Mustang
Hi guys so about the well known issue of 2.2, has ED fixed the problem of massive fps drop with MSAA on/deferred shading on? No it's the same as 2.2 was, I turn MSAA off and use Reshade's SMAA.fx.

Mustang
Sure you can download the latest version from here https://reshade.me/ Too bad, that is not an option for the VR users... Yeah I guess it's because Reshade uses a dxgi.dll hook in order to function, something that VR devices cannot work with.
dburne
Well I was able to get "acceptable" VR Performance in Normandy with 2x MSAA, hopefully that will still be the case with 2.5. aaron886
I had read somewhere on this forum that it may be due to the fact that ED has to bake their own MSAA implementation into their engine because of the deferred rendering. The implication being that ED's implementation is slow but could be made faster. Anyone know if that's true? Maybe they could implement one of FXAA/SMAA/MLAA in post to reduce render times? No MSAA in VR is not very pretty. Why use MSAA in VR? Go to the VR tab and set pixel resolution (over sampling) to 1.3 to 1.5. This will have a similar effect to MSAA. Note: Your 2D screenshots will be affected from the lack of MSAA. i7-7700K@4.8GHz, 16Gb-3200, GTX-1080Ti-Strix-11Gb, Maximus IX Hero, Oculus Rift, Thrustmaster Warthog+F/A-18C, Logitech G940 Pedals. Note: Your 2D screenshots will be affected from the lack of MSAA. I still have heavy flickering without MSAA in VR, even if I set pixel density to 2.0. Selecting MSAA 2X is helping, but still not very satisfying and performance is suffering. Getting MSAA to 4X would be great, but nearly impossible for my rig. We need some kind of AA for VR! wedge_one
You can also use your GPU FXAA through the Control Panel instead of using ReShade. I'm not sure if it's less expensive than ReShade, but it's a lot less than MSAA. ¬ wedge Wishlist: DCS: F-16C wedgeDCS - Modern Custom CSS themes for the Forum

katdog 5.0
In VR, I tried Deferred Shading with a 1.0 Pixel Density , 2xSMAA, 2xAF. with pleasing results --solid 90fps being the key for me. Perhaps a low baseline for 90fps with my setup . Deferred shading is a real killer. but The eye candy is absolutely stunning Also had DefShading with 1.5 PD in 2.2 0xsmaa and 0x/2x AF running nicely 90fps Nellis either that or HDR with 16x AF 1.5 PD 90fps and say good bye to sunsets and shadows and colors and epicness i7-6700k @ 4.69Ghz / 1080GTX +10% / MSI z270 Gaming M7 / Oculus CV1 VR / 16GB DDR4 2850Hz / Corsair H100i v2 / CH Products
