Purchasing the Persian Gulf Map for MP, who's buying it?

Just wondering, most people make references to various fixedwing when talking about this map, but no words about how enjoyable/boring it will be for us rotorheads. Have both NTTR and Normandy and somewhat regret both purchases, looking good and all but to boring and flat in the long run and no SP content. Seldom used.

Are there any rotorheads (i.e. mainly fly helicopter overall, seldom fixedwings) among the beta testers? Any testimonials for us low and slow guys?

(flying sitesing in Dubai doesn't count)

How would it be boring for Rotorheads? There are tons of mountains and numerous cities to fly in.

A lot of water and a lot of flat desert. Cities and towns doesn't make up for it by itself. Not seen much mountains in given screenshots and teasers. Not to talk about forests...for natural reasons.

But that's why I'm asking for someone with a dedicated helicopter interest that have had the chance to try it out and can share his/her feelings about it.

I've seen a ton of mountains in the previews. There are a lot on the Eastern edge at Oman. There are a lot more mountains on the Iran side of the map.

Helo Ops will be more practical with CLTD as you cannot just drive ground vehicles across the Strait. While the ocean doesn't provide any cover or concealment, island hoping will be more practical.

and no SP content.

You gotta make some. Before we get a proper campaign generator with true randomness baked in, that's what we've got to do. Done a lot of that myself (+ coops) and trust me, it works.

Indeed, but I mentioned it more as one of a couple of reasons why I personally find those maps boring. And no one of the helicopter development teams (or other developers for that matter) seems to bother about them either if looking at the SP content they provide with their modules, only Caucus.

That's what I'm curious about, how will this map be treated differently? Is it interesting enough for exiting helicopter operations for the developers to provide some content?

Yes I can create them myself. But I'm really not professional enough with the ME nor find it intriguing to pretend to be surprised by small arms fire when pasing over a hill, when it is I who put them there.

But to be honest I haven't looked much for community provided missions/campaigns for NTTR and Normandy.

I'm a simple man, ED says "Give us money", I give it.

@Holton

Yep, that's the solution for you, community missions. Even better is that they're free, as opposed to a $10-20 campaign. Who needs quality voice acting? I'm perfectly ok with the Comic Book Guy wheezing into a microphone in a faux-Russian accent.

I wont be prepurchasing anything until ED starts delivering that which I have prepurchased already.

Your choice. But I can’t help wondering where else you will find anything that comes close to DCS World. It’s always been an evolutionary process given the small customer base, and huge complexity of the modelling.

This is purely an observation with a question...

At the time of this post lots of Caucasus servers with the top 5 active servers having about 134 players on

Nevada Test range Map, Top 5 active servers with only 9 players between on all 5 with 4 players been the most active on one server.

I know a lot of work goes into the maps, but when 80% of my time is played on MP servers and I bought the Nevada map no one seems to use, I'm trying to justifly if its worth the expense for the Persian Gulf map.

I see Mags show the Persian Map of during the F-18 Videos, looks nice and all but do you players intend to purchase ? or will stick with Caucasus ?

I waited that Normandy was out before I considered what map to buy. And the reason I bought a NTTR was an idea to use it just for that, a training for avionic operations. Later I purchased the Normandy, mainly because the tree collision system and because it looks different. It is different, but what I would say as main problem with it is the pattern of the tree/field combination that is fairly obvious.

I have basically flown the NTTR just around the main airport. Never have flown around or in Las Vegas. So not so much use. As the main thing really was just to have a easy target shooting when wanted.

I don't personally see much in NTTR. As to me it was just too late delivered as its reason really was to come with the A-10C years back as then it would had the great purpose. Sure the missions for Red Flag etc sounds interesting, but I just don't know why they don't interest such a way.

Normandy in other hand is nice to fly, looks very nice by the towns, rivers etc. But I take caucasus anyday. What comes to the new Gulf Map, it is actually far more interesting than either previous maps. Because its shape. How you can make two fleets to collide etc.

But more I fly the 2.5, more I am sad that so much still needs to be waited to get a semi-realistic ground units and AI. And to get something interesting done, one would need to really make all the missions by themselves. And that requires actually dozens of hours spent in editor to get even fraction of the realism for ground units that they should have by the ED part, so the mission designer main task would actually decide the location, plan the sorties, make voice overs (or actually just type those on boxes and get automatic voice generation) etc. And it all should be more like a drawing on map than placing units and triggers etc.

And more today I am expecting to get a new updated map that has lots of random terrain foliage, from rocks to pushes to small trees and long grass etc. So that when you are flying below 1000m you actually can see the terrain to be "living".

So the reason to buy the maps is to get other mission designers to make some more interesting missions for them. And all that for offline use, instead online. As in online most players are there just to frak around, not to fly realistically.

I use mostly all the maps in a multiple player content I hard ever do any off line flying which is why my Log book looks anemic.
