Hi all,

I have a question, on the sim i can't have smooth texture without massive FPS drops.

My configuration is :

Intel i7 8700k

16 GB RAM

Asus 1080 GTX TI

SSD KINGSTON 125 GB

Asus Strix Z370 F gaming

If I look to my plane on external view I always have "cut edge" on the boy of the plane, and I have the same effect on the scenery.

When I look all the vidéo in youtube etc i never see something like this, and I think my pc can do better without a huge loss of FPS.

Here a screen shot of the edge of the body that clearly appear not smooth p3bi.png

Can some one have an idea for the setup?

Posting a screenshot of your graphic settings will help.

If you cannot have higher MSAA that's it, it's 'normal'

I run a Asus 1080 with lowered AA because I run 4 screen on it.

You're screenshot doesn't look too bad for your setup (2x MSAA, why 1.5 SSAA that eats fps?)

Up your MSAA, no SSAA, or use Nvidia Inspector special Nvidia AA modes ('Override').

In most YT DCS you will find jagged edges, the 'squadron' guys who need high fps,

the guys on youtube that have 'hollywood' screens for demonstrations have crazy PC's and graphic cards (just a tad above yours truthfully),

or/and, do post-processing of saved streaming.

I've noticed that on my 1070 SSAA causes jaggies as well, while old MSAA reduces them a lot, so If you really want to use any of in-game AA methods (none of which are great anyway as both kill framerate), I would drop the former completely and increase the latter to 4x.

Try these settings for the Nvidia Settings.

NO SSAA, it's only new and needs tweaking.

Happened to other people, and me, delete or rename your present profile in the saved games directory, which will also rebuild your shaders cache, and start over?

Perhaps start with disabling shaders cach, deferred shades, and reboot and restart en re-enable and reboot and restart?

This might also even be a registry foul, uninstall NVidia drivers and re-install with ‘fresh installation’ setting, which might not even work either, but hé, nothing more one can do.

You can also try to turn off msaa and just enable 1.5x ssaa helped a bit with my frames and looked a tad better on my rig.

lol, just run off all your in game AAs and enable them from the nVidia control panel. I've heard that 4xMSAA + FXAA works best.

delete the "fxo" and "metashaders2" folder in your saved games folder, that's to get a clean start.

MSAA and SSAA do NOT like to run be used together, it's either or.

I either use MSAA-4x or SSAA-1.5x. IMHO SSAA-1.5x is by far superior in quality and performance

to MSAA-4x. Since you have the rig to run that setting, try it.

More than a few guys with similar capable rigs have stated the same finding, tho it is also very personal "what looks better".

Anyone works, just NOT together.

I fly with WQHD an all settings maxed out but Lense and Bocage thing, they are for video editing only afaik. I get no les than 50ish fps and above 100fps max. Depends on scene, height, time of day and airframe.

SSAO made the whole scene just "look" better and less edges and less glimmer with Extreme viewing distance.

anyway, it's a matter of taste for half of the decision

So many interesting variations that work for different people and all very helpful.

My setup is:

Monitor 1080p

Nvidia Control Panel: I run DSR x 2

Vsync set for fast in NCP - not in game.

Ingame: MSAA 4, AF 16

Note: no lens flare as that is a camera optic, not what the human eye sees. No Depth of field.

Best I can get for now. Subject to change of course. :)

I bought a NEW Ryzen 5, 1050ti with 4mb, 16 gb ram on pc, SSD drive instal, win 10, and I have everything off in background just to run dcs.

ansiotrophic ingame only at 4x and all AA off in dcs but on in Nvidia panel as suggested.

Civ traffic off, shadows on low, deffered on, shading default, view range to high, trees 80% and everything else basically off.

All jets I get about 47 to 72 fps average depending on screen action, but with minor stutters, but f18 runs about 20 fps less and greatly increases micro stutters... Stutters stutters stutters..

This is a good system, I am so sick to freaking death of spending more time tweaking to get smooth fps than actually playing the game. 17 years of spending more time tweaking than playing. This PC runs EVERYTING else flat out maxed settings, but no, not DCS..

What does it take to be able to play DCS smoothly and looking at least close to cool any other modern game?

I ask almost pleading. Is there a magic button, something to disable or enable?

Surely it is possible for them to optimize or cut a deal with ReShademe or something. What about Vulcan, that was mentioned and then never brought up again that I can find.

Is there any hope friends, please thrill me with something here,

Thank you.

Thank you majapahit,

Slazi, my 1050 ti may not be cutting edge, but runs everything else from Arma 3, Prepar 3d to GTA5, and flat-out beautiful and smooth. The problem is the newest DCS engine needs what all other engines seem to have standard, optimization, working shaders--. I run Prepar 3d v 4, and it is dropdead beautiful with its advanced cockpits, massive amounts of trees and traffic.... Why not DCS after nearly 2 decades? Love DCS, but its not balanced and not a good running system.

So, has anyone heard any more news or info on Devs actually optimizing, fixing the memory leaks, trying Vulcan, replacing the defunct shaders, broken AA or anything else that might lead one to hoping they don't need to disable everything, have access to Nasa's Kray super PC or spend as much on a graphics card as they do on a new PC just to run DCS like you see in the 'promoted' videos?

I'm really invested here owning many of the aircraft already and having saved over a year for this new Ryzen 5. Searching through forums I see nothing bit people like me suffering the stutters and all their many attempts to remedy, but ZERO-zero-zero from devs on offering any hope the next decade won't be as fruitless as the last nearly two decades have been.

Is there any good news, please brighten my month someone☺?

What I do is install "Nvidia Inspector" here f.i.

http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvidia-inspector-download.html

part of it is “Nvidia Profile Inspector” (direct in install dir or menu button)

that gets you to the special NVIDIA game settings

see my setup screen

notice:

3. anti alias

- .. ‘overide’

- .. ‘************* SUPERVCAA_64X_8v8

(or use less resources ‘ **** SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12, these are NVIDIA proprietary AA)

- MultiSamp ‘off’

- Supersamp ‘off’

- FXAA ’ON’ ( <<<<<<<<<)

4. TexFiltering

- ‘user’

all optimizations ‘off’ (can turn on, little recourses, less pretty)

- ‘8x’ (or 4x or 16x)

- LOD BIAS ‘clamp’ (pretty) (or ‘allow’ shaky, faster’

Basic idea:

- 'override in game settings'

- use NVIDIA proprietary AA **SUPERVCAA_**

- Sampling OFF

- FXAA ON

Anti-aliasing

Actually, your screen shot looks very nice to me and I'd be happy with that appearance. Aliasing is a function of the digital world we live in. It can never be totally eliminated and, as others have advised, solutions to reduce it will always hit your frame rate.

Your PC looks capable but you can always spend more money on upgrades. I'd say that with the processor and GPU you are using you are getting into the area of diminishing returns. You might be able to spend your way to something approaching a 15% improvement in fps while reducing aliasing but, honestly, would you see the difference? I'd bet not.

Notice I have an older CPU OC'd to 4.4 GHz, a GPU similar to yours and have absolutely no frame rate problems. Aliasing is not visible when actually flying but you will always see a bit with a static screen shot.

So, my solution is:

1 - Try some of the things other posters have suggested. The Youtube video is very good.

2 - Once you have found the best compromise between fps and appearance (it will always be a compromise), adjust your expectations.

Best wishes,

JH.

I thank you men for your kind feedback. It is really appreciated and I will be implementing the Nvidia Inspector & settings when I have a break over the weekend.

By way of trying to stay on the cutting edge of things, have I missed any news on further optimization or Vulcan implementation or upcoming memory leak patches etc?

I am not sure if I am looking in the wrong places for DCS posting about improving the sim or if there is just zero good news currently with the recent F18 release still being fresh?

Thank you friends. You have given me new tweaks to try☺
