Los Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Cage the Hud during Cat 1 recovery to keep the HUD symbology centered in the display
key_stroked Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 One example is the final turn to enter the groove for the carrier. You don't want the VVI and E bracket to be off hud. You need to see both to maintain proper AoA and speed.
uhntissbaby111 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 I have mine uncaged always until I’m doing an approach. I’ll cage it in the pattern to make it easier to see my descent rate and then I’ll uncage it again on final to see my true trajectory. You could also cage it during cruise with a strong crosswind so that the VV is in the middle of the HUD
DocSigma Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 In order to gauge your actual travel vector. Crosswinds and such will cause your aircraft to incrementally slip along it's heading path. For example, your on approach for landing with a very strong cross wind. Your hud is caged, and you put you fpm on the runway. the caged hud is telling you your traveling towards the runway, when in actuality you're probably headed right or left depending on wind direction. You need to see both to maintain proper AoA and speed. You can technically do it with the HUD totally off. That's what the AoA indexer is for.
QuiGon Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 And HOW to CAGE?!! By using the cage/uncage button on the HOTAS. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Lucky Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 By using the cage/uncage button on the HOTAS. Or the “c” key on the keyboard. Alphamale Posted June 13, 2018 Author Posted June 13, 2018 I just wanted to make sure that I am distinguishing between the cage/uncage for the HUD versus Cage/Uncage for the Sidewinders...they are different aren't they (button-wise)?
probad Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 no its the same button, they do different things depending on the current mode

Landing on carrier in very strong crosswind means the captain is not wake to turn the ship in to the wind. Would be nice to have these meta-logics in the AI by default without any scripting, so the captain would steer the ship in to the wind when the recovery is to come. When the ship needs to turn away to gain distance etc, then pilots are going to spend time waiting. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Akula Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 no its the same button, they do different things depending on the current mode So does this mean that: Wheels up pressing "C" will cage/uncage your weapons. Wheels down pressing "C" will cage/uncage HUD. Can someone clarify? Akula Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 OK, so just to go off tangent for a bit. What Keyboard command cages/uncages any desired weapon? Yes I know, it should be bound to your HOTAS but let's assume it's not and you need to know which key to press.
