Hog_No32 Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 A great feature for DCS mission building would be the possibility to have barrage AAA fire. By barrage I mean some kind of unguided, random AAA fire that could be activated by a trigger. Basically to remodel a sky that looks similar to the famous CNN footage of Baghdad in the first nights of the 1991 gulf war. Something that scares the sh*t out of you when you have to fly into it (which is what I recall some British Tornado pilots told after their first sorties...) :)
Donut Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 +1,000,000 to this. I cannot support this idea enough! AAA fire, like we have all seen in the famous footage over Baghdad would add so much immersion and atmosphere to a night mission. I really want this to be a priority for ED to add! i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"
Eagle7907 Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Yes! I was just looking into how to do this. I guess there isn’t. This command should be available for AAA units. Spudknocker Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 I agree with this sentiment and its something that all the mission makers I know would love to have in DCS! twistking Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 +1 (good idea!) also some more (heavy) AAA units would be needed! ( https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=224014 ) My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original
Sandman1330 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 I wonder if you could trick the ME into doing this... Could you create an orbiting low/slow target for the AAA that is invisible to the player, but visible to the enemy, and invincible. Something like a UAV. It, or even better a few of them, could orbit above the enemy AAA and draw their fire, but without being destroyed. The only thing about that I'm not sure how to do is make it invisible to the player but visible to the enemy... Eagle7907 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Oh man that's getting really deep. It would be much more simple just to code a behavior for AAA firing randomly. That way the triggers for it can be a simple start/stop condition. AAA creates the barrage fire when they can't find you, but when they do their fire can be focused. Jarlerus Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 I would actually go and ask for some better, more realistic AAA behaviour. No radar guidance? Barrage/point fire should be the default. (There's multiple threads in this subforum asking for it :P ) I guess triggered, or setting options would be OK though I'd prefer they made the AI better. Silvern Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Having flak artillery in DCS would be a good start. ( WW2 asset pack doesn't count)
BaD CrC Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 +10^9 I am asking this feature for years. Tracers in the sky everywhere, Gulf war I style! I guess that WWII pilots in DCS would also like to see some flak above cities too. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
Eagle7907 Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 (edited) AAA barrage fire I thought flak was in the works? See roadmap thread. Could’ve sworn I saw that in there!? Edit Ah, it MAY be? It says Flak Effects was released. Silvern Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 I thought flak was in the works? See roadmap thread. Could’ve sworn I saw that in there!? Edit Ah, it MAY be? It says Flak Effects was released. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Yes, but it is locked behind a 30$ paywall - useless for most communities. Modern DCS also needs flak for Syria and Persian Gulf maps. KS-19 is quite common there.
Murey2 Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Yes I fully agree we really need that in the game, But it's going to depend on the map theme e.g. it's old tactic so only in Normandy.
Jarlerus Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 ...it's old tactic... Used up into the 70's and 80's. So not so "old" as you'd think. Jarl at YouTube DCS Service Span and Wishlist Spreadsheet Forum post for discussion of above spreadsheet Retro Electro Playlist on Spotify

We have "Fire at Point"... wonder if we could force it that way. Gonna take a crack at it. Too cool if it works...
Eagle7907 Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 AAA barrage fire I tried “fire at point” but that didn’t seem to make the AAA fire at all. Don’t know about scripting. Isn’t my cup of tea. Stonehouse Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 You could always resurrect my old flak script but the explosions are not correct (never were) compared to the new flak bursts. I think what is needed is the aerial equivalent of the new artillery effect you can trigger in a zone. No units required and you would get the effect you want.
VZ_342 Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Something like this? That’d be awesome! Somebody figured it out...
Jarlerus Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 If one could make some aircraft invisible to the players, but visible to the enemy AAA, and then make the AAA only shoot at those targets, as they circle above - that would produce a similar effect. ...although this is a shit solution xD Better, IMO, to fix/improve the AI. :P Jarl at YouTube DCS Service Span and Wishlist Spreadsheet Forum post for discussion of above spreadsheet Retro Electro Playlist on Spotify
Guille H. Mono Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Have you tried this Mod? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=146210 It adds Zpu-1,2 and 4 (14,5mm) and zsu-57-2 (57mm). Zpu is not as devastating as the 23mm, specially in Shilka and still provides a good visual effect. The ZSU-57 is my favourite, big slow tracers that explodes relatively close to your aircraft. I would love to see them shooting randomly or covering assigend sectors. The problem when I edit my missions is that any kind of AAA unit without radar guidance are blind and they don't shoot at all at night or in adverse weather. Even with a CP Sborka commanding the group.
