It is, just like the Sukhois, the auto pilot is only designed for a certain speed range. It’s gain isn’t meant to handle all speeds, just like a quadcopter oscillates with too strong of motors

Don’t confuse autopilot with recovery emergency. Just before you hit H, try to get the vertical speed close to zero and the same with roll the most horizontal possible. Also both parameters should be stable at the moment of hit H (not increasing or decreasing) So will rock

How do I switch off the Autopilot? I press H and an unable to get control back. there is a light on the right side that shows TRIMMER RP (in cyrillic)

The autopilot works by adjusting the trim. When you cancel the autopilot, you're "in control", just the plane is trimmed weird depending on what you were doing e.g. if you cancel autopilot in a turn. If you want it back 100%, you also have to reset the trim.

ok that is LShift-A plus whatever I used for reset trim (I have it on Ctrl + some joystick button). Will try asap, thanks!

P.S. there are some lights on the bottom left of the cockpit that light up when autopilot is on

Each one is a different autopilot function, but I don't know off the top of my head which is which. One that's on all the time is the pitch damper, you can turn this off as well but it requires holding "reset autopilot" for 3 seconds. One I think is just a generic "AP is on", then additional lights for what type e.g. roll hold, altitude hold etc.

I fly the MIG with MS Sidewinder, but also it goes absoute crazy when i try Altitude Holde..

I fly sidewinder. Alt hold can be tricky, I recommend finding a sweet spot I need speed where the gains work without causing oscillations. Easy to do even without AP since sidewinders can’t use curves or dead zones. In addition to bring in the right speed range I get best results when activating alt hold when I move already level and holding alt. Hope this helps. I really don’t want to have to save up for a brunner stick:’(

I've just gotten the Mig-29 module myself the last week and have been reading up, testing how the autopilot works, still confused a bit. Been reading through this thread and was wondering if anyone knows of a video or tutorial on how to use this aircraft feature?

Cap did a short autopilot tutorial for Su-27, Su-33, Mig-29 & Su-25 recently.

Note: IIRC, when I flew the Su-25T regularly - I used Altitude, Attitude, Autopilot OFF and Trim reset keybinds but kept away from the other modes.

Edit:

I found DevRim's English Cockpit particularly useful for checking which autopilot mod I was in when starting out, so you may want to try that.

So if I'm just in straight and level flight, and set the autopilot to altitude hold, the plane holds altitude, but it just shimmies on the ailerons ever so slightly, back and forth, same thing when I use attitude hold.

That happens if your speed is too fast around 1k kmh. Try lowering your speed around 600 - 800 kmh if my memory serves me well CMIW.

Just tried it on instant mission dogfight vs F-16 PG map. It was fine no wonky whatsoever at 800 kph.

As of 2.8.4.39313, this is still a problem. It happens with all variants at all speed on all Autopilot modes. Can be instantly reproduced.

What exactly is still a problem that can be easily reproduced? Do you mean the aileron flutter? Because the AP modes themselves work fine for me. Attitude Hold and Baro Altimeter Hold are steady and Ground Collision Avoidance and Level Up to Horizon work, too. Path Following and Reapproach were never implemented.

Yes, the aileron wiggle waggle. All it takes to reproduce it is spawn on the mig and press H. Not only it makes unbearable to use at speeds above 650kmh, it also mess up your trim, requiring you to always reset it and adjust againg after disengaging the AP.
