  1. 1. How much RAM do you have?

I am starting this poll, because many players complain about RAM Problems.

To get an idea of the amount of system RAM the average user has, please select your quantity.

If the number doesn't fit to what you have installed, select what is the closest.

If you use DCS on more than one rig and these systems have a different amout of RAM, multiple choices are possible.

16Gb system, and 8Gb on the graphics card - that one gets filled up quick too, in missions.

My pagefile usually contains around 18-20Gb of data, during a DCS session.

- Jack of many DCS modules, master of none.

- Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS.

I bought a built system and it came with 32g. I'm not sure I would have picked that if I had a choice. I'm glad I have it now.

Did a major system overhaul Christmas 2017 and with that put in a 2 x 16GB (32GB total) 3200Mhz kit of Corsair RAM. Glad I did that instead of a 2 x 8GB (16GB total) kit. Don't expect I will need to upgrade to 64GB total but if I do I still have two spare slots for that.

Just noticed that I need to upgrade my sig with new rig details from my Christmas 2017 build. Still showing my ancient X58 platform based rig which my son now has.

dont mind using pagefile off of my SSD's. I had pagefile running off my old vertex 3 SATA drive for 7 years. In that period most people would have upgraded twice anyway.

SSD's are fast enough to use pagefile seamlessly. My old puters limiting factor was infact the CPU a 2500K. It was getting maxed out in all its paltry 4 threads.

Interesting poll, particularly the stats so far, i.e. that circa 3% of the people who've responded to the poll have less than 16GB.

Worth mentioning a few things though:

- Clearly this is only representative for those who've completed. For the other however many thousand of players (e.g. those who don't speak English and aren't on this section of the board), the stats may be completely different

- It's quite possible that ED from log files actually have a better picture of the RAM in use by players

- We need to be careful not to make dangerous assumptions based upon this limited set of polled people, e.g. to try to encourage ED to focus the design on people with 16GB or more

7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

agreed.

if you have any kind of statistical or market research training, you know these polls do not provide usable data.

the sample is both biased and way too small.

16 GB system, 8 GB on the graphics card (1070).

What I don't understand is, while DCS commonly uses 7 GB or more on the card, it only usually uses 8 to maybe 10 GB of the system memory--yet, if I don't have a Windows pagefile, the sim crashes.

Any ideas?

do you think someone will create an operating system that doesn’t use a page-file?

With drives getting faster and faster I wouldn't spare the spare tyre :D

Take that test with a grain of salt. It's rendering mostly grass an trees. Try Nellis downtown.

As an observation those results are indicative to what I get in my tests although I fly mostly Gaz low and fast within Las Vegas on NTTR* map and Caucasus map in built up areas in VR so DCS has many objects, buildings etc to manipulate and render.

I think it's fair to say DCS's memory management has really improved over early 2.5.x releases and even looking at it now it's foot print seems to sit below 10GB which with windows etc is kinda pushing 16GB systems. I have run with and with out pagefile and for me there really isn't much difference so I just let Windows do it's thing.

I also think maybe DCS could be more adaptive to systems with more RAM and VRAM for example if I jump onto a MP server I get to use pretty much 10.something GB of VRAM wheres DCS only uses about 6GB in single player.

Win10Pro, 64GB DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB i75930@4.7Ghz.

* Another observation, I find the NTTR map to be by far the best performance over the other maps.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.
