Shouldn't it be more appropriate to make these requests when the products are (almost) feature complete?

Seriously.... the Hornet has no LTWS, no ECM, no TPOD, ..., the COMMS and ATC systems are still in diapers, they just started coding the DC.... and you are asking for a female pilot on a 6 page thread?

Yes, that's a reasonable argument. My previous comment was referring to those that came up with bullshit arguments like "we should implement gays/lesbians/... as well" or came up with SJW accusations, just because someone would like to see female pilots in DCS.

I put the precise amount of effort in that the OP did, which is to say, none. Had he/she formed and shared a single thought around why they would like female pilots in DCS and in what form that should take I might have been as generous as some of the other posters here to share my own thoughts on the subject.

Strange how you can draw an arbitrary line between gender and sexual preference - why is one reasonable and the other "bullshit"? If the argument is "equality!" then every inter-sectional group should be represented and, of course, if anyone disagrees they are a bigot.

It's not the inclusion of females anywhere in the sim that is ever a problem. Heaven knows, we need more ATC voices. The problem with this suggestion that generates the mocking is that it's just having no impact on many people's vision of DCS because it's not impacting anything visually from where you fly a plane. If we COULD actually identify facial features in formation, don't you think implementing hand signals would be a far more useful step, or adjusting the audio files to get a new flight with a female voice? Or what about more localisation? Whilst we are at this inclusivity, both women AND men in other countries bar the US and Russia are being excluded from the vocals. And the thing that gets a good deal of people is that not only can't you see your face, why don't they fix half the mirrors in the cockpits? And then, if it's not the final straw, I don't know what it is, most people drive without pilot bodies shown at all, so it becomes a pointless waste of time in comparison to the many many things a modeller and texture artist could do .... like

"Fixing the 1980's graphics on the vast amount of low quality models of airplanes?"

Abso-super-uber-mega-lutely this!

Not only that, some of the ground vehicles, some ships and even some weapons.

Heck whilst they're at it, how about mix up the faces of most infantry units? So they're not just all clones of each other.

Surely if any 3D/texture work is needed it's this

(Okay the infantry units thing isn't that bad of a deal - the new ones look great).

Wow, just wow...

I'm amazed at how such an innocuous request can trigger so many people.

The OP has asked for the possibility of adding female pilots. No specifics (whether it's a body, face or just a voice).

No one has asked for bicurious, gay or transgender representation in DCS. No one has called for forced gender parity. No one has called for enforcing an SJW political agenda. No one is forcing anyone to get "woke".

Are you people actually afraid DCS will be infiltrated by an SJW agenda??? Where does this fear come from (rhetorical question, I'm aware of the current climate in some circles)? Why these allergic reactions?

Let's bring this back to reality:

  • Females make up 50% of the human population
  • Over 20% of US Air Force personell are female (over 65,000 individuals)
  • The US Air Force has 749 female pilots; 327 navigators; 229 air battle managers
  • Female pilots exist
  • Everyone is free to enjoy DCS

While female pilots make up a small percentage of combat pilots, they are real and their inclusion would be realistic. The addition of female pilots would enrich DCS, not ruin, endanger or make it "politically correct". Whether or not it's worth the the effort and the extent of implementation is of course debatable.

1 in 5 US Air Force personell is female. This is a far larger number, then the number of female pilots. We could realistically expect to be hearing female voices very often. I hope that we will soon hear the inclusion of female voices.

Because sexual preference has no representation in DCS (it's not a dating sim or something like that). Gender on the other hand has a visual representation (albeit a small one), most obviously with helicopter pilots and ejected pilots.

You are partially right and wrong same time.

20-30 years ago and earlier there were only two genders. Male and female. And everyone was assigned to be one of these two. Today you can say you feel that you are a horse so you are horse gender - in big simplicity.

Everyone who disagrees or is against is being called homophobe. He must accept deviations like that, otherwise he can be banned or stoned because he hurt feelings of the a man who think he is a horse.

We live in really weird times, where it is forbidden to say that one ethnic group is majority in prisons because then you are racist. Even if you post real data regarding this matter.

If you are against gender parities in company, where there has to be at least 1 woman as chairman then you are idiot, crazy man ect.

In the same time when those people scream at you "idiot", "homophobe", "racist" they can't give a thought that not everything must be as they wish and maybe they're wrong.

Not every must fit everywhere, pilots are in 99% men. Should be there women in DCS? I don't care as long as it doesn't touches nowadays stupidity that women have to prove that they are better than man. In some they are better, in some they are completely useless and that is a fact.:)

It's just a mental sickness in the western world, thankfully there are still places devoid of the madness, but for how long though I don't know.

This is precisely the point that has sparked the backlash in this thread. Im going to take a step back now and say that if the OP had done all those things that DowntownSIX has so articulately stated, then perhaps the OP would not have attracted the reactions they have provoked. And Maybe even got better support.

DCS isnt about social engineering or gender politics.

I was playing devils advocate a bit and I agree with you.

The pilot model doesn't matter to me but I understand it might to others. What I would like is more variation in player, ATC, AWACS, flight and JTAC in general - more male and female voices please.

For clarity, I have absolutely no problem with woman in DCS, whether that be models or audio, but when people ask for features in the name of diversity instead of in the name of "this would make the game better" people (me) can't possibly take the suggestion seriously.

I hope that's an eye opener for the people who cried bigot at anyone who disagreed with the OP.

And just to add, there are 749 female pilots in the USAF, and 32 Ka-50s in the VVS, so the idea that female pilots are "too rare" becomes really absurd in comparison. Especially when you consider that one of the most well-known A-10 pilots (Kim Campbell) is a woman. I'd be genuinely curious how many of the insecure little boys in this thread can land an A-10 in manual reversion mode with half the horizontal stabilizer shot off like she did.

Also, this thread has convinced me that I will never, ever, ever fly multiplayer in DCS. Too many children.

Since you are one of the few who has responded in a serious manner, and since you have posted something constructive, perhaps I can help you with something similarly eye-opening:

For many of us, there is not a discernable difference between "this will make DCS more diverse" and "this would make the game better". For many of us, adding woman to DCS is not "political", and ironically it is the people who complain about such requests who are the ones bringing up politics rather than responding to the suggestions offered.

Diversity is not political. It is a simple matter of recognizing that the game is intentionally limiting itself by limiting how it portrays the world by omitting a significant portion of the population. A lack of women makes the game exceptionally unrealistic, and some people do not seem to grasp this because they view the lack of women as being a completely natural state of existence.

By comparison, I'm about to head off to work as I am writing this. At my super-serious government agency, my chain of command is me (male) -> supervisor (female) -> department head (male) -> deputy director (female) -> agency director (female) -> cabinet secretary (male) -> governor (male). Given the money and lives at stake ($12 billion and 1.2 million people's healthcare), I can assure you that every one of those people were chosen for being the best available, regardless of gender.

My point is simply that many of us find it absolutely jarring to see an all-male environment, when we work in a much more diverse environment every day. Rather than being some sort of "natural" state, it makes the game seem far more unrealistic.

including female models is a start but we can go further. i propose we add pilot models featuring the following sexual orientations into the game, possibly as an "Inclusiveness" DLC module:

gay

lesbian

bisexual

queer

lgbtq

asexual

aromantic

homosexual

out

closeted

androsexual

bicurious

demiromantic

demisexual

gynesexual

polyamorous

skoliosexual

anything less would be discriminatory in my opinion. it is the current year after all

Yes all 4 of you must be very jarred. How little I care. If gender is what's limiting the realism in DCS for you then perhaps you're playing the wrong game... For the rest of us we care about EW simulation, missile guidance algorithms, flight models, systems simulation and so on and so forth.
