Hi LC34

my specs are very close, runs like a dream!

Neal

Yeah, it seems to run decent here too. Steady 40 fps so I guess I can tinker around with the graphics etc and see what I can get out of it.

Got to play around for about a half hour with it yesterday after installing it. Wow! I was expecting it to be cool, but I sat in the Tomcat and just looked around for a bit before even starting the engines. Flying was really cool. Anyone on the fence about it like I was, give it a shot. I don't think you will regret it.

Hi, I got my Rift S today and tried DCS.

However FPS is very low especially in Persian Gulf, I cant see/detect object clearly if they are away more than 0.5 - 1 mile. And I cant read some DDI texts on Hornet. Are these normal for my system?

Better GPU would help.

1080 Ti, or 20x series.

I'm afraid your GPU is on the low side.

I didn't tried Gulf Map in VR yet.

But I have 7700K, 32Go RAM, GTX 1080 Ti and I get solid 40fps and I can push details.

SS x1.5 in DebugTool, MSAA x2.

I can identify planes on parking from 10 000 ft.

M-2000C in blue sky is a dot between 6 to 7 Nm.

Hi jojo,

Interesting, I have almost the same setup except for just a 1080 card.

I never thought of using the SS x 1.5 in the DebugTool.

Would you mind telling me what you have ingame for: AF, SSAA, PD?

This would help me a great deal getting my head around VR settings.

Thanks so much,

AF: x8

MSAA: x2

No SSAA

PD: 1.0

Textures High

Visibility High.

So far steady 40fps, but I didn't do "stress test" mission yet.

I tried up to x2 in DebugTool, but I didn't notice any meaningful improvement over x1.5

I also tried x2 in debugtool without MSAA because someone pretended it lowers visual detection range by 1Nm.

But actually to my eyes it made visual detection and identification worse because it makes distant objects to sparkle.

But when I say 6 to 7 Nm, this is inside HUD target box, so I know where to look.

Thanks jojo,

I'll have a try with your settings and see what happens. I have my lens inserts coming from Poland and when I get them it will help in sorting out the settings with the system I've got.

Thanks for your feedback.

Just wondering: is there really any difference, in visual quality and/or performance between setting PD 1.5 in game and SS 1.5 in debug tool?

Allegedly DebugTool is less greedy on performance side.

I would have to fact check.

I've just ordered mine, can't wait!

Have had the money sitting there for ages but was waiting for the white flashes to be resolved.

Also had a personal task/goal I've been putting of doing for years so I forced myself to get that acheived - then reward myself with a new headset.

Just ordered a Rift S. It's 154 pages long threat and I would like to ask kindly that what is the optimum settings for it to have the best visual quality?

My system: i9-9900K and RTX2080.

And one more question, what program do you use to see the fps in DCS?

Hi,

I am thinking about getting into VR. Running a 1080ti and a 6700k @4.6GHz. Anyone know if it is possible to run the Rift s with a half descent performane on this hardware?

Thx

I have a 1070 and a crap cpu by today's standards and It runs just fine on my system. I have the settings cranked up quite high too. No stuttering at all.

You will be fine with a rig like that.

I got my Rift S a few days ago and its such a cool experience :) I will never go back to flat screen.

But the graphics isn´t that great, especially the landscape. Do you have any tips on settings for my 1070 card? I will save some money and get a 2080.

But in the meantime, what settings should I go for, and what should I avoid?

I had to turn MSAA off, and running 8x AA from the Nvidia program, but i´m not sure it makes any difference.

I think I have found a good setup for my 1070 now, the fps is good and I have a decent view of the terrain and targets. The only thing bothering me is focus on the HUD, I have to focus my eyes so I dont see dubble, It´s a little painful for my eyes.

About the only thing in Nvidia control panel that will work with VR headset, is power management set to " Prefer Maximum Performance".

Rest of settings you should set in game.

That same problem of the hud I had in my Oculus Rift, to solve it adjust the value of the IPD of the VR options of the DCS. This option really does NOT vary IPD, it is more the scale of the world. By default it has an excessively high value, so the size is too small, reducing it will help, recommended between 53 and 40, according to your preferences

By default it’s 64, and it’s perfectly fine for me.

I think it depends on people, but yes, if one see double HUD it’s probably the setting to adjust :smilewink:

No my eyesight is fine. The problem is more like if you hold a finger in front of your nose and focus your eyes on that, you get cross eyed and its not very comfortable.

Hmm, thank´s i will try that, and see if I need a higher or lower setting. I measured my pupils 65mm center to center.

I increased the IPD to 67mm, it´s a little better but I still see dubble HUD´s. But I try not to focus my eyes on the hud, just following the lines and markers on the HUD.

The is there are 2 IPD settings: DCS World and Rift S settings.

So I don't know what is best, set one or the other or both ?
