Quick question about the infantry in dcs.

Will they be grouped in differant types of squads, such as rifle squad, machine gun squad, anti0tank squad etc or is it just a mixture of them all?

To BUILD One is Something.

But to FLYis EVERYTHING.

will it be possible to change "what you see" on screen with settings this time round?

Meaning that i might want external views on but only for friendly's or have tags on but only for Friendlys or.. etc.. etc!

(if i use external view on for friendlys ill be able to see my mates flying but not the enemy's)

Would be nice if it were possible!

Such options are not enforceable in the mission, but IIRC, there are keyboard commands available to cycle through friendly and enemy external views.

Currently, infantry models are relatively simple, individual units. However,

you can use the ME template function to create and save squad or other group templates.

To give you more details, Russia currently has a rifleman (AK-74) and a grenadier (RPG). The U.S. has a rifleman (M4) and a machine gunner (SAW). The insurgents also have a rufleman and grenadier, but they are not animated to run.

In short, as we've discussed before, these are ED's initial steps in developing infantry models. Spending more effort on them at this point is very inefficient, becase of current engine limitations, which make it a very time consuming affair. As DCS is developed further in the next modules, I'm sure that infantry models will also be improved.

How about animated Igla (ru)/ Stinger(us) units?! Perhaps more welcome than a AK-74 rifleman!

We're having a discussion here at "New models from Russia" thread:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=531054#post531054

and after seeing details of 3D models from BS screenshots Renato 71 asked about damage models of those vehicles.

It gave me an idea of vehicle damage stages! This might be already asked and answered so please excuse me if I suggest partial damage stages.

OK let's imagine a T-80UD that gets it's track ripped by a landmine, C-8 or a RPG. Logically, it can't move without tracks but it still presents a threat with functional Rapira-3 gun. So it comes to a halt asking for more punishment to pass the pearly gates.

I believe using the "Damage stage" term is pretty adequate in this case!

So is this possible in BS, or may it become possible in later DCS modules!

At this time, MANPAD units are not mobile. Hopefully, in upcoming modules.

Again, AI vehicle damage modeling will probably become more complex over time. At this point, the damage model accounts for various levels of armor thickness over the vehicle's sides.

With separate executables, is it possible that we might have a different configuration of mods / addons for single and multi?. That is to say, say it happened some time for the launch and has left a few addons and others, these addons are more or less good, and may or may not affect the stability of the sim. Could we start with some addons single and multi with others?.

Sorry for my english.

no.

How long will the Ka-50 fly or hower with a full tank of fuel? And what about with the extra fuel pods?

Can the signal flares be used the same way as the defensive flares? Not through the programming mode of course but if I run out of regular flares, will they still trick the IR missiles?

Thanks :)

This was not mentioned in the last PN, IIRC. Wags just showed them off but no word on if they were suitable as standard flares.

Are there ever occasions when ground vehicles will pop smoke and take evasive action?

If so, when does this happen?

Thanks,

LP

modules:

F5-E / A4-E / A-10A / AJS-37 / SA-342 / UH-1H / Ka-50 / Mi-8 / CA

would buy:

OH-58 /AH-64A / AH-1 / Sepecat Jaguar / F-111

Can we print briefing, flight plan and target information, instead off Lockon?

P.S: if not, I'll add it in the wish list.

Thanks,

This is an EXCELLENT question. The Shkval doesn't have thermal capability. Vehicle smoke or smoke from arty would be an interesting addition.

So in addition to his question, can we maybe set up smoke screens as a scripted event in the ME?

EDIT: for that matter, is the effect of smoke masking the Shkval's LOS even modeled at this point?

I don't believe the signal flares burn in the same IR band as the decoy flares, but perhaps a tester with some free time may test this.

Im sorry,I've tried the search with no luck as I'm sure this has been asked before.

Will you be able to land the Ka-50 on top of buildings and ships?

Thank You

Been there, done that. Sometimes I get lazy and just sit on top of a building that overlooks the battle, and just start shooting. But if the building collapse....so do you.

I have a question about multicore CPU's, particularly dual v's quad.

My father is about to order a new PC. I will visit him in Scotland at Xmas to set it up. Lets say he wants to optimize the CPU for BS. His budget allows him to buy an E8500 and run it around 3.6Ghz or he can opt for a Q6700 or similar and clock it up maybe to 3Ghz.

Which one should he buy? Will BS utilise the quad cores now or in the distance future. I am guessing the higher speed E8500 will be better, it will also give better results in IL2 1946 and FS9 which are the other 2 games he plays.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I have trolled thru the forum but kind find clear answwer to this.

Cheers

Iain
