Squid_DK Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I really like the look of the new terrain, much more realistic to view, and with greater depth perception. Good work. BBQ Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=950&scr=default&lang=en#p6 Looking great! I especially like the new water. :pilotfly:
Boberro Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Water.... maybe is good, maybe not... (for me is fifty fifty) but even if we get the point that water is good look at area near water - uuuggglllyyy. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... Avimimus Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 So will there be small motor boats or river boats in the future? Certainly fun to escort (or use in rivercrossing/beachead scenarios.
-akyla- Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 the new water will have animations :) To give the small streams a more natural look, “DCS: Black Shark” will include animation to the water texture. The below images compare streams in “Flaming Cliffs” and “DCS: Black Shark”. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Smith Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Now I only hope they are redoing the runway and taxiway textures. This pic doesn't look like ED worked already on it. ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted October 27, 2007 ED Team Posted October 27, 2007 Something tells me that pictures is rather old. Look at the trees in the distance for instance. They're transparent :) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
Avimimus Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 AAAh! The high contrast. Some of us have eye conditions and find anything the isn't a bit indistinct an immersion killer! Is there a way to activate the old washed out colours in DCS?

Immermann Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 It came up in a thread at SimHQ, so I thought I should post the same thing here. Will DCS use the tessellation capability of the ATI R6xx (most likely in Nvidias GPU's too in the future) to enhance the terrain, when it's supported in DX? http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/05/14/r600_finally_dx10_hardware_from_ati/page15.html
einsena Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 looks good enough for me :smilewink: just give the modders some editing tools and we're good to go!

I'm glad you've said that's an 'old' thing. :) "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
brewber19 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Damn, that actually looks good, whereas most of the other screens we've seen the terrain looks...marginally better/bit more detailed. This gives me hope the aesthetics might actually keep up with the fidelity of simulation...which together work toward immersion (suspension of disbelief etc). Wish ED would release more screenies of the terrain, give us confidence, but perhaps thats one of their "wow" factors they want to hang on to?! EvilBivol-1 Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Wish ED would release more screenies of the terrain, give us confidence, but perhaps thats one of their "wow" factors they want to hang on to?!I wouldn't call the terrain improvements a "wow" factor, but a significant improvement, especially in the new areas where the mountains are much rounder. The higher tree, building and road density is also quite visible. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
JEFX Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I think that after so many dozens of screenies of (great!) ground models, I would really like to beg for a batch of screeshots that really show those aspects (those that Evil-Bilol-1 is talking about and that we kind of see in that picture : http://www.simhq.com/_air10/air_325d.html Anyhow, its been quite a while without any screenies? thanks JEFX [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... 51GRIZZLY Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Reading about the new terrain i see that The map will be extended down to Georgia and the turkish border. But what about the Crimean peninsula, will it still be available with all its Airbases or does the Eastern expansion cost us the western part ?

Flanker15 Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 How are we going to run this new terrain? I already had to turn the draw distance for scenery buildings in FC to low to get a stable frame rate out of a modern computer. Now it's way more pretty! Is ED working on optimizing the engine?
