MilesD
Hey Guys, First off I hope you,and those close to you are safe and healthy. Apologies for the shipping delays, as things have been very busy here with designing and manufacturing PPE products for a regional hospital system. PointCTRL v2 is coming along well. A batch of bare production PCBs have been ordered for proofing and prototyping production units on new equipment that should speed up the rest of the orders. Here are some pics of mock ups based on the current PCB design. Our goal is to begin shipping the first PointCTRL v2 kits by June 15th. I will be posting more detailed specs in a few days. But the biggest change is size, and injection/overmoulding of the FCus Now shipping up to website Pre-Order Form date 2022/06/01 Pre-Order Form Submission https://pointctrl.com/preorder-form/ PointCTRL Support Discord https://discord.gg/jH5FktJ PintCTRL Website https://pointctrl.com/

MilesD
How do you charge the new ones? I do not see plugin for it. Hey Drac, Good question. The Pics of V2 are mock ups without the PCB inside. I added onboard lipo battery charging components and circuitry through a vertical micro USB port to each FCU. We are able to control the charge current for more efficient charging of the slightly smaller lipo battery of version 2. I will have magnetic micro USB connectors available for ease of use and durability for those interested in that option. Quick question, if we wanted to upgrade to the new FCU's (great name by the way ;)) would they work OK with the existing HMS? Cheers Hey RatCatcher, Well you did name them... Yes, v2 FCU's will be available separately, and compatable with the current HMS with a firmware update. However, each FCU button press will be identified by the HMS separately, so we can add new functionality, such as pressing FCU buttons 3 on each FCU together ejects. or does some other admin functions. RogueSqdn
Really looking forward to the new gear Miles, especially because of the smaller size and the charging connector. I had a chat with Miles on Discord earlier, and he asked me to post a few pictures here that I sent him of my cockpit setup for PointCTRL. I've set up a board to rest my fingers against, simulating the presence of an instrument panel in front of me. This was inspired by AndrewUK, and modified to fit my cockpit setup. The posts holding the board up are pine 1x2s, and the board itself is a black foam trifold board from Staples, about $14, of the type that would be used in a school science project. It's stapled to the posts and the whole setup has velcro straps attaching it to the cockpit when I need it. The grey surfaces you see in the photos are outdoor carpet from Lowes, and the velcro sticks right to it, and sufficiently holds the panel in place when I'm flying. I only had to use a box cutter to cut a hole for my legs and flight stick. The whole point for me was that my pointing finger would get a little jittery when holding it out for an extended period, especially due to rotator cuff surgery a few years ago on my right shoulder. Having something to rest my finger on makes all the difference in the world. The major con with this setup is that I can't see the 42" TV that is my cockpit monitor when I have it in place. The two major hurdles I had to overcome were both weight and ease of installation/removal. The trifold board solves both, because I can undo the velcro straps and easily stow the board off to my side when I don't need it. I had an idea this weekend about potentially using polycarbonate sheets that I could see through, but one sheet of the size necessary would be about $90, and wouldn't have the mobility of the trifold. I can't easily climb in over the consoles due to issues with my knee (the major reason for the open front design I came up with), so being able to remove the panel is of prime importance. I hope this inspires others to come up with their own ideas, maybe one that's better than mine! Ratcatcher
@Miles Really looking forward to ordering the new FCU's when ready. I now use the Hornet stick so will be handy to have a smaller form factor. Also good news about the button customization. I was thinking of also getting an extra strip for the headset in order to assign it things like 'hook up' and the 'salute' for the new SC addition. @Rougue Looks great! I have now moved my board to a separate desk and have used a gym floor mat (nice black slightly spongy material) against a peice of MDF. I like the material you've used though so will have to try and find that over here. Hat's off to Andrew for the idea and you for the execution of it! MilesD
Are people really living up side down... ? I think the thumbnails automatically orient that way in the southern hemisphere. Either that, or RogueSqdn must have exited DCS while inverted. Hey Mustang, Yes, you are correct, I am waiting on Micro-Controllers and Bare PCBs for PointCTRL v2. Stuff is really hit or miss. I am getting components or parts I don't need quickly, yet important items are stuck in customs, or US suppliers are waiting for restocking. RogueSqdn
Redid my cockpit this weekend after seeing some inspiration on Reddit. No idea why the forum is inverting my thumbnails... they're not inverted on the computer, and I downloaded them from iCloud. :wallbash: Well I tried something before hitting submit on the post... instead of using the iCloud for Windows to save them to the computer, I went to the iCloud Photos site and downloaded them from there. No inversion. At any rate, the first picture shows two things. One, when I ordered my chair I had to order it in pairs on Amazon, and I keep the extra in the garage in case my cockpit chair wears out or gets damaged. I used that spare to help build the new cockpit so I wouldn't have to haul the cockpit chair downstairs. Two, next to my FSSB mount, I mounted a Logitech MX Ergo trackball on a swiveling mount, so it can rotate closer to me when not using the FSSB. I kept the keyboard tray and TV mount the same. The only thing I have left to do is to install a floor mat I bought, a black foam one with a diamond pattern from Home Depot. The outdoor carpet on the base is hard to keep clean because everything sticks to it, so If I have a floor mat down, I can just remove it and shake it out to clean it. I just have to cut it to size because of the rudder pedals (VPC ACE2) and the center stick (VPC T-50CM2 base). RogueSqdn
I cut the floor mat. I misjudged around the stick and pedals a bit, so on Monday after work I'll go get another floor mat. For right now, I covered up my errors with electrical tape (which isn't sticking very well). Jarhead0331
Any update on these? I'd like to order the v1, but if v2 is right around the corner, I'll hold off. Also, is online ordering going to be implemented on the Pointctrl website soon? Seems like that will be a much more convenient way to go about making the purchase. Thanks. MilesD
I'ts hard to say when v2 will be ready. I am waiting on new proto PCBs to proof, Small issue with the originals. I am working at it though. I will probably have a smaller FCU in a few weeks, Kind of a v1.5 , Not as small as the v2, because it uses v1 PCB, but with a smaller battery. I wish I could give you are better answer, but when I do, I am always way off.
