Notso Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Ok maybe more than just somewhat. For $40, It's a tiny map. It doesn't even have ALL of syria on there, which misses the opportunity to run a lot of the current ops against ISIS out west along the Syrian/Iraqi border. I also wish it had more Turkey and Northern Iraq as it would have been perfect to be able to run both ONW and OIF mission out of Incirlik into the Mosul/Irbil area as well as the N36 NO FLY line from ONW. If it was meant to be a more modern Syria only conflict with the civil war - then it should have encompassed more of the Med with Cyprus, Sicily and such to simulate more of the constraints of distance that the land based aircraft had to deal with to get to Syria from the Western side. It also leaves out the coalition strikes on ISIS targets that came out of the PG, mainly UAE. I'm hoping eventually the Syria and PG maps merge and they add all of Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Israel and such to make it more geopolitically correct for how forces fought conflicts in that area of the world. I would LOVE to eventually see a larger MENA map for DCS as that would encompass pretty much all of the world conflicts since the early 70 to current day. But as it is now - meh. FoxOne007 Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Just a quick FYI, Cyprus is planned in a later update, but I defo agree with the rest of your points, some more of landmass North, East and even South in Jordan (like Al-Azraq AFB) would be really welcome. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
sublime Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 well its my favorite map by far but you got seriously good points just like caucauses.. leaving the crimea just empty was almost criminal if anything the kuban shoulda been empty especially since this is the spiritual successor of 95s flanker which.. was in crimea
sirrah Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Strange how opinions and experiences can differ. As I absolutely love the new Syria map! Great diversity in terrain, multiple valleys to tear through, very high detail on airfields, curved runways, cities that extend over mountain hills, just to name a few eye-catching features. I do agree with you that the total map size might be a bit small, but, as sublime also mentioned, (portions of) Cyprus will be added at later stage. Also, I don't know if it would effect performance much if the map size were to be increased, but my poor pc is already struggling as it is now :P System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
MAXsenna Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Best map ever, but you have some strong points. Let's cross our fingers for the future! And as people already mentioned. Cyprus is coming. Just this turn around and decision alone by ED and Ugra bosses well for the future I think. Cheers! PS: My comp is seven years old. 32 gigs, i7 at 3.8, GTX Titan with only 6 gigs. 4 SSDs in stripe. Fiddled arround with settings, mostly to get rid of shimmering. Only place it struggles are over cities. Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk
dorianR666 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) in my opinion, its the best map in dcs so far. then it should have encompassed more of the Med with Cyprus, Sicily sicily?! you realize there are pretty severe limitations on DCS map sizes right do a little experiment: land your plane on caucasus map somewhere in turkey in the south-west of the map, or in the unpopulated area south-east (armenia). land and look around the plane. youll see the terrain texture and grass jerking around like crazy - thats precision loss in coordinates. the further you go from the center (0; 0; 0), the bigger the error is. Oceandar Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I agree its rather small but other than that I'm quite happy. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
Ala13_ManOWar Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Funnily enough, AFAIK it's the biggest map on DCS to date :music_whistling: . S! Nealius Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 It feels rather large to me, and I'm mostly satisfied. I do wish it were expanded S/SE a bit more. Cyrpus is in the works so that will be great. My only disappointment is the lack of Israeli and Syrian airbases. Syrias major MiG-29 base is completely missing, along with quite a few other major MiG-21/-23 air bases. In Israel we're missing Hatzor which (IIRC) is a major F-15 or F-16 base. Ramat is also lacking parking spaces.

BaD CrC Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 This map is by far the best looking map ever available in DCS and the size is perfect. But I am talking from the RW point of view, that is below 110 kt and 200 ft. We flew 2.5 hours last night from Turkey to Syria across the mountains, tight canyons, following up the rivers, then into green valleys followed by dryer areas. Jaw dropped for the entire flight. We couldn't believe how beautiful this map is. Custom buildings everywhere. Possibilities for missions are so endless our mission designers just don't know where to start. Now if you are flying at 600 kt and 30,000 ft, I guess there is nothing much to see up there. I wouldn't know, I got hypoxia above 1,500 ft. :-P https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
Japo32 Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 The best map by far. The level of detail on ground is amazing. Bases look as bases. Simple as put a fence or wall and fill it with details. Small? well would like to have bigger maps in DCS as Falcon Does, but I hope the expanse to the West comes "soon"

... Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 290 miles between the two furthest airports. Fairly reasonable. Only this time they haven't added any additional generic terrain beyond the area depicted. Valleys, mountains, unpaved mountain roads, lakes with moss and sand in the background. It is a great map. The only thing I'm missing is a functional infantry. https://launionescuadron.webnode.es/
