A modified lynx managed to clock 249.1 mph (400.87 kph). :)

A specially modified Lynx did reach that speed, but the regular Lynxes in service are no way near that fast. According to http://www.vectorsite.net/avlynx.html the Lynx AH.1 has a maximum speed of 140 kts (250 kph), and the Lynx HAS.2 125 kts (230 kph). While http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=94 says the Lynx AH.9 has a maximum speed of 138 kts.

Which is slower than most other modern attack helicopters.

Also in case anyone was interested.. im sure noone has seen this before, as i was part of the 2 man team who created the MOD.. all the best

400.87 kph ?

On a single rotor helo?

I thought normal top speed is about 340kph, as with speeds above the blade moving forward loses stability and the one going back stalls out?

I always like the way the cobra looks, especially the whiskey and Zulu model.

I also like the KA-50 but fully loaded, I don't like how it looks with no weapons

I guess the only reason is the looks since don't know much about helicopters

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

From http://www.vectorsite.net/avlynx.html#m2:

The 102nd production Lynx AH.1[...] was also substantially reconfigured for an attempt on the pure rotorcraft world speed record, being aerodynamically cleaned up and fitted with twin auxiliary tailfins; a new composite main rotor with swept tips, developed under the British Experimental Rotor Program (BERP); and powerful Gem 60 engines providing 940 kW (1,260 SHP) each. The engines featured water-methanol power boost, exhausts pointing backwards to give additional thrust, and were qualified for operating at redline for five minutes. The successful record flight was on 11 August 1986, with the machine flying a 15 kilometer (9.3 mile) course at an average speed of 400.87 KPH (249 MPH).

So it was no regular Lynx.

Well, Frenchy702 allready said it was a modded Lynx, but I wondered how they managed to overcome the limits. Thanks for the link.

And a quick statement from a fixed-wing-pilot for you fixed-wing-fans:

A helicopter is a collection of rotating parts going round and round and reciprocating parts going up and down - all of them trying to become random in motion.

I'm caught between the KA-50 and the Mi-24, really. The Shark for it's sleek looks, deadly bite and pure strangeness. The Hind for it's pure brutal looks combined with it's capabilities.

Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone.

I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.

A good bird, but I just don't like the front section. It looks like FozzyBear:

Hind of course. Maybe because I live few kilometers from Polish 56 Regiment of Attack Helicopters, and I see Hinds over my head quite often.

Comanche (although canceled)

For me all attack helicopters looks russian, the only difference is that the russian ones don't feel "ashamed" of it.

I like Comanche because it tried to go away from this "concept" of having a "fan" to which you keep attaching things you need till it looks like a pile of junk suspended from a magnet.

Sorry... I like "clean" aircrafts/hellos more :P .

edit: Hey, look at my post count (666 ATM), no wonder I am so evil this time :D .

Ka-50 is great  Maybe an EFIS version would be nice, but I think Ka-50 is more beautiful than Ka-52, this is very ugly for me.

AH-64 is beautiful too, but I think Tiger is more manoeuvrable, and probably works better in urban environments.

Mi-24 - simply, violent and dreadful

I like the sound of the Huey engine

Hi-pitch noise of turbine engine isn't very pretty, probably you've thought about very characteristic sound of Huey's two blade rotor - not so charming in 4-blade version ;)

What, high pitch turbine noise isn't pretty!! Of course it is man :smilewink: . Although you've got a point about the blades, it's the characteristic "Huey" sound of the blades chop, chop, chopping through the air that really makes the music :music_whistling: but with helicopters I tend to lump all that into one and call it engine noise/sound  .

Cozmo.

oh! oh! me too!!

I want to say I'd prefer the Longbow, but actually I'd fly any gunship that had night-fighting capability as added flexibility. I wonder which helo is actially best equipped for that?

Flyby (the redoubtable) out

AH-64D Longbow.

Its avionics coupled with the night sensors (particularly MTADS which i'll get to use once I get out of TRADOC) armament and the insane capabilities of the FCR for meeting a large armor threat just make it a rediculously deadly aircraft. It's also highly maneuverable and durable. And actually, even with the legacy FLIR I feel very confident flying at night, even with a crappy FLIR picture. She's a solid piece of Helicopter and an absolute joy to fly.
