F-15 Coming Along?

Hey Borchi_2b,

Anxious to see how your F-15 model is coming along. My computer crashes everytime I try to get on to Sim-Mod.com where all your updates are so I thought I'd check here at DCS. Could you give me an idea of your progress and possible release for the new -15C?

Keep up the good work,

Wilbur-81

Awesome,

I have been chekcing sim-mod daily..

Updates :pilotfly: :smilewink:

STT Radar issue is leftover code.

the delay is my fault, I pointed out a couple errors on the model and Borchi has been very patient with me to fix them. Its better to hear criticism from one person than 100 if he posts up another WIP screen. But nonetheless the model is coming together nicely. We're still a long way off from the release date but its still progress.

fault ?

I think this is better to wait a new model without any bug instead of having an earlier released but incomplete or "bugged" model

take the time you need to make it, "we" will wait :)

Best things so far about Borchi's model:

1. The nose looks good from the pictures shown so far

2. The pilot has his visor down. This bugged me with the Walmis one. I prefer the visor down, like the stock NATO pilots.

Looking forward to your update! :)

well the nose, yes thats one thing that makes the eagle look right.

the visor, well right now it is down, but there will be an animation linked to the canopy movement but when it is done you will see for yourself what animations we have done in the end :-)

here is one picture, right now it is supposed to be that way :- )

Model looks fantastic already. I have already replied on fighterops forums, however here I'd like to mention it again :) Great work!

Can the visor animation be linked with canopy? Will it be correctly animated when at the same time pilot is moving its head (TrackIR) ?

Yes by using the same argument for the animation.

It is just a matter of rigging the visor object to the helmet - it is really the same deal as with gun elevation/turret rotation of a tank.

Player cockpit view just activates the argument for pilot head movement of the 3D model in the same way as for AI controlled aircraft, so it should work fine :) .

Actually linking to the visor to the canopy is not necessary a good idea. Its the most obvious choice yes, but not the best.

Rather, it should be connected to the gears as an inverse command. For two reasons:

1.) if you link the visor to the canopy, when you eject or the canopy flies off, your visor would be open. And that doesn't make sense because if you're about the punch out, you don't want to expose your face to the high winds.

2.) connecting it to the gears would be a better choice. It would work inversely, so as the gears come up, the visor goes down. And this would make sense since he's ready for combat. And again, if the gears goes down, the visor comes up because the pilot want to see the runway. That's what I would do.

well i would like to link it to the stairs, which i want to remove, cause it is not realistic that the stairs come up by gods hand :-)

this way we still have the animation of the visor at the same time the canopy comes down and we can still eject with the visor down

How are you keeping Alfa?. It’s like long time no see don’t you think?

De-icing switch forgotten.?

Ndb is good and you alright too, so no offence there.

Come on, SuperKungFu! I don't mean no disrespect, but you have to admit that this is nonsense.

Not the fact that you would link the visor to the gear (with borchi's pilot it would actually be a valid option; why?, see below *) but your reasons for doing it don't make sense.

Ready for combat = visor down???

In Reality:

If it's a sunny day, you lower the dark visor as soon as you put on the helmet, unless your jet is not sittin' on the ramp, but is parked in the shelter maybe.

If it's cloudy, rainy or if you fly late in the day, you'll probably use the clear visor.

Visor up because the pilot wants to see the runway???

You know as well as I that the regular dark visors are basically better sunglasses. So why would you not be able to see the runway, if you keep it down on final approach?!

If it's a bright and sunny day you would definately not lift the dark visor, because if you do, then you wouldn't see as much anymore actually.

*

Having said all that, linking it to the gear would work with borchi's pilot and would still make sense, because in earlier screenshots he was wearing a pair of sunglasses underneath the dark visor.

So on the ground he wears the sunglasses with the visor up and on final approach with the gear down it would be the same thing.

So if the pilot-model still has the sunglasses, then linking the visor to the gear is an option that makes sense.

If not, then linking it to the gear is just as unrealistic as linking it to the canopy.

Linking it to the stairs would be the best option in my opinion, just like borchi_2b said.

Looking foreward to your eagle, borchi_2b!

Keep doing your thing!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there's no need to be offensive about it ok?

I only suggested it because i didn't want it to be linked to the canopy because in the A-10, if the canopy flies off while ejecting, so does the visor. To avoid this, I suggested linking it to something else like the gears.

And the sunglasses are no longer there. And we didn't model clear visors. Regardless, borchi already made up his mind, so there was no need for your comment other than to try and pick a fight.
