The action on my Saitek X-45 has been getting really creaky rough lately. Wax used to help but not so much any more. So I got a tube of non-conductive plastic lube from Radio Shack and applied it to the shaft and the the bottom of the "cone." I succeded in making the action 10x as sticky.

Any advice?

Other than X-52?

OK I'm always kidding as U can see.

I had no experience with Saitek joystick and I never heard someone having a need to grease it but let me tell you that Cougar that I use requires greasing every 2 or 3 months!

I hope there's someone here who'll give you a better advice!

I hate being "grounded" due to hardware issues, I know how you feel ATM!

I've switched over to a Forcefeedback 2 / X-45 throttle combo, so I'm still truckin, I just miss having an extra hat switch and 2 more buttons. But ideally, I would like to get my X-45 as smooth as it was when it was new.

Btw, I did expect to attract a certain type of humor with that title ;-)

I use 3 of this ( i dont know the name in english XDDDD) fixing two circunferences of the spring together at the very end of this plastic fancy, in three points forming a triangle.

Tomorrow i take a pic to show you if this ugly english description dont help you.

The force that this plastic made in the spring soften the axis of my X-45 and went smooth enough for me.

I had a similar problem how to fix it is get some engine oil(I used a few drops of 4 stroke lawnmower engine oil) and tilt your stick full left or right and pour a bit of oil into the rubber bit above the socket. From there just move the stick left/right/up and down to work the oil in the socket. I find I have to do this every 4-5 months as the oil drys up again.

It's call cable tie or zip tie

You should try some of the things that were mentioned here...they are good advised fixes. Relieving spring tension means the joystick isnt pushed into the pots so hard and it gives you a looser stick in general. Oiling the rubber boots helps too as it prevents dry rot. What I would do, is a combination of the zip ties and taking the joystick apart and lubing the contact pots with some sort of oil like astroglide or KY jelly. Before you do that though, you should clean it up really good with acetone or fingernail polish, if you will. Some 600 grit sandpaper to loosen some of the worn plastic off the contact portion of the joystick (lightly applied and cleaned), and polished up with some 800 grit paper, then 1200 grit if you can find it. You have to be careful with the soldered connections in the stick though...you loosen one and you dont have a schematic, your screwed.

I just noticed some of my post may seem gay, but no.

Thats how i did it on my X45 back then, it worked like a charm.

Some people recommended Graphite powder or teflon grease.

Graphite powder is good lubrication, but it is conductive too, so thats something you want to be careful with.

Read somewhere that Fabric Softener is used. Subsequent to that I successfully used it on my Saitek Cyborg Evo as a lubricant.

Just polish/smear it on with a cloth or the like - works a charm.

Don't use the spray, it gets gunky after a while, the one thing that I've found that works 100% is Silicon Grease, you can buy it from any dive (scuba) shop.

Same thing happens with my X52. Some nice suggestions here, thanks. But I would strongly recommend not putting anything petroleum based on plastic/rubber. Over a while it will corrode it. eg wd40/engine oil.

This one of my biggest problems with Saitek sticks. They really should provide a proper dust cover (like what you have around the bottom of your gear stick in a car) and factory lubrication for those exposed spring and plastic cup joysticks. Even the X52Pro is the same, seems different coloured lights are more important to the design team than actually improving the products flaws... :music_whistling:

Got any ideas about greasing the cougar throttle?

I'm not quite sure what grease to use.
