Forest Fires, Working "Bambi-buckets" and a CL 415 Super scooper !

Recommended Posts

If I were to win a lottery, would a design team consider a forest fire fighting mod.  In the least a water drop animation for the bambi-buckets.  And the ability to put out a fire and smoke effect, swapping it with a steam effect.  The big wish would be the CL-415 water bomber, and a water/retardant drop effect to go with it.

Yes please.. Although we'd have to wait for a 'line of fire' to be implemented.. And then- its probably not gonna be called a 'combat sim' anymore..

Exactly, because you would still be in combat except it would be Combating forest fires. 😉

I had suggested the same thing before because there is no other simulator out there that fills this nitch.  I bet it would attract a whole new fan base that was not interested in DCS before because it was a typical combat simulation but would be interested in combating wild fires.

All DCS has to do is to add the necessary coding for the creation of wildfire missions and add the firefighting skin and loadout (water bucket or fixed tank)  for the Huey which is based on the same UH-1H variant that is already in DCS to get the ball rolling and attract a new potential 3rd party that would specialize in firefighting.

Sorry that just sounds really boring.

There’s already a non-combat flight simulator game. And it has such resources behind it that no other company will be able to complete in that segment. Anyone who is interested in non-combat flight simulation already owns it.

+1, would add a more practical reason to sling load stuff, and there is a server that even does this:

Even if you don't have an interest in firefighting it would benefit you in the long term because of the increased sales of the helicopter modules outfitted with firefighting equipment.

@Savagebliss I don't see why not.  All the terrain is there.  You just need a forest fire simulation, and then ED could make the planes for it.  Planes would probably be about as simple as the WW2 birds.

A sim is a sim, and money is money.  The more money ED brings in, the better for everyone.  Win / Win!

No it wouldn’t really benefit anyone. Players don’t buy DCS to do firefighting.  It would be a waste of ED’s resources which would be better spent on the core focus of the sim. If a 3rd party or modder wants to create this that’s fine.

Those aren’t simple, it takes about 2 years to make one. Again it would be a gigantic waste of resources that ED could use to make WWII combat aircraft.

Lol, you're like others.  You don't get it.  DCS is a WORLD Sim.  It's about simulating a WORLD.  This is where the sales are.  This is where the money is.  And what really sells this is that you have all these different simulations of different things in the same WORLD.  THAT is what REALLY sells a sim.  It means they can all interact with each other, which makes it all VASTLY more interesting.

If DCS needs more people to work on more things, they can hire them.  It all just depends on how much money is coming in to support them.  More mods, more simulation, more money.

No it’s really not. It’s a combat simulation game. It says so in the name. And in the Devs own description.

Ironic that you say this in a thread with people interested in it, plus I already showed you a video from the search and rescue server, who must've gone to a fairly great length to implement forest fires and firefighting.

Count me in for loving the idea.

I wonder if the dissenter also complained about the Mi8 Oilfield Campaign, which included...no combat.

I could see how this might well attract new players to DCS, and therefore their funding for further modules.

That would be cool! While they’re doing it, lets add a crop dusting module. Developers could simply just create corn and wheat out of sand maps, simple! Also, one for news helicopters.  I can imagine circling a realistic looking protest for hours, keeping the camera steady, what a blast!!
And to the nay sayers, we want the name changed to “Digital Community Simulator “

if you disagree, you will be canceled....

Every wish thread attracts people who agree with it. That doesn’t make every wish worth doing.

If there’s already a sever like this why do you need more?

I agree totally!
Down low DCS rules that other thing, and will forever just get better the more people join us!

Again, you do realize that it’s futile for anyone to make non-combat flight simulations anymore. It’s all monopolized by a single giant software company now. People who want that sort of game won’t be buying DCS

this is about as close as I could get to doing fire fighting stuff within the limitations of the DCS scripting API (did this a 3 years ago)

Then why would the Devs allow aircraft such as the Yak, or CEII into their simulation?  Fact is, DCS is slowly evolving.  Apparently, you can't seem to accept that.

As someone who owns DCS and that other sim, I find myself coming to DCS a hell of a lot more because of the fact it's flight characteristics for the aircraft are much more realistic.  The only thing the other simulation has going for it are the global possibilities and better ATC, IMO of course.  I can't tell you how often I come to DCS just to fly off in the YAK or F-5 for no other reason than to simply fly and enjoy the scenery.

To the OP, I'm all for this idea.  The more possibilities that can be brought to DCS the better.

is that the same sim that doesn’t as yet model helicopters?

yeah, clearly you’ll have wannabe pilots rushing to using it...

As the game currently sits, you can hardly find a target after its been bombed.  There is just a lame “puff” then gone. If they currently can’t model bomb damage, how could they model a forrest fire currently?
Better yet, if we can’t accurately use every feature in current modules, why should they waste the resources making Sim city DCS?
To each their own I guess and it is a “wish list” so wish away. It’s as valid as any other wish, just a bit off target in my opinion, but again that’s me

Yeah but the CEII is a failure by a third party. It’s been in early access for over three years! A simple prop plane....
The Yak is still mired in early access too, after over two years. Again it’s just a simple prop plane but apparently it doesn’t sell well enough to fund completing it. And those projects date from before 2020 when that other sim launched.

There’s completely no future for DCS to “evolve” into trying to compete with a product that it simply can’t match the resources of. That’s just a dead end.
