Under EU laws a customer that had purchased (a legal) software media has the right to make at least one mirror of that media for back up purpose. If the back up media is sold or or or, then then all the royalty laws are applicable on the owner.

(I can find the link if you wish from the EU laws database.)

 

So with this in mind, will i be able to make a back up of the BS DVD i am planing to purchase?

For copy protection the download version of Black Shark uses an online activation process where the serial number(issued with the purchase) is linked to your hardware profile. With this method you can re-download the actual game files or make back-up copies as much as you like.

 

The DVD version instead employs a weekly disk-check - that method would be totally useless if the disk itself could just be copied.

I think this will only affect the download version of BS, if you change your hardware significantly you will most likely have to re-activate the product online.

 

I doubt that the DVD version would require activation as it has the weekly in use check.

 

This is how it was for LO at least and this seems to be a similar system.

I'm pleased with the CP system used, I'll propably get both a DL and a hardcopy, just to have something to flaunt for all the simheads that pop by my place..

 

I can understand the need for a good CP (profit on a computer or console game in Denmark is normally less than 18%, compare that to other stuff in the store I work where we can make 450% profit) it is clear that the huge investment should be protected..

 

One thing, will the printed manual be offered for sale before the game hits the shelves/distribution system??

It means that a re-activation is required after a major hardware change, but as Groove said, with your purchase you get 10 activations for your serial number which really should be enough for the product's life cycle.

 

Nevertheless, ED has in the past looked favourably at requests for further activations when the customer could provide proof of purchase and I don't see any reason why this would change :) .

Very good to know, though for some clarification:

i dont make any HW changes but i do 10 formats and installations of BS. On the 11th will i have a problem having spend all 10 activations or i spent only 1 because its still the same HW?

when SW considers that i made a HW change? with id from CPU or Motherboard?

also think of this scenario, if a person used all his activations of BS but keeps it installed. what will happen when he installs the A10 module? ka50 will be flyable again?

 

and finally to bump a question of rjester. will i be able to download russian version from outside russia or not? and the russian version is considered seperate product from western? or i can download next week rus version and when western is released i should get a new one?

Great to hear it's almost done and i dont have any problems with starforce, my lomac/FC discs work great, no problems here. :thumbup: some of you guys are blowing the whole thing out of proportion it's probably going to be the same as the copy protection for LOMAC/FC. :yes:

This shouldn't pose a problem. For FC we have a regkey extracter to "save" your activation, im sure we will get such a tool for BS too.

If SW= FC then right now i can't answer you that question. I would say a MBO and or CPU change is a significant Hardware change and it will trigger the activation process.

Most probably you will be able to download it worldwide. If you should decide to buy the russian version you will surely need to buy a english too, if you want one.

 

Im sure this points will be cleared up before you can buy the russian version.

Just as a matter of interest, would ED ever consider a point in time where they release a patch that means that a product, for instance BS or FC although still require a key will no longer require the star force protection?

 

I am just thinking that in say 5 years time will I actually own a copy of FC opposed to a rather elaborate rent? I mean if, god forbid, ED goes the way of the dodo I don't want to not be able to use something I have purchased.

 

I mean I still play some of my REALLY old games on virtual machines.
