Why does it take us in the west so long to say "it aint harmful to kids"?. :dunno:

Maybe, due to the level of realism and extensive need to think and learn, it is extremely harmful to a players brainpower?

Suggestion for new ERSB rating "some IQ needed" :D

I'm selling MiG-21 activation key.

Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets.

LOL, they should put that on the front of some TV programs as well, might stop them getting panned by the Sun, Mirror and Star readers as unfunny just because it wasn't base enough for them to understand.

Can a russian program run on XP UK?

Years ago I ordered a russian version of Il2 Forgotten Battles in Moscow. ( The Deluxe version as I got a T-shirt with it )

Unfortunately ( Well.. not really, had 2 english versions already :) ) the game wouldn't install on my XP version ( english)

So like most people I am thinking of buying the russian version while I am waiting for the UK vesion to be released. But before I do that, can someone (now or later) confirm that the russian version will run on western language windows ?

Probably you should try changing region settings on russian in control panel.

I am just thinking that in say 5 years time will I actually own a copy of FC opposed to a rather elaborate rent? I mean if, god forbid, ED goes the way of the dodo I don't want to not be able to use something I have purchased.

I mean I still play some of my REALLY old games on virtual machines.

Have a look at this. If you really need to make an online activation system the one above is optimal IMO. You have no limit on reactivate process, still company has protection from you installing the game on many machines at once. You do not rely on any human support to provide you more activation if you used yours (doesn't matter if it's 3 like EA, or 10 like DCS, they might end eventually). Lastly they clearly state that if something goes wrong in the future (servers go down or something) they will give you a patch removing protection.

This is how it should be done. I'll never buy anything that limits number of activations, let it be 100 of them. Luckily DVD version has nothing like that here.

I have Russian FC running on English (US) Windows XP, also tested on Win2003.

It will install, however you need to access Regional and Language Options in Control Panel, and on tab Advanced change the setting for Language for non-Unicode programs into Russian. If it refuses to install, change above prior to installation. Settings require restarting of Windz.

Works for me and for few budies of mine that bought Russian version. They also use my "translation" of Russian version into English one. For that I used various files from the English version. Also, I've created Croatian (true) translation using this procedure as a reference.

Here is a friendly reminder: We won't tolerate any rants about the protection scheme.

A quote from the Announcement:

I for one am glad they have stuck with Starforce, I been using it for years without problems, but then my PC is not setup for ripping music, movies or games......maybe thats why I never had a problem :pilotfly:, anyways nice to see they stuck to their guns on this, most SF haters whine because they do pirate some form of media, and of course because SF is uncrackable by your average home user, good job all round guys :joystick:

the only problem I did have was having to ask for more keys and not having unlimited installs, but apart from that, it's a very good protection system.

Apart from that...

People die on wars, but apart from that wars are good, you know. They drive the industry, the technological advance, unemployement goes down...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have a serious question: why can't we purchase (DVD) BS from Russia? Is there some kind of legal reason stopping ED from selling an English version of BS to us folks outside of Russia?

As far as I know, there is nothing preventing that. Note though the the Russian version will have no English text options or documentation.

Beautiful! That's what I want!

I also have Russian version of LOFC (boxed edition) so as U can see I'm interested in Russian version of BS (boxed edition too).

But I just checked E-shop link at the home page and still nothing there!

So what I'd like to see as a ED's next move is a list of retailers in Russia that will sell DCS:BS! I have some friends in Moscow that could buy it and ship it to me if those shops do no shipping to Croatia!

Wags any information on what happens at the end of life of BS or FC with the copy protection or if ED go boobies vertical? While ever they are around or they are supporting there releases old or current I don't personally have an issue with SF as it's never given me any problems, but I was wondering what happens if in 10 years I want to install it?

Possible, what makes you think it's not?!!

I bought English LOFC directly thru on-line shopping ED had on "old" LOFC website!

I think a patch would be the solution then.

At the very very very very very minimum 90 days after black shark release for russia.

and then some more veries.

Yeah I know that but my point is that if on the 17th we'll be able to buy the Russian DVD from Russia then why not the English version as well? That way we won't have to wait the extra 90 days.

Because the english version hasn't been finished, and has no publisher. ED are publishing it themselves.

Nate

Edit:- Publishing rights for Russia = 1c, publishing rights for the rest of the world = ED

"In addition to the Russian version, a single western version (DVD and download) including support for English, French, German and Spanish is currently in development. Much localization work still remains and there will be a 90-day period between when the western version is completed and submitted to the various Age Rating Authorities as required by law (ESRB for USA, PEGI for Europe (less Germany) and USK for Germany), then presented to distributers and when the game will be available for purchase. Although the game will be completed in 2008, it may not be available for purchase until early 2009."

Clear enough why.

Localization work remaining- Age Rating pending-Distribution pending= 90 days more waiting.

For anyone with little patient maybe Russian download plus English manual could be the answer.

" You must think in russian.."

As Wags posted before, the problem is not the translation, but legal issues! The game needs to be rated prior to the release and making it available via download equals an release and therefore is not allowed either, before it is rated. And as this rating is done by other states' organizations, it's not in EDs hands.

You could restate the question, though, why this translation was not done before, as this rating-ceremony is not really a secret. I doubt the minor changes during the beta were really a stopping point for translating the game earlier, so these 90 days would at least have started counting down. :(

I'm not trying to push a point, I understand why we have to wait 90 days for BS to be distributed in the west but in the age of the internet where you can purchase films, music etc from around the world then I was just thinking if it was possible for ED to make the English version of BS available internationally from Russia bypassing the censors so to speak altogether.

... making it available via download equals an release and therefore is not allowed either,....

Ah OK that's basically what I was getting at. Too bad it works like.. I knew it but I'm sure I've seen films released in some countries on DVD made available to purchase internationally before they would have got a DVD rating in another country, if you see what I'm getting at. No big deal I waited a long time for the DVD of FC to be released after the DL version came out so 90 days aint so bad.

SF is a big letdown for me but I will buy the german dvd nevertheless. sad that it will take such a long time until it will be available but at least we have a time frame now.

I read something about a english demo in the first post. was is this about? will there be a real demo ?

What legal issues are they talking about, its a russian game released in english, I dont think US or any country laws has any jurisdiction on games released in other countries in whatever the lenguage is...that doesnt make any sense, in fact if I choose to buy the download version for whatever reason, I will do it now, or in 90 days, that means I wont be buying de DVD version anyway, so no retailer sales gets hurt...I dont see the point, BTW I am from Argentina no such ratings exists here.
