sobe Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 It looks like I have given up on flying the HIND as I cannot seem to trim it properly. It is either my fault or a problem with my joystick (a Virpil base and TM stick combo). I have tried everything including both trim methods making sure no FF was listed anywhere making sure no double entries for the joystick and another axis device calibrating my joystick and watch several YT videos on trimming. I did notice that most videos start out with the stick in the very center of the cross hairs in the controls indicator. However, mine starts out about 1/3 rd of the way down and a little to the right. Perhaps it is a problem with my joystick as the TM handle is heavy and may not center properly with the Virpil base. I just do not know and until I can figure this out, it is back to my other modules. Teschmacher Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) did you have any experience flying the Mi-8 before?, if not i suggest to watch tutorials how to fly the mi8 and learn it there. i know that must be frustrating, i have virpil T50 throttle (i use as collective) and the virpil grip with a 9cm extender on a warbrd base with MFG crosswind pedals. it took me a bit of time, but now i have found back my habits and flying experience i gained on the mi-8 and now the 24 behaves just fine - and its not that much different! i can lift it steady, hover steady and land anywhere. even on moving platform on a ship etc you are supposed to trim your stick position accordingly. ldnz Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 We've seen a couple in our group have problems trimming the Mi24 - no effect with the button (you could see it move in cockpit, but no effect), but the directional hat trim would work. Haven't found a consistent issue/fix - one guy fixed it after jumping into the Mi8 and then back and has had no trouble since.
Quatapus Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Your cyclic position in the controls indicator leads me to think you have the "control helper" enabled in the Special menu. Try turning that off, as well as the rudder trimmer. For the Trimmer Mode, set it to default. I found the Hind much easier to fly with these settings. It's not going to let you push a button and walk away, though. You'll still need to give it a bit of left/right and up/down trim every so often. 2
YoYo Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) Yes, it looks like calibration problem (btw. what do see on Windows game controllers? The cross in the center?). What you wrote with DCS controllers indicator it's... good position for hover take off so not bad ;)! For me Hind is very stable, its easier to fly than the Mi-8. Of course, as with everything, it also requires practice and learning appropriate behaviors. What is also good Hind has very good manual trimms - I did a lot of long trips with... hands off, just trimming. Teschmacher Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 from what i see, most of people giving up on the 24 because they have never flew the 8 before. so that's understandable. the 24 as your first rotary module in DCS could be very intimidating and frustrating. you need to learn and understand the way how the SAS/dampers and trimmer system works on this kind of helicopters, if you dont get that you are pretty much doomed. no wonder why the chopper will start yawing and bobbling if you pull up that collective lever straight away 2 My custom made aircraft skins and other content for DCS World! Hiob Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Everything said is correct on its own, but since OP mentioned that the controls indicator shows his stick off center when it‘s physical centered hints on a hardware/driver issue. Since it is a virpil base, go in the virpil software and reload the firmware and trim the axis all over. DO NOT use the windows calibration. But you can check in the windows device settings AFTER you calibrated with the Virpil software. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
sobe Posted June 23, 2021 Author Posted June 23, 2021 "it looks like calibration problem (btw. what do see on Windows game controllers? The cross in the center?" In the Windows game controller, the cross is dead center. I already calibrated the stick in the Virpil software. I guess the "control helper" is sort of like a guide as to where your cyclic should be but it really through me off. 3 Trackir4 using the latest Trackir 5 software, Win10 Pro [Creator Update] updated from Win7Pro Pro 64Bit, Intel® Core™ i5-2500 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA115 , GigaByte GA-Z68XP-UD4 Intel Z68 Chipset DDR3 16GB Ram, GTX MSI Gaming 1060 [6 GB] Video Card, Main Monitor 1 on left 1920x1080 Touchscreen Monitor 2 on right 1920x1080 .

sobe Posted June 23, 2021 Author Posted June 23, 2021 Watching CasmoTV's YT videos as they are very informative. I notice that the Hind wants to move forward even though the collective is all the way back. Is that normal? 1 Trackir4 using the latest Trackir 5 software, Win10 Pro [Creator Update] updated from Win7Pro Pro 64Bit, Intel® Core™ i5-2500 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA115 , GigaByte GA-Z68XP-UD4 Intel Z68 Chipset DDR3 16GB Ram, GTX MSI Gaming 1060 [6 GB] Video Card, Main Monitor 1 on left 1920x1080 Touchscreen Monitor 2 on right 1920x1080 .

The only thing that will block it from rolling is to hold the brake (or parking brake). Edited June 24, 2021 by Frag
Cueball Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 Yep, even I was wondering about the trimmer stuff. I have been able to fly it well enough but having a major rudder issue or rudder trimming issue. One YT guy said in the special menu don't use the default rudder settings and switch it to the next option as far as hit trim and center stick. I have not tested yet. But he stated it sorta will work like the other helicopters. I am stuck on a long work week so not had much time to test things. At this point I put the stick where it's nice and smooth hit trim, then the chopper goes back past where it was originally setting. Surprisingly the bird didn't break. So, after some tinkering my only issue is rudder-yaw trimming. But I have a day off coming up so I will try some of these settings and see if it fixes my problem. Trust what little free time I have had was just setting my Virpil controls, yelling at my AI operator and making a Cyprus Island mission map just for helicopter training.
admiki Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 I really wonder how any DCS player hasn't learn by now to fine comb every single DCS binding, option and setting after every update? DCS has been know for a long time now to mess even with already set things, not to me ntion new setups. 1 1
