The D9 is an excellent choice if you are thinking of getting into DCS WWII. But as you can see, your first impressions don't match other more experienced VPilots experiences. I think this is mostly due to just that... experience.

Regardless of which war bird you decide on, there will be a learning curve to go through before you are able to fly it proficiently. That is one of the benefits of DCS WWII, each plane is different from the other, and has its own strengths and weaknesses. There are lots of YouTube videos that demonstrate each plane in various rolls. My advice would be to start there to get a feel for how others are using your plane of interest.

I highly recommend the WWII assets pack, not just because it allows you to join MP servers that also use it, but because it adds a lot of value to the DCS World experience.

I really encourage you to go back and read @BIGNEWY post again. It is clearly a misunderstanding, because he quite literally asked if you have better flight model data to please share it.

Good luck on your decision and welcome to DCS WWII.

You can’t access multiplayer without first purchasing the ww2 asset pack...

Welcome, to the future of online gaming..

The popularity of a MP server can change from day to day. So whether there is 1, or 1000, it is still a MP server. And a MP server that has seen low activity for the last year could see an increase in activity in the year coming.

It is up to the people running MP servers how they use and implement the assets pack. If I could make one suggestion, it would be for the MP servers to increase the use of the WWII assets pack so that it is more noticeable to the players using the server. This in turn should encourage more people to get it, which in turn would encourage more people to join the MP server.

Even if you don't make a single mission on your own using the assets pack, you are still using it every time you join a server that uses it. So you are getting value from your purchase, its just that it is up to the server to decide how much value.

I don't use MP servers so I can't say that I know that community, but is it possible for users to make suggestions for the types of scenarios they would like to see, or the type of assets they would like to use? This might be another way to increase/improve the use of assets.

Like maps, assets are an absolute necessity if the intention is to have a fully functioning, full featured digital combat simulator.

Going a bit off topic there but hey ho'..
The best thing to do, is to start up the game click on MultiPlayer, and pick a server.

Once youve found a server you like, add them on discord. Then you can make suggestions.
Or type DCS Vintage into reddit and ask Phil there..

Its not true

as stated above you can access multiplayer still, you can enter missions that dont use the asset pack or you can create your own server.

But you have given your feedback, lets not turn this into trolling.

I don't think it's trolling to discuss the very real problem with the experience of WW2 multiplayer and the fragmented map and asset pack SKUs.

I am a newcomer to DCS, and my primary interest is WW2. I gladly bought all the WW2 stuff, and despite that I still honestly think it's unhealthy for the game to not have the asset pack included with the purchase of either WW2 map. Hell, I think a WW2 map (Normandy as it seems to be the accepted standard) and the asset pack should be included with the purchase of any warbird. I think not having done this has caused more damage to the community and ultimately hurt sales more in the long run than any benefit that could have been extracted from pricing them out piecemeal.

I hope for the health of the WW2 product going forward that you guys maybe consider at least bundling those two things (map/assets) together.

I agree that getting things for free is a joy ... but I'd rather have ED be financially healthy, as I want DCS for many years to come.

Rudel are you up for DCS Superfan?

As a superfan we donate and subscribe every month..
We would get special skins, and models, as well miles points to spend..

That way we can support DCS for as long as we live..

Not sure if you are serious or not, but I prefer to just purchase whichever Module ED releases, it's equally effective towards ED's bottom line and more enjoyable for myself. For example, this year I have already purchased:

NS430 for Mi8

NS430

F/A-18 raven One

Mi-8 Crew Part 1

Mi-24P

F-18 Rising Squall

F-16 Red Flag

Mosquito

The old WW2 project coming from a KickStarter maked by a 3rd party with was a plan to build a Standalone product. That 3rd party go to Bankrupt and ED rescue the aircrafts modules project. The initial map (Normandy) was build by other 3rd party centred on build maps (Ugra Media) during KS and was released as own product map after them as a map to DCS World , but that 3rd party never talk about a "assets pack" include on your map. Ugra Media has continue building maps (Syria). ED build after a your own WW2 map (The Channel).

The WW2 assets pack has been build by the old WW2 KS project team, join to ED, but that team like get a reward by your work, release them on paralel to Ugra Media Normandy map.

You can buy as many “gift” modules as you like on Steam already, just buy them and don’t give the code to anyone…

Was there any reason why they stopped producing assets?
I saw the list from Nineline in 2017.. Did they leave the project?
Compared to the free ones ED have given us, I cant imagine why the pack isnt finished?

That list has very outdated, remember has more units added after 2017 list.

However, I dont think @Rudel_chw wants ED to be THAT financially healthy..

Everyone wants ED to do be successful, until its time to pay for something you arent going to use..
The Irony.. 😁

The WWII team is small, and the assets for WWII are impart done by this team, out models are complex and detailed and they take time to do, no amount of money will speed this up. Growing the team will, but again its not as easy as throwing money at a new warm body. We have had assets added since 2017, and we will continue to add assets. Thanks.

I have no problem paying and have done so, it's not a matter of "getting things for free" -- it's a matter of how to best encourage growth in the WW2 segment of the game.

Right now the state of the WW2 stuff is undeniably fractured and incoherent in a way that I'd argue actually hurts sales in the long run. So in my opinion, it's a double whammy: The community stays fractured, and the WW2 portion of the product makes less money. I think there is room for improvement in this regard, and plenty of potential for ED to get more return on their investment if the WW2 stuff was in a healthier place.

Of course, I'm speaking as an outsider primarily concerned with the online stuff. I'm not privy to the financials, and for all I know they could be raking in the cash from users buying the assets hand-over-fist to enjoy offline in single player in their own way. So my argument about the business side is admittedly based on a lot of conjecture. As a player and customer who bought it all for the online experience, I can dream, though!

I'm more of a single-player, having been burned out of the MP scene, and so my WW2 needs are mostly met by the WW2 Campaigns that third parties make plus my own single missions.

The WW2 Assets caught my interest mostly for use on my own missions (tough it is needed also for many DLC Campaigns) and purchased it as a Pack with Normandy for US$ 48 on March 2017. I know that for some people it may seem expensive, but I believe that over these 4.5 years I have gotten more than a fair return on investment, having flown many hours on WW2 missions.

As you surmise I think you are overestimating the importance of multiplayer on the impact of sales. I believe it is niche. Almost definitely the most hardcore group of players, the most vocal on forums and probably provide some of the best feedback and most demanding in terms of realism. So they certainly deserve ED’s ear, maybe more than simple percentages of customers who play online would suggest but in pure business terms I believe it is a small minority.

I mean it’s a matter of a persons individual taste.

As a whole I’ve only ever played multiplayer.

If I want to learn how to do something I’ll watch a grim reapers video and jump into a multiplayer game and learn then and there with a bunch of peeps.

Ive never bought a campaign and with the exception of the odd couple of times in the editor, I’ve never played a single player mission.

I did ask a few of the peeps in my discord and 6 people also had the same view.

Only 2 people in my discord actually and actively played single player as well as multiplayer.

Back to the post in hand, and assets aside.

When were all online we are either all in the Dora or the Spit.

so they’re the only two I’d personally recommend when in multiplayer.

Next time I’ll just say ‘to play in the populated servers’ rather than get mixed up in the definition or word ‘multiplayer’.
