Rabies Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 I will use the combination of my UH-1 collective along side the Warthog throttles. The combination should suffice the clicking requirements whilst flying in VR.

Floyd1212 Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) Looks interesting, but they really need to up their game when it comes to both the ergonomics and functionality of that collective. Just saying. Have they seen the collective in the real Apache? Edited June 13, 2022 by Floyd1212
cordite Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 It was an unfortunate/terrible choice in name, but it has nothing to do with the AH-64 Apache. 1
dburne Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 (edited) Just got my new Virpil Collective with Alpha L Grip in three days ago, after spending most of that time adjusting to my liking I am becoming very fond of it. Pretty sure my landings have already improved some in the Apache as well as take offs. It took me a bit of trial and error of adjusting the thing for best ergonomics but I pretty much have it there now, and in fact spent several hours today just flying the Apache in the Persian Gulf instant action live fire range and had a blast. I would say only weakness in the Virpil Collective is in the friction plates. To get it to where it won't droop on you under all the weight it has in the front of the Rotor Base, means you have fairly significantly more force when pulling it up. After much adjusting I have it closer, but it is still like that and took me a bit of getting used to that. Overall though I am now very happy with the purchase especially now that I have adjusted to the force I know I will need to raise and lower the collective. Ideally Virpil could have designed it to where up and down collective had their own independent friction adjustments. But no idea what that would entail or how much it would cost. It would have been nice though. I also had ordered a Monster Tech mount for my AK Racing chair, and it is wonderful. Just loosen (not remove) two bolts to remove collective from mounting plate, and tighten two bolts when re-attaching. Very quick and easy. I can switch between my Collective Setup and Virpil CM3 throttle mounted to my desk with a Monster Tech desk mount, in 5 minutes or less which is very nice, and very easy. So alternating between my Apache and Hornet flying is not big deal at all. I will mention I just got the standard Collective from Virpil, not the Plus which has the twist throttle. Don't really need axis for the two throttles as they are easily bound to buttons in DCS for moving from off/idle to fly position. Works a treat, I just bound them to couple buttons on the Alpha L grip I have on the collective. To help prevent accidental presses of those buttons I used a modifier with them for the throttle movements. I did not think it would be worth an extra hundred bucks to have that twist axis on the collective. Just not needed, at least for me and the Apache it was not. Floyd1212 Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 That is the setup I have, as well. Highly recommended. The combination of buttons on the Alpha L grip (especially the thumbstick) and the action of the collective itself is a joy to use. You will likely need to tighten the clutch a few times over the next few days, then less often after that. I think VirPil could easily sell an optional adjustable counter weight for this setup so that the resistance was balanced in both directions. I would pay $$ for an extended cover plate to go on the outside that has slots machined in it and a weight you can slide back and forth to dial in the balance.

Yeah I am not much for home remedy's, so that would be a nice option. Thanks for the tip on probably needing to tighten a few times. Hope it is not too often. Hope no one has ever run out of being able to tighten appropriately. Cowboy10uk Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Best solution for an Apache collective. Well after receiving mine a few days ago, I will certainly state Komodo is the way forward. Why compromise when you can have a 1 to 1 replica. just got to learn how to use and fly the Apache now. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Fighter pilots make movies, Attack pilots make history, Helicopter pilots make heros. :pilotfly: Corsair 570x Crystal Case, Intel 8700K O/clocked to 4.8ghz, 32GB Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHZ Ram, 2 x 1TB M2 drives, 2 x 4TB Hard Drives, Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW, Maximus x Hero MB, H150i Cooler, 6 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans And a bloody awful Pilot

cordite Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 How’s the Komodo build quality? Someone on youtube states his “collective base” failed after getting out of warranty. That was several years ago, so maybe their gear has improved.

Never had an issue, I had the V1 base and UH1 collective for years, before upgrading to the V2 base as I wanted to purchase this collective as well. uh1 collective is still going strong and this one looks to be a winner as well. not had much of a chance to test yet due to rl getting in the way, but what little time I’ve had with it, I’m happy [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Fighter pilots make movies, Attack pilots make history, Helicopter pilots make heros. :pilotfly: Corsair 570x Crystal Case, Intel 8700K O/clocked to 4.8ghz, 32GB Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHZ Ram, 2 x 1TB M2 drives, 2 x 4TB Hard Drives, Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW, Maximus x Hero MB, H150i Cooler, 6 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans And a bloody awful Pilot
