Or to put it simply...they introduced a feature/code/enhancement that took a system that ran 50 fps to a 30 fps...however way you cut it it was THEY who caused the issue, not us...and I expect them to fix it on their end and not me having to go out and spend another (and I've done this twice now) large sum of money to run the same way I ran years ago on the same modules purchased.

Sorry if I prefer to not add to the ED dogpiling.

Pointing out to an introduced problem (which you also encountered) is not really dogpiling.
You just changed settings "outside" DCS to get it back to an enjoyable level. I don't call that a solution, just some sort of workaround to get you playing again (which is OK for the time being, just don't let loose of the rope, because you'll loose in the end if you do).

@Hiob I now tried it as well, and renamed the directory dcs.openbeta from Saved Games - which is then re-created. After setting up the right settings, and running my track, I have still my reduced framerate.

As I said, I can’t reproduce it anymore neither. Probably had some messed up settings in the first place or screwed up something else. Sorry guys!

I don't know why it's happened...

THIS^^ should actually now be the title for this thread!

Yup sorry for the confusion - "I got some frames (not all) back after creating a new saved games file and ....oh....theyve suddenly gone again for no reason " would probably be better.

i think this one of the reasons ED finds it so difficult to diagnose and replicate...

@BIGNEWY one thing i noticed that was different in your nvidia config, was the shader cache size... thats the only substantive difference? mine was set on driver default.. i have changed it to 10GB as yours and if i get a chance i will test it today ..

There is some graphical conflict, maybe related to shadows. DCS 2.7.7. runs significantly better with ground shadows on Default than on Flat.

so as you increase the quality of the shadow from None to Flat  to Default performance decreases.

I can confirm the same from my experience albeit not as scientifically. Be it shadows, view distances, textures. All goes as expected, with progressive reductions in performance as the quality increases.

Where is this shader cache? Ill give it a bash (once the new install of DCS has downloaded....so 2027 or thereabouts with my connection)

alas functionally no difference maybe .10 ms GPU frame time, but that is so close to noise as to be dangers assumptions wise... right now i need to prep for my new CPU and MB to arrive ...

Id stick to it. A quick look ariound the net doesnt bring anything especially encouraging. From what I can glean 256Mb is the driver default, reducing it may have limited benefits for faster cpus and increasing may have limited benefits for slower cpus....in theory....dependent upon the drives.....and if its a tuesday ....etc. . It goes back to the enable/disable cache debate I think which proved a rather pointless rabbit hole for me. It seems to be more about load time stutter too. Not overall fps.

Either way, the more I really look at NPC the more I feel leaving the majority of it alone works best. For me Disable Gamma correction for less AA on fences, Prefer max power, Allow LOD bias, Texure filtering AA optimisation off, Texture filter quality Performance, Texure filtering optimisation On ,everything else to set to use application setting.

Any of the setting are "niths" of an improvment, if at all.  The loss we an collectivley experienceing is well over that.

This is  no crtisism to anyone setting it however. I just think its very system dependent and more of a fine polish than a grindstone. .
