Boomer_G-Loc Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Hello; Recently I aquired a new HOTAS system consisting of a complete Thrustmaster M16000 stick, throttle, and rudder system. I swapped out the TM stick for a VKB Gladiator NXT Kosmosima stick. This works just fine, with each pair of periferrals appearently running off of separate .lua files in the aircraft folder. I have a separate lua file for the TWCS Throttle/Rudder combination, while the VKB stick runs off a separate VKBsim Gladiator lua file, and a separate USB port. The setup appears to run great, however, when I start to do the button and axis mapping, the computer, and game, start f-ing with me in the following way - I map the buttons and axis and get them running beautifully. Once I get a good running copy, I copy each lua file under a backup name, so that if anything goes wrong with the origional, I can just delete the bad copy, duplicate my backup and rename it to the working file name, which is some terribly long name involving the company and product name along with a long string of numbers. I copy/paste the original file name back into the duplicate file name, and then everything works just peachy again. Or used to. Problem is, now, when I copied the VKBsim Gladiator lua files, the copies appeared to have exactly the same names as the originals. So I would rename them with a new "copy of...." prefix and be done with it. But then, when I would sub in the new file with the newer key and axis mapping, the newer files won't work, it keeps reverting back to the very first default mappings for the joystick. (...and joystick only, the throttle/rudders still work fine....) It doesn't happen for the throttle/rudder part with the TWCS lua file, just the Gladiator stick lua part. Then, after staring at the files in the folder for awhile, I realize that every time the game makes and saves a lua file for the VKB Gladiator stick, it adds a white space character " " (space-bar hit) to the beginning of the Gladiator lua file name. (It does not do this for any other of my gaming periferrals.) Now, as soon as I copy that file, or re-name it, or do anything at all with it, the computer strips off that initial " " space character and won't let me save the file again with that empty character at the front of the name..... The Problem is..... that DCS will ONLY run the VKBsim lua file if it has that blank empty space at the head of the rest of the file name for the VKB Gladiator stick. So, if anything happens to that One Working Copy that I originally wrote and was using for the game, then it is lost, and I have to start all over again from scratch. The copy backup scheme doesn't work for the VKB stick. (It does work for everything else, previously I used a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and a Thrustmaster.) Anybody know what to do here? I can't replace the VKB lua files with an empty space character at the head of the file name to get my stick functions back, and it took me several days to get everything set up right in it. I have the completed file, but I just can't get it to save with the necessary name in order for DCS to run it for me....Or get DCS to stop adding that pesky blank space character at the head of the file name. Alternatively, I can't get DCS to run the file WITHOUT it having that blank space at the head of it's name, either. Thank You in advance for helping with this very annoying problem....
Taz1004 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 You can rename the controller in registry. \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\ And click on each of the folders to find the VKB and rename the OEMName Can't guarantee if this will mess up anything else however. MAXsenna Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Have you tried save/export instead? Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk
draconus Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 It might be some other character rather than space. Can you copy it and paste? And I recommend using in game import/export as MaxSenna says not doing magic tricks with copying the files and renaming them. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Baldrick33 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Not at my PC now but I believe an “ideographic space” will work, this is achieved by pressing the Alt key and 3000 on the num key pad 1 AMD 5800X3D · MSI 4080 · Asus ROG Strix B550 Gaming · HP Reverb Pro · 1Tb M.2 NVMe, 32Gb Corsair Vengence 3600MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · VIRPIL T-50CM3 Base, Alpha Prime R. Thank you for posting! Same problem here. With VKB controllers too. Leading space in the device name which has been giving me grief!
HawkEXO Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I cannot load profiles into my controllers like before. When I try to select the template file for import, it says "file does not exist". Anyone else seeing this? I was able to import the same files last month just fine. 1
Flappie Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 (edited) Does the same issue happen when you try to import an image or an audio file from the mission editor? If so, meet your friends of misfortune here. Edited April 1, 2022 by Flappie ---
