SOLVED: Disable Loading Screen (for VR) - New MOD

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The loading screen is one of the most annoying parts of DCS in VR. It starts to flicker and jitter wildly within the VR headset. This is likely caused due to performance spikes during loading, and resulting dropped frames.

An easy fix would be to allow VR users to disable all loading screens and have the game just render a black scene.

UPDATE: FIX released as mod https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/de/files/3319867/

UPDATE 2: Now also includes empty/black VR Hangar in main menu and map. As a bonus, loading time is increased and switching to F10 map ingame is faster

Hi,

there is hope once we have multicore working in full the loading process and the loading screen can be done on different cores which should make it a better experience.

fingers crossed for now.

Well that's good but the outlook of 6+ months of loading screen torture isn't too great.

In the meantime I would rather dig through the game files and replace the loading screens with black textures.

You could just close your eyes for a minute and go to your inner happy place.

There's an option in steamVR settings that will grey out such disturbances, but the bad part is you may experience that while your flying if your frames have a sudden hiccup.

is there a publicly updated timeline for multicore? I had seen Q3 of this year but obviously that had to be pushed.

I910900K, 4090, 32gb,Varjo Aero, no compromises: all VR all the time.

I found out its quite easy to mod this. Such an improvement for the whole VR experience.

Just copy 3 files, backup the original files before overwriting if you like.

1) Save this file in your aircraft folder as loading-window.png in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\F-14 VUX v2.2\Mods\aircraft\F14\skins\ME

2) Save this file as loading-window.png in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\MissionEditor\images

3) Save this file as training-window.png in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F14\Skins\ME

We had a recent newsletter with updated information, work is going well and will continue to 2022 https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/newsletters/newsletter15102021-44zqxztcc5wrzd40qw4c8srq1r1almua.html

I dont think it would. These are just loading screens that other mods change as well.

Here are also the loading bar fixes to make them more pleasurable in VR

These go to

FWIW, this only happens for me when using Steam for VR (in IL2 as well). It doesn't happen when using the native Oculus API for VR (in this case, the screen freezes and there is a little hourglass spinning on the side, much less jarring). Just thought I'd mention that in case it's helpful for anyone.

Apologies for what is perhaps a stupid question..

How exactly do I install this mod manually (I don't use a mod manager)?

I've downloaded the mod, copied the various files to (what I think is) their required homes. However, the hangar still appears for me in VR?

Hi,

Installing Mods manually, particularly those that don’t go into /saved games/, is not a good idea, as at the first DCS issue that you encounter in the future you will want to uninstall all Mods while you diagnose the issue, and manual uninstall is usually much harder than installing it on the first place … investing a bit of time on learning to use a Mod Manager is well worth it, in my opinion of course.

Simply extract the zip. Then move these folders to your C:\Users... Saved Games\DCS.openbeta folder
