Don't just turn textures down, turn default medium or low on, that's what I did and it immediately cured the problem.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for anyone else.

It looks horrible, but if it works then you can start increasing stuff until it fails again.

I'm still 100% clean using this mission every day.

Settings. Vsync fast. Max frames. 13 Yo pc.

In my case, it works and with different settings than yours. Then it's about the textures. Sure

Just down the textures to medium and most of the problem disappears.

I believe the mod is excellent; however, it should be the developer's or ED's responsibility to address the issue but If after two years there has been no action taken (not even an approach to the thread)...

If it doesn't pass IC, it's not a solution for all of us.
That's true! We can hope for enough traction and attention of the "fix", and ED might do something about it!

Ah Crud. I thought the core dcs vram fix of the last update had made a difference cause my 2 test missions worked perfectly. 😀

But when I tried a full mission the stepped fps drop came back 😪. Then when I tried my test missions again the step was back in those too 😪.

😡

Back to square 1.

Every patch I grow more confident that it's not a VRAM issue...

It might get worse with elevated VRAM usage, but it's not the core issue.

It’s probably a manifold cluster of things. It seems like every third party has different tricks they have to learn to overcome the DCS scenery system.

Seems like they have to build what they want, then work backward to find all the inefficiencies and sneaky invisible performance eaters. I suspect there is little in the way of proofing tools provided for them to catch stuff before it’s out in the world.

You are very likely correct.

After the Winter update to the SA map I got at least 40mins trouble free having deleted the fxo and metashaders2 folders first. But when I landed the problem came back again and stayed. 🙁

Yup, I still have the 900ft AGL frame reduction.

Out of curiousity, has anyone who has this problem tested Kola to see if the problem is also evident on that map?  I'm desperate for a map that isn't mostly sand and rock, but I am not really willing to risk having this bug on two maps.

The Kola map is fantastic. And I haven't noticed the FPS hits like we got on the SA map where you might lose 50%+ of your FPS down low. On Kola I'll lose +/-15% way down low, but all in all I'm happy with the performance and it's pretty much my favourite map now.

Thanks for that positive report, I'll add it to my inventory soon.  🙂

Yes, my experience is similar. I lose approximately 15% occasionally, and is more stable than SA.

I was out in an F4 over the Falklands yesterday, with textures set to med..  No 900’ issue.
In VR, I really couldn’t tell a difference to the interior of the F4, though maybe there is if you pixel peep.  Either way, it’s a compromise that I’m happy to use.
Using Med also resolved the performance issues with the Chinook.

It really is worth giving it a try

Thanks! I'll give it a try. Will suck when I forget to change back on older modules.

I did the perftest without problems some time ago. But then again I use med textures.

Anyway, I like the look and feel of the updated SA map. Unfortunately this came with a small perf penalty.

With my settings I could achieve 90fps of my G2 most of the time with very occasional microstutters with the previous version. Those microstutters seem to have become visibly more frequent now with the updated version. Both winter and summer.

Tried with medium settings. Of course I gained performance while it look really <profanity>e. We need reworked textures. That's for sure.

Tried the new snow version with an F4 on my AA mission containing 25 targets.

Settings on High except for Unit Textures which are on Medium to eliminate the 900' gremlin.

Stanley runway 50 fps. Low level 70 fps. High alt 80-90 fps. With only 4 targets, add 10 fps. No stutter.

The following pics are with ssao and sslr on but I usually have them off.

I've upgraded from a 3080 to a 4080S.

My experience has improved a bit (at least I can now set the textures to high). Stanley runway 49-70 fps. Low level 70-80 fps. High alt 80-90 fps. There is still a bump below 900 feet but there is less stuttering now and it doesn't go below 45-48 FPS when looking sideways below 900 ft.

If you try to land on a carrier, there is a very strong jerk at 900 ft. It is quite uncomfortable. There is a moment when it stuttering and you donw from 70-80 to 45-60 fps almost immediately. I still think it is a map problem, not a hardware problem

I see it as a map problem too, but luckily in my case, it was solved with 1 setting alteration and I have no frame drop below 900' anymore and no stuttering or noticable difference in quality.

100% clean since Aug 31st 2024.

More power also seems to work for some, especially with VR.

Yes, downgrading textures with the 3080 works in to a certain extent but it did not solve the stuttering problem and low FPS.

Despite the latest updates, the problem is still present and it seems that the developers continue to ignore the issue. A few months ago Mr_sukebe posted a very interesting post about this in one of the several threads on this issue.

Dropping settings probably helps mitigate the issue enough to mask it. But people with 4090s on flat screens still suffer it.

The incorrect sea-level height on the map from Mr_sukebe makes total sense as it is always 900ft AGL even if you are at the top of a mountain. If that is the problem surely that can't be too hard a fix???
