Both the coolant and oil temperatures peg  shortly after takeoff in P-51 Challenge Campaign.

Repeatable every time

Issue does not occur in training takeoff mission

Boost                           = 50psi,
Ram Air                        = open (via clickabledata.lua per Dawgerks)
Game Flight Mode      = checked
Game Avionics Mode  = unChecked
Auto Rudder                = checked
Take-Off Assistance   = 0

Issue does not occur when Game Flight Mode and Auto Rudder are unChecked.  This may be because airspeed stays low (below 150mph) with Game Flight and Auto Rudder checked.   This is still an issue as new users (such as myself) would likely have these checked.

Fly faster or use lower power setting. Climbing with 110 mph is not going to give you a lot of cooling. Also opening the radiators manually might help in that case.

@spinCycle Generally, game flight mode is incomplete, buggy and poorly supported in this sim. At one point last year developers were even considering dropping it completely, because it seems to be causing more harm than good. As soon as you get a basic feel of how to fly the plane, I'd recommend unchecking the mode, because it will only teach you bad habits and force you to re-learn many of airplane handling aspects later from scratch again.

For now you can try to fly with rads manually full open, but I don't think it wil help much. The cooling system is supposed to work efficiently above 170 mph IAS and that's that.

@spinCycle small correction Manifold pressure in P-51 is in inHg not in psi and it is absolute pressure so when engine is not running it will show 30 inHg.

50 inch of MP it will be about 10psi boost or 24psi absolute pressure in manifold.

at 110mph you are very close to stall speed, it is very slow, cooling system will not cool engine at this speed.

After take off you accelerate to 170-180 mph and put plane in to climb.

As @Art-J said, i highly recommend to drop Game Flight Mode immediately.

Thanks for the drop Game Flight Mode advice.  I do not yet have rudder  pedals and am using T.1600 paddles on the throttle.  This is proving a challenge.  However, I am getting better.

Try to adjust the curves for paddle rudder. I use paddle for zoom and the middle between max and min is all over the place. By the way, I just started using pedals. They too, prove to be a challenge. I always thought the twist was the way. After all, your hands are more coordinated than your feet.

Also turn off auto rudder. Just use the paddles with about a 10-15 curve.

The auto rudder will fight you. As an alternative, set take off assistance to 40-50.

I just bought TFRP pedals.  The sticktion is a challenge.  I'm finding it difficult to make fine movements.   At this point, I have all aids off.

Is it better to use a curve or saturation to make the pedals less sensitive?
In combat, do you watch the slip instrument to co-ordinate turns or do you just have some sort of feel?

Thanks for the help.

🙂 In combat your eyes need to be outside the cockpit. It’s better to make uncoordinated turns and know where the enemy is than to have your eyes in the pit, make the perfect turn, and not know where he went.

@spinCycle - you can also try some dead zone. i found that my feet would move a little and would cause little movements in the rudder. its not so bad in flight but on the ground, especially in a warbird, can mean chaos. it also took me some time to get the hang of ground travel with the F16. #tippytippy

Again, thanks for the help guys. 🙂
Do any of you use the TFRP.  If so, where do you place your feet:
full foot on pedals,
half foot on pedals,
toe on pedals?
For me the problem is fine rudder inputs where stiction causes overshoot.

@spinCycle - i use TFRP. i got the set of stick, throttle and pedals. i put my feet on the pedals with heels on the little bar. i try to wear light shoes or socks. heavy shoes do not give me the feel of the movements.

Don't forget to open the oil cooler as well.  LAlt+S to open, LCtrl+S to close.

Try not to let the oil temp get too low either. Try to keep it in the middle range

by alternately opening and closing the cooler.
