I don't see why people get to a level of pessimism where they unironically think it won't come out next year. Pessimistic view earlier this year was that it was going to come out at the very end of December or maybe as late as Feb. Then they announce "Some delays but we're still gunning for 2022." and now it's "Late next year, if not two or three more." I know some, if not most of the comments like that are jokes, but for it to take that long to come out Heatblur would have to be lying through their teeth.

And I get it "Where are the pictures???????", I get it, but the policy was laid out clearly from the start. We get the pictures and serious big boy updates when it's about to release - which I'm making the gamble on being no later than Q2 next year, but that's my pessimistic view where I'd be kind of ticked at HB. Q1 I think is more realistic, absolute latest first month of Q2.

Anything past Q2 color me genuinely surprised, and wondering if HB had been all that truthful and if they're deserving of my cash without a VERY indepth explanation of what's gone wrong.

I'm tellin ya. Its just going to appear on the market one day and that's it. No other release videos. It'll be pure chaos.

It's also probably going to be Christmas morning, so while the kids run to the tree for presents we run to the computer to start downloading.

One could only wish that a December 30th release would happen. Seems to be more likely that a BS3 release will be seen this month.

I am pretty sure we will find out one way or another in four weeks whether we get it this year or not. One thing I am 90% certain of, it's that we will get some sort of statement or news sometime the next three weeks before the holidays starts. 
A part of me wishes that we get it after the new year because if we get it before the holidays it's gonna ruin my social life this Christmas.

Pessimism for the sake of pessimism is only going to put you in a bad mood. This is a much more mature and experienced HB team.  And besides, you should know to take goals with a grain of salt unless ED themselves are hocking pre-orders.

Its not being "Pessimism for the sake of pessimism". There is a track record of this happening on DCS over the years...How many aircraft have been in development with promises of a soon release that just vanish and are never seen or heard from again? And just because HB seems to be more together than some developers dose not make them immune from such things...I truly hope that it is released soon and maybe it will be .However, I see zero evidence that is the case and even at the start of when they made the announcement nearly a year ago there was nothing to show where things stood or at what stage things were at. I understand world events did throw a huge wrench in their plans if indeed their 2022 release date was truly a real thing but making expectations and then leaving people in the dark is not the way I would do things....Thats just the way I see it any time now in the next few weeks we will hopefully know one way or the other. If they hold to their word about at least making a official statement.

Yes, hence why the maxim of "everything is subject to change" is bandied about with such frequency in these circles. And a few have disappeared, but those what disappear usually have dozens of red flags or never get the sign off by ED to begin with. Plus, if they never come out? You didn't part with money for it. I mean, unless you pre-ordered the P-40F from VEAO. Sympathies if that is the case.

But, I fail to see how that's relevant in regards to the F-4 Phantom by Heatblur. We're talking about a developer who has multiple releases. Delays happen, they honestly do. As I said, never believe in a release window unless it's pretty specific instead of something as vague as a year.
 

Why they haven't made a statement about it, yet? I can't say. Probably because it'd just confirm what we already know, really. At any rate, I'd rather F-4E drop in 2023 than get another F-16 release debacle.

They should at least open the preorders. I think that they won't make it this year. That's fine and all, but I could really use the preorder discount. The economy is not conductive to having money to spare, and my country already gets shafted on currency exchange.

Do third-party developers offer pre-orders? I thought I remember reading that wasn’t a thing anymore.

I hope it's up to the 3rd party, I recall someone here saying it'll be a thing with the F-4 when the question came up some time ago. Recent releases didn't do it, which is a shame (the Mirage got an early discount, but it was more expensive for me than the Tomcat at full price due to currency shenanigans).

Practically every country is getting shafted these days but I will pre-purchase the F-4 discount or not (I need my escapism). Sure hope that the pre-orders open soon as that is at least a sign of an pending release

It would certainly be neat to see. I doubt the devs would want to jump the gun on a pre-order though. We still don't know how close they really are to releasing it so if there are still some major hurdles to get through, past the situation going on in Ukraine and whatever else that may pop up, there could be delays that take this into late 2023 or further.


But if they did do a pre-order rather early, I would still get it in a heartbeat. If they wanted to do pre-orders but ended up being delayed a few months, similarly to the Apache, I think it'd be fine overall since we at least would get a overall decent release and some time for people to quell over whether they want to do the pre-order or not.

Some do. HB did for the F-14.
