I have tried a 48" TV, my daughter benefited from that experiment 🙂

I tend to focus more on the sensation of flying than being competitive in combat, so you might think non combat sims would be more appealing to me but I just find DCS hits the spot in VR.

I tend to spent more time "just flying" than "blowing stuff up" as well, and I DO, from time to time, fire up my Index. But still, I can't get hooked. That's life - different things appeal to different people.... 🙂 As long as nobody gets religious about it..... 😬🙈

DCS really needs a graphics overhaul . Roll on Vulkan . Lets hope it makes VR a better place to be .

I’m sure it will be great, but with OpenXR DCS looks pretty amazing imho until you turn on motion smoothing.

If they can find a way to have motion smoothing on but keep the clarity of when it’s off we’ll all be very happy I think. Will make the wait for Vulcan/multithreading much more bare-able.

One complaint I do have about VR in general is that it’s not great when the weather gets nice. Not only does it get rather sweaty but it just feels a bit wrong to completely disappear into a virtual world on a lovely summers day. Makes me feel a bit like Gollum. At least with a monitor you can look out the window from time to time. 🙂

for several summers a cheap $5 usb fan placed in front of me has served me well. It died a few weeks ago.
Then I bought a much more expensive $25 rechargable fan with double outlet which hangs around my neck. Pretty convenient too

I do not disappear.

I simply hide in the VR from my wife and children

Don't hide too long from the children - trust me they grow up into families of their own way too fast.

I’m not sure about the Q2 but it works with the G2. Check out the threads in this sub forum on OpenXR. 🙂

Yes it works with the q2, just a slightly different setup compared to wmr I think.

yeah no vr user can see the keyboard, but we feel it instead. Its very doable, don´t limit yourself.
the very same with trackir you don´t stare at your hotas to operate.

A properly setup HOTAS is key, minimizes the keystrokes needed.  I have the TM Warthog (throttle, the stick is a force-sensing modded Cougar base with the Warthog stick), but also use the TM MFDs x3 and have velcro on all of the middle buttons which aids in finding things quickly by touch.

How does this work when I use the Oculus2 link cable?  I mean, I still need to run the Oculus PC software to use the link cable so how does that mix with say OpenXR?

It works well but just take in mind you have to run DCS on SteamVR mode to make it work

It doesn't run steamvr, you just have to tell oculus that you're going to use steamvr (the openvr runtimes) and then open composite hijacks it along the way and bypasses steamvr 🙂

I haven said that you have to run SteamVR but run DCS ON STEAMVR mode, quite different 🙂

I'm also torn about this.

On one had i absolutely love the graphics and smoothness off 2D. Can pretty much max it out @ 4k and get solid 60 fps with amazing details.

With VR i absolutely have to use motion smoothing, crawling at 40 fps kills the immersion and makes me horribly sea sick, looking at the ground when flying low everything appears in 2. With motion smoothing its nice and smooth but with it VR looks like absolute garbage, can barely read displays or hud and even then you have to look right at it. But the immersion is just way too good to give up.

Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.

I'm not sure on the specifics, it should be a case of run the switcher and then set oculus to use steamvr. I think it's possible to get the openxr toolkit to work with the quest as well.

Might be worthwhile having a search of the Openxr thread as there are people who have implemented it on there, alternatively have a search of the discord channel.

I doubt reprojection blurryness cant get much better, at the end it´s just the PC guessing what will be the next frame, if you the micromovementes due the headset tracking its even worse, but what i think can get better its the HUD and, above all, the helmet mounted sights has Scorpion, as they look horrible with reprojection an it shouldnt as they are fixed to our head

I can understand Gizzy very well. Been testing VR quite a lot. Owned a Rift S, G1 and 2 (Ver 1 and 2) and an Index. Up to OpenXR found VR too much of a comprimise. With OpenXR and G2-Ver2 its somehow ok. But far from great. Graphics are now ok, but 45fps fixed are not great, although acceptable.

Right now I run Open in VR and Stable in 2D.

I have a 38inch 2560*1440 monitor and still enjoy 2D. Even Im mostly in VR nowadays going back to 2D is still a very positiv experience for me.

With my hardware I manage 45fps with decent settings in VR, I can do 120fps on monitor with the odd CPU-related drops to 50fps. Way smoother and way better graphics. A weaker GPU to have steady 60fps with TrackIR still would be smoother than anything I witnessed on VR up to now. Only the the TrackIR-related reduced headmovement feels a bit strange now compared to VR.

Right now I think Ill stay in VR for the most part. But I went from 3 months on the Rift S back to 2D for about a year. So thats not fixed at all I guess. Maybe if a 40inch curved 120Hz 4K monitor finally gets released.....
