You don't need a very fast internet connection to play multiplayer

Well apparently you need a fast enough connection to download or update the game in a reasonable time. Maybe work on solving that problem first.

Not true, there is no stable version in DCS. Let the professional explain it to you :

And to put us 12-24 months behind the newest release as a solution, seems absurd to me. Other metrics should be also adjusted then, for even considering to take this kind of a step-back.

The current stable version was released in October, the sixth release in 2022, so your 12-24 months comment is wildly incorrect.

The issue with using Open Beta is it can change more frequently and at times that impacts multiplayer as servers and clients transition and are out of sync. Having a known quantity that changes less frequently and has any show stopper bugs squashed would resolve that. Players will go into multiplayer post open beta patch with no knowledge if changes to say missile systems will affect the balance of aircraft nor if their PC will crash when they hit fire. Whilst stable may not be 100% stable it has gone through the layer of open beta testing before being promoted.

Now as stated the desire to have what some consider vital improvements which have been incorporated into open beta are considered worth the risk. Yet there needs to be an understanding and acceptance of those risks. Be it servers being out of sync version wise, or game breaking bugs two hours into a complex multiplayer mission.

I think it is generally understood but there will always be those who choose to complain - when running a beta version.

Honestly, the fact the likely the majority of players put in more time flying on weekends vs during the week (SP or MP) is a good argument for NOT delaying a Friday release.  ED usually aims for Weds or Thurs but sometimes it slides back to Friday.  If they then waited until Monday, they've just delayed a lot of testing hours for a week, so especially oddball issues are going to be delayed being found and development will continue and then they'll have to circle back and figure it out.

for future reference, never post angry and treat everyone here with respect please.

As I understand your group has your own server? Don't update your server immediately before clan ops. When ED drops an update has exactly nothing to do with when YOU actually need to update. Tell everybody to take their time updating through the next week. If your admin ignores this, then take it up with him.

If you're using other people's servers, coordinate with your group to play on unupdated servers, or start your own, or whatever.

When ED drops an update is irrelevant. It's entirely up to the community itself when and how to apply them. I haven't updated since the last 2.7 update.

Organise with your buddies, that's the solution here. It's nobody else's concern.

I wasn’t even aware that updates always come on Fridays.

But they don't, which makes the original request even less justified. Long ago ED announced they would aim at Wednesdays as default OB update day. Well, truth to be told these more often than not slip to Thursdays, but last Friday was really an exception. That's why, even though I get OP's squad argument, latest OB release delay was unfortnate, but not really common thing.

I'm sorry but the logic of your train of thought makes too much sense and puts the responsibility on the party in question. How dare you ask that of an individual in 2022!

Dear fellow simmers, it's been quite a ride this whole topic, yet I don't think we came far. It is turning into a fight for advantage as I see it and for who is a bigger fish in a tank. Clearly narrative here is that multiplayer community is the smaller one here and that they should carry the burden. While I see it from a different perspective and give more weight to a group of people doing stuff together, while the single player group individuals are playing to their own apetites not willing to delay few functions, neither bugs that come with it, not even for two-three days (don't forget, that multiplayer community also likes new stuff, we just like to get together online more). I still think we could be more balanced and supportive toward each others interests and the developer should plan actions in this direction. I know there is a lot of work put in to this, and the developers are also human, eager to show public their great achievements, and they have a good reason to do so, still some hard rules on release days could be introduced, or client/server cross-compatibility trough versions should be adjusted. One can turn my facts around anytime to bash me for his own advantage, but there is no progress for the community as a whole in that, and please go trough the whole thread befor giving me the advice how to arrange my or squadrons actions, schedule, as this is not a better solution for this subject, but more like taking an aspirin for healing purposes. It doesnt even matter if I have or am in the squadron, we don't need to get that close... It's about a player not being able to update in time to participate on the multiplayer when he/she has the most quality time to do so.

To add that that two-year old video is still relevant to this date, as there is no point of releasing a stable version each month. It actually solves nothing on this topic.

And yes updates don't always come on friday, but it sucks for some people when they do.

Lets not forget that we learn how to fly aircraft here, so we should consider ourselves as an advanced users, not needed to be pointed toward selection to the one of the two buttons on the gui.

Best regards.

It didn't really start very well - " No BIG updates on FRIDAYS anymore please  -The title says it all."

Assertive posts with capitalisation for emphasis to make demands tend to draw assertive responsives from those who may not agree with the premise.

I think the rationale for why updates should not be delayed beyond the weekend due to the numbers that will be able to benefit from it and speed up the process for feedback to progress the development have been well stated.

I believe it is also understood that mid week updates are the developer's preference just that sometimes that isn't possible.

I believe most of us want to see DCS World develop at the fastest possible pace within the bounds of what we might consider acceptable risk.

Of course this is also a multiplayer game which has a devoted following for whom an incredible amount of effort goes into organising their time together, which is a great experience. In mine (and others) opinion on this thread that effort would extend to patch management and doesn't seem an unreasonable task.

From my personal experience of running in sim racing online leagues for over a decade, the majority of which I was the league admin, I would see that as a necessary and relatively trivial task.

Not all of us have cushy 9-5 jobs. I'll take the updates as and when. I understand the frustration regarding MP, but I think much of that has to do with combating online cheating; it's simpler to at least ensure everyone is on the same version before doing deeper checks.

Agreed. Since the issue itself can be trivially resolved by everyone in the group (have a 'only update on Monday' policy, regardless of when ED drops the update), and affects a small percentage (low bandwidth online users) of a small percentage (MP players), and OP appeared to be both unusually assertive and surprisingly aggressive in tone, I belatedly concluded for myself that OP is trolling.

It's quite inconceivable to me that ED would have postponed the Ka-50 III release (and sales) until after the week-end simply to ensure that an (assumed) 0.01% share of low-end users who can't get their act sufficiently together to schedule updates can play over the week-end. So yeah, I deem this thread to be a high-probability trolling event.

This thread has run its course so I will clarify the facts for you

Open beta is a public test build and always will be.

Stable version means just that, it is a stable as it can be. We use open beta to find as many of the show stopping issues or crashes as we can, but it can still contain bugs.

Generally we aim for a Wednesday patch, but a patch can come anytime we deem it necessary, our development is constant and dynamic, we have to be flexible.

While we appreciate your concerns about when we should patch and when we should not you do not have the full picture of the development cycle and tasks, the team do and they will always make the best choice for our development needs and product stability.

thank you
