That’s disappointing to hear… The current spotting is so annoying I don’t do anything but free flights, just to keep the basic skills alive.

We have said we are still working on the dots, we want a system that takes different VR devices into account when applying spotting dots. I hope we can share some in the next patch but I am afraid we will have to wait some more.

Please take your time and do some great realistic spotting system for everyone to be happy

But please again reconsider making a hotfix to at least give us some option to turn off blobs, fat dots, dot labels, whatever pepole call it. Many users (look at my poll - over 62% users are not happy with the last change) are forced into blobs - unrealistic visibility ranges, ugly and unrealistic looking blocks. It changes the game play. It changes realistic attack profiles and behaviors. Instead of searching for target I already see it from far away. It's pointless to use modern sensors like radar or tgp to find a target - I use it only to point my weapon on the target now. No skill needed. No search patterns. Just like forced labels on. It's not DCS standard anymore. You can see it has nothing to do with some bold cheating accusations - I want to hadicap my vision from this. You want to ignore big part of users for the next months? Don't you have enough PR hot subjects already?

Hi, we are aware of the feedback but thank you for the poll.

We wont be having a hotfix, but we are looking to make changes in the next patch, I am currently helping the team tweak VR settings internally.

thanks

I'm happy, as I now can turn them off in 2D, and the "dots" I see work very well for ME. While I do support the notion to be able to turn them off in VR, I didn't respond in the poll, as none of the options suits me.

So if I understand well.. we have to swallow a system that a lot of us won't need and that clearly isn't working as intended and wait for parches that are at minimum some weeks away and that could or not improve that system.. that's great.

That basically sums it up 🙃

Hey, at least this gives me an excuse to fly trainers again: free flights in heavy weather with such small aircraft is fun too! There's an upside to everything, right? 😉

Well, to be fair, you did say this in a different post...

...not really "everyone", but still a blanket statement.

And for the record, I agree there needs to be an option to turn them off. But with what I'm seeing at this stage, I would not do that.

So you wouldn't allow people like me to enjoy DCS just because...

So ED is gonna torture us with the experiments instead giving us the patch while waiting for appropriate solution.
Nice work.

I’ve used them in my work but not for gaming or flight sims. For me personally they seen to have too many performance issues and problems like this topic for me to consider going that route.

Sure, spotting planes or ground targets is hard. In RL and in HiRes VR. But imagine a flight of four coming your way. In my G2 I don't see a dot but a big black square incoming.... How immersive is that.
OR this I'm heading to bomb a camp, hidden in a forest area. I can see it from 7 miles without the need of TGP

How about this solution:

Give us three options:

OFF, MANUAL and AUTO.

Auto would be ED's tinkering with spotting dots and manual something like a slider or a value (size and/or range) so everyone could adjust to their likening.

And server side enforcement of that option would be a good one. Or even a Must have. With this I believe that every user would be happy. From hardcore simmers to gamers who just want to shoot stuff.

Best regards

While I agree with this the trouble with making the spotting dots a mission setting and configurable makes them nearly identical to dot labels. Hence there is no need for both options. So just combine the features of the spotting dots such as being hidden by other objects into the dot labels and get rid of them as a separate feature altogether.

Currently, for me that label dot is smaller and even more realistic and better solution than this "dot".
I'm just saying give people the option

I recall them looking identical for me (4K screen) but it’s ridiculous if the spotting dot is a bigger game aid than the label.

I'm sure a hot fix will come to turn of the blobs .

I'm hoping ED are testing across all makes of VR headsets not just the ones that DCS is advertising With 15% off .

Finally tested it for myself and yes the spotting dots can be turned “off” (or changed back to v2.8) in 2D

My team and I only fly formation right now.
Even that looks awful if someone leave formation for a bit.
I can clearly see the shape of the plane from a few miles and also a big black square hovering above its cockpit.
If that is not a label, I don't know what is.

Are you quite sure you're not actually seeing a label?

This is what you see in VR with the "Improved" Spotting Dots with no way to turn them off. This is not an exaggeration. It is not a label. It's a disaster for anyone playing in VR not using a Pimax Crystal (which "For a limited time only, use code DCS2024 when purchasing your Crystal Light to receive a credit of 15,000 ED Miles, worth $15 at checkout in the DCS e-shop!") per: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/a41b9e43c3c80f1fa3be25612a9c1db3/  🤨

Exactly. That kind of screenshot shows perfectly that is a fucking square putting in front of models, so thats the reason for my question. Why is not easy to deactivate? I do not understand...

That's som bat <profanity> crazy long distance plane porn censorship. "Get in close, so we know you mean business!". Seriously though, how did you make that screenshot? Mig-15? And where's that vulcano in the background?

And to be fair. There are disappointed Pimax users reporting the same issue.

You spotted that too? It's definitely in Marianas (Pagan Island). Just put some big smoke in the crater and you have it active - brilliant
