MadKreator Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Crashing on exiting the game only , here. 8 or 9 times out of 10. Sent crash report each time. No “Mods” installed. I do run helios though. Will post a log next time it happens. KoleTang Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Crash on exiting here as well. No mods. New with latest release.
II.JG1_Vonrd Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 (edited) Still crashing on exit 90% of time. Crashed once when I had left the game idle while cooking dinner. Returned to find crash notice. Every crash I have to use Task Manager to end process. I considered transferring a load of the game from my other PC but the folder is so large that I don't have available space on any of my external drives. I would much prefer to fix the current install. I tried a fresh install on my other drive on this machine from the DCS site but it started copying everything from my current installation. How can I make a fresh install without deleting my current one? Here's the last logs, Debrief log included. I'm going to post additional logs daily as they occur. Maybe there will be similarities apparent which might lead to the culprit. All mods (as far as I know) are disabled by OVGME. Should I make a backup of the contents of Saved Games on the other drive and then delete the contents of the current Saved Games/DCS Open Beta folder and run the game to re-populate it? dcs.log debrief.log Edited December 25, 2023 by II.JG1_Vonrd
Flappie Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 Simpler: Browse to Saved Games. Rename your current DCS.openbeta folder into "DCS.openbeta.bak" (do NOT delete it). Run DCS: it will create a virgin DCS.openbeta folder. Exit DCS. Your custom controls are stored in DCS.openbeta.bak/Config/Input. Now, simply copy this Input folder into the new DCS.openbeta/Config folder in order to retrieve your controls. Then find out if DCS keeps crashing. 1 ---

I also created an empty Mods folder. I'm enabling mods from OVGME one at a time and so far, none have issues. It worked... no more crashes and I have lost none of my settings. It looks like I had some problematic folders / files in there, for example: Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Bazar\shaders\model\functions which contained the file "glass.hlsl". I have no idea where that came from. Maybe a reminant on one of the "Clear Glass" mods. Anyway, I'm just happy for no more crashing. Edited December 26, 2023 by II.JG1_Vonrd
MadKreator Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 So mine seems to have been solved.. so far. I said I don’t have any mods… in the typical sense of user created aircraft, assets etc. I do use several scripts though( which I suppose are “mods”) . Helios, SRS, DCS Scratchpad, The Way, PW-DEV ( DCS-UFC/ DCS NAV) and now Olympus… After some testing, deleting, trying things out one by one. I ended up removing DCS-UFC and DCS Scratchpad scripts from Saved Games and haven’t had a crash on exit since. In 20-30 ish times firing it up. 1 Intel i7 13700k, ASUS rog strix z790A, 64gigs G.Skill Trident DDR5 @6400Mhz, Nvidia RTX 4080FE, 4TB, 2x 2TB, 1TB Samsung NVME, 1TB Samsung SSD, Corsair RM1000x, Corsair Titan 360 X AIO cooler, Lian Li LanCool 2, VKB Gunfighter Ultimate, VKB Custom STECS , MFG Crosswinds, Moza FFB, Virpil Collective, Track IR5, 48” LG UltraGear OLED & HP 24” touchscreen for Helios,49” Samsung Ultrawide, Streamdeck XL, Corsair Virtuoso RGB Headphones
petsild Posted December 29, 2023 Author Posted December 29, 2023 Even a clean install did not help to solve the crashes, the latest beta build behaves unstable. MadKreator Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 I lied, got another crash on exit.. at least its only on exit, never during the game. Just the one after an hour long mission or so. petsild Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 Hi, I've tried various tricks of tweaking Windows or Nvidia settings and nothing has any effect on the crash. Since the last one I have over 50 failures mainly in MP, but I can also force in SP on a clean map. Wostg Posted February 25, 2024 Posted February 25, 2024 Hi I have no idea whether this your issue, but crashing at exit stopped entirely for me after commenting out theway in export.lua, worth a test if you haven't tried. I can think of nothing heavier than an airplane I can think of no greater conglomerate of steel and metal I can think of nothing less likely to fly
Solution Comrade Doge Posted February 25, 2024 Solution Posted February 25, 2024 Hello everyone, the issue was found, it was due to a problem in the mod TheWay, which I have created. This has now been fixed in the most recent version found here. There will not be any crashes when exiting the game anymore. My apologies for the confusion. 3
petsild Posted February 26, 2024 Author Posted February 26, 2024 Hi, Due to random crashes, I ruled out TheWay as the main culprit and then turned it back on in Scripts. I am very glad that the mystery has been solved, thank you all for your help and support. buceador Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 Simply for information, DCS crashes each time I exit the program when using certain mods, I KNOW this is because of a MOD that I want use in specific missions. I have 2 MODS folders, one that I know will NOT crash the program on exit and one that I know WILL. Crashing after I click exit doesn't worry me...
petsild Posted February 26, 2024 Author Posted February 26, 2024 Which mod specifically? MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4, Kingston 3600 MHz 64 Gb, i5 12600K, Gigabyte RTX 4090, Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus,VKB NXT Premium.
