RealDCSpilot Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 For production quality, another topic is audio: Echo 19 just announced they started working on a real Bell 407 for audio recordings. Where i get question marks floating over my head is how this will end up. Do we need to install a mod to get those (obviously) better sounds? Or will they be integrated in the module? For DCS modules, developers usually already provide the whole finished audio production on release. The effort for sound production was made during production phase, not after release. And it's logically included in the price i've paid. 1 i9 13900K @5.5GHz, Z790 Gigabyte Aorus Master, RTX4090 Waterforce, 64 GB DDR5 @5600, PSVR2, Pico 4 Ultra, HOTAS & Rudder: all Virpil with Rhino FFB base made by VPforce, DCS: all modules

I never flew DCS without Echo19's mods after they released the first bundle. So I'm sure it will be awesome and hopefully it will be integrated directly to the module for convenience. Agree on Echo19's quality. He's done some really good work and I am glad he's been asked to produce the Kiowa sound update. Even if its not part of the base product, his work is pretty easy to manage and maintain (especially if you use a tool like OvGME). Plus, his work, at least so far, comes with a volunteer license fee. =475FG= Dawger Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 This wonderful thread inspired me to spend the money and take the plunge on the Kiowa. I am not much of a rotorhead, preferring PvP WVR above all. I do own the Huey and Hip but rarely fly them. After 6 hours in the Kiowa, I will say it’s excellent. I fly in VR so I don’t give a about eye candy especially crew faces. Flying is fun. The potential for teamwork with this machine is exciting and the AI pilot is completely competent, terse and mature. I wish I could transition the guy to fixed wing. Only bugginess I noticed is long distance MMS video is sometimes blanked in portions. Money well spent, in my opinion. 8

I don’t fly in servers that allow external views. Sounds are fine. 3D. Cockpit looks fine to me. Textures. Its VR Physics. I don’t recall anything in these 22 pages except something about full fuel and 4 boomsticks. Overgross doesn’t mean always impossible. It means always bad idea but you might get away with it. Been there, done that. Seems to fly like a helo and the acknowledged SME gave it a thumbs up. I did have a wild incident switching off the AI Pilot while he was following the route that resulted in a snap roll. Definitely ranked in the impossible category so there is that. 3

ThorBrasil Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 I hope that the Polychop team will add this level of detail when redoing the 3D and textures of the Kiowa. It would be fantastic to see something at this level! Currently only the Apache and the Ka-50 v3 have this, I think. I really like the Kiowa and I want to see it at this level of detail. It's the other kind of stubborn that gets old very quickly! The only things keeping me from this module is the price tag and the reality that I can't fly the six or eight helos I already have worth a darn. Precision landings are possible only if we use the WWII definition of 'precision'; landing relatively close to the same map on which we took off... Otherwise from what I gather this has the same problems as every other brand new mod. It‘s a fun helo for sure. I‘d say the FM is en par with the average of all the other helos in DCS. Some aspects perhaps make it bit easier to fly. What really sets it apart for me is the way they enabled single players to properly(!) work a multicrew aircraft. The AI „co-pilot“ is just so great for this purpose. Wether the visuals are good or not or important lays in the eye of the beholder. If you have a soft spot for helicopters, I won’t skip this one. 3 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Now, what do I like about the Kiowa that has not been mentioned. Just like the Gazelle, it brings me back to the mid/late 80s where we could do multiplayer on a single computer, just in a much better way. Back in the days I would pilot that fictional Stealth Fighter with the Gods Eye SA, and my buddy would take care of the counter measures, (at the exact correct time), wepaons an navigation. How today? Well, even if my system is showing its age, I have to possibility to run multiple screens and exports. I have yet to get further into the Kiowa, and set them up the best way. But the excitement of my girlfriend when she plinks tanks in the the Gazelle with a beer in the other hand. Life is as good as its gets when your make the most out of it. I'm sure PC listens and will make the Kiowa even better. Cheers! 1

The Kiowa is a sure thing, I'm just holding out. Good news is while I'm in holdout mode I can casually fly a CH-47 into a tree for no other reason than I dipped the nose without adding power and for petty technical reasons it lost altitude That or the tree grew really fast. I should submit an unsubstantiated bug, because given a choice between incompetence and software errors the software loses every time. 8 minutes ago, MAXsenna said: But the excitement of my girlfriend when she plinks tanks in the the Gazelle with a beer in the other hand. Wait, your girlfriend plinks tanks from a Gazelle while enjoying an adult beverage? Where did you find this mythical creature? Does she have a sister? My wife just rolls her eyes when I pretend to fly in my seriously over the top, OCD-inspired, wanna-be pilot contraption! Of course my wife was probably born a little farther southeast than your girlfriend...maybe that's it... 2

I hope the Kiowa gets the same love that the Mi24, Ka50v3, Apache and Chinook have received. Always remember the smell, and some things I discovered reading a series of articles in the Chicago Tribune years later about places I went while there... Tough place to grow up, in general, and that your partner only beat the <pixels> out of you is a good thing. I've met descendants of Vikings, and I've met young ladies who've more recently survived the PI. Much as I am loathe to return to the topic at hand (before BN sharpens his claws) I have not seen very much about updates to the Kiowa, which makes me wonder if/where/when PC plans to visit some of the more colorful complaints embedded in the 21 pages of this topic. Granted there are only about five things in those 21 pages to look at, but they seem worthy of attention. The S:N ratio here is about average, unfortunately. I did notice, and expected, it would be excluded from the sale.
