not like a Module from 2010

Sure, but don't be too extreme: you can tell it supports the engine changes made in 2.5 (PBR and deferred shading) so it's at the very least 2017+ and thus not as bad as some people make it out to be. It looks a lot better than the current Huey and Mi-8. But there is room for improvement, we can agree on that.

Question for the owners (because despite wanting to be a day 1 buyer, it hasn't happened for a multitude of reasons):

How many training missions and missions and also a campaign does the module have?

Life has happened, so I haven't had a chance to dig into the Kiowa yet let alone purchase. I was happy to see it is released as a full product, but a bit blown away at the price, so taking a step back for at least a little bit for the time being...

I thought I read in here that there is no campaign? But I want clarification since... non-buyers can't see exactly what modules come with these days without buying them...

I can't find myself wanting to spend such a massive chunk of money on a module if it doesn't come with training and missions and a campaign.

Does it come with any of this stuff? I haven't seen it written or spoken of anywhere as of yet.

But for a full  price module, I expect training and missions at a bare minimum. I'm a little sad to see the external model and textures haven't improved over all of these years, but I can at least get over that aspect. Although it is unusual now that the Gazelle, while being a significantly older module, looks better...

9 IA missions

2 single missions (same mission but 1 in Caucacus and 1 in Syria)

15 training missions

no campaign

*edit*
Compared to the F-4:

97 IA missions

11 Single missions

9 Training missions

No campaign

One thing I think the F16 did best that I wish others copied, is have the full-blown training mission with the (sometimes too drawn-out) voiceovers, but then also replicates the same scenario as a mission, so you can skip the 5 minutes setup if you know more or less what to do and just want to practice your VFR landing or whatever

I can think of nothing heavier than an airplane
I can think of no greater conglomerate of steel and metal
I can think of nothing less likely to fly

Thanks Raven!

Well that's a bit of a let down...

For EA titles I expect some instant actions not always being around; but for a full release module that's very weak.

Gives me time to start saving up though I guess; hopefully in a few month's time those numbers will improve.

Yes I agree. This is not much of a problem in MP, but for the larger SP crowd it surely is disappointing.
But in the end what is even more important is the amount of training missions available, and what they cover. And on that front, I have no complaints 🙂

Good to hear the training missions are good, I didn’t check anything missions wise.

I set bindings, went through the YouTube vids for cold starting and was away 🙂. Yet to use any weapons, haven’t been able to get time in it, maybe later on.

Just please, with all my respect, could you move on?

that's great they acknowledged the sound issues, but no mention at all of future texture and graphical upgrades. that's unfortunate. if they committed to releasing updated internal and external visuals in the future, that would probably tip the scales over for me to purchase it now in support, and knowing that it'll get better. but as of now there's a chance these are the final textures.

I thought the same thing. If Polishop didn't say anything, then it won't receive updates on the 3D model and Textures and the kiowa will remain as it is forever.

I still have hope that Kiowa will receive improvements in 3D and textures.

People are funny...

It is a customer's right to complain and ask for reiteration where it is due. It is very logical to ask for explanation when a module releases at $70, yet retains basic quality issues. Overall, the OH-58D is solid in terms of systems, FM and features. In terms of textures and sounds, those things are not bugs. They are apparently underprovided. If one looks at the complexity of AH-64D or any other module at that price range, then KW is both smaller (physically), far less advanced in terms of systems, and generally has fewer aspects to consider (integration of external DL and such - L2MUM is a good example here).

If disagreeing with a thread, it's very easy to move on without responding, or feeling the need to express oneself. It is, thanks to demanding customers, that sound will get revised now. It also does point to Polychop taking a dangerous approach regarding quality-only-per-request. If better accoustics were initial plan, then they would be in it at release. Therefore, recognizing that the overall module is very good, but falling somewhat short of $70 in comparison to what you get elsewhere, let's hope that shortcuts in development will not be the new norm.

To those who still disagree; your welcome! Free passangers benefitting off the diligence of others!

Orherwise, if you are on the edge - don't worry, it's a good product, but it will truly shine when the above gets mitigated.

I can deal with the textures and animation modeling for now. Though I really hope they plan on refining them and adding a few more animations?! I just can't get past the sounds, or lack thereof, they're REALLY REALLY bad. The .50 arm and recock is ok, but firing it sounds like someone shooting vinyl siding with an airsoft rifle. Ground idle on ext view isn't too bad just kinda low and needs a little bit of bass, but internally sounds like a street sweeper truck. The in flight sound is just a disaster, it's like a car from the Jetsons, but with a dead cylinder. It's a fun little module, but $70 is REALLY HIGH for the mod. Hopefully they'll hear the community and it'll get the, Gazelle treatment.

You zoom in on the rotor several times, may I know why? Do you mean animation?

It actually looks good for me, this part of working rotor is blurred like in Apache. This animation is flawless in my opinion. 👍

heli's rotor would wave upwards a little bit when spinning, however the OH58's looks really flat from the video

I miss the old days when Novalogic's Comanche Gold is on 😄

D'ya reckon?

I've just been going through the cold start video again. Still haven't fired anything, I'm just going by the demo from YT and I think the gun sound stops too abruptly. It just cuts out. No reverb, I dunno? Just doesn't sound right to me. Same with engine sounds as mentioned already.

Great to read Polychop have a sound man on the case and I look forward to updates. I'm gonna give em the benefit of the doubt on textures. I don't know how big a job polishing it up is but I'd imagine it could be done? Maybe in time, like the Gazelle? I don't think it's that bad but I can see the point. I do like the shape of these Kiowas and it's great to fly. Easy, in a good way. I barely know how to use any systems as well, there aren't any in props where I've spent most of my flying time. More to learn but I like it. 🙂

My thoughts too. I got it yesterday and well true enough it doesn’t match up with the textures in other modules. There will always be two camps, those that aren’t that bothered with visuals and those who are more discerning with their purchases. Both can agree to disagree. My take is that it is a matter of better clarity and sales integrity.

Went through some of the training missions earlier.

Typically I’ve forgotten what the instrument was called but they’re instructing us to use a left mouse click when it should be right and vice-versa. Oh, it’s on the pilots stick when turning up the rpms a few notches to 100%. Minor thing in the cold start tutorial but misled me for a bit.

Looking forward to the sound engineers updates. Exterior touch ups if there are any I can wait for. Other than that it’s great. So easy to fly, looking forward to getting to grips with the systems in it.

Could do with a bindings map for the warthog if anyone has suggestions, I’ve plonked a few in but they’re probably not ideal.

I just took a flight and this thing right out of the box is flying better than the Apache. That's wild. Especially when it comes to the SCAS. I seem to be doing a lot less fighting the SCAS.
