Silver Dragon is taking a short break, and has requested it to be hidden for now. If that changes we can enable the thread again.

thank you

But several people posted news in that thread. I've posted news there. Why does Silver Dragon get to close the thread? 🤨

Is this with regards to the "Unofficial Development Thread"? Yeah if so, bring it back please 🙂

Yes, please bring it back. The thread belongs to the community, and many in the community posted news there, not just Silver Dragon. Not by a long shot.

It's borderline ridiculous that he can have thread removed. There are many still here who want to both post news and see the news.

Please restore the thread.

Absolutely agree, Beirut and T!  One person should not have the power to rage quit and shut that thread down.  ED, please reconsider your decision to hide the thread.  Lots of us rely on that for news

@BIGNEWY Can we have that thread back, please?

Many people, including myself, posted news in that thread and many more enjoyed reading it. I checked that thread every time I came to the site.

Does that thread not belong to the community?

Once Silver Dragon decides to come back and get things running again, . . .

The thread that posted news, where each post had to be cleared by the mods, had many contributors. And I'm sure it happened to many people, not just me, that they submitted posts that had news in them, but then another person's post with the same news was put up. Meaning that often as not, several people submitted the same news and only one post was chosen. That's fine, of course. But it means that Silver Dragon, in no way whatsoever, kept that thread running. He might have often just been first to submit the news, perhaps by just a few minutes, before others submitted the exact same news. And quite often other members had three of four or more posts in a row with news in them.

That was not his thread. It was everyone's thread. And many people including myself enjoyed seeing it. And that idea that he "needed a break" and therefore thinks everyone else should lose the opportunity to either submit and/or read the news is ridiculous to the point of being childish.

Like said: "unpopular opinion probably".

You are free to start a new one and keep it running and popular. What is stopping you or anyone else (apart from being too busy complaining in here)?

It was an established and well read thread that everyone knew about and many people participated in posting news. Why should one person get to have it removed?

And yes, I am complaining. It's ridiculous that one person can have a popular thread with a large readership and participation removed.

I see both points of view as valid so I’m a bit knackered. I assumed it was moderated by Silver, it seemed to be.

Schlingels’ compromise closes this thread, opens a ‘news thread’ and they can be merged later. Problem is all the reference posts missing from the hidden thread.

I’ll get me coat.

Seems he's just saying "It's my ball and I'm going home". That's ridiculous.

Lots of people posted news in that thread, not just SD. And many many more people read that news and enjoyed the thread. Why does one person have the right to close a thread that so many contributed to and enjoyed? And if a new thread is started and people contribute and it gets a readership, will he come right back and open the old one up again to overshadow the new thread, which will then probably die... and then maybe he decides to close it again a month or two later when he's not in the mood again and not let anyone contribute or read the news anymore?

It really is pretty silly.

Does not answer my question 🤷‍♂️ (it was a rhetorical one anyways). Well, it does indirectly.

Nothing wrong with that, in contrary. Things always got more than one side, just a matter how you communicate it. My offered (temporary) solution for sure is not an all-in-one fixes-everything one. A tricky situation for sure. But sometimes you just got to work with what you currently got. In the end it's up to the people if they pick it up or ignore it and keep complaining for the sake of complaining. The latter definitely contributes nothing and is just scratching some individuals' itches.

In general: if it was "everyones" thread and things are so easy peasy to manage, why isn't there a new one already for the time being? Maybe because it takes dedication and more than a big mouth to run such a thread and to indeed be the one that 24/7 (often) is faster with posting news than others - in a community where lots of folks are addicted to news and "competition", if i may call it such, is big. And with such dedication, maybe also comes some privilege (yes, very unpopular opinion again, got lots of that).

Btw: as a thread creator, you can also just delete the whole thread with one click. It is so easy: swoosh and everything is gone. Forever. With no further notice. He did not but asked mods to give it a timeout, which is a clear indicator this is a temporary thing. So why the fuzz? I said earlier i do not care about gossip, but looking at some reactions in here and how years-long dedication is valued, i got some vague idea why all this might have happened. There is two posts that acutally thought about the why and if he is well. This community, in parts, definitely is not a pleasure. If he needs some rest, leave him some rest and go touch some grass in the meantime.

Nevertheless, only came in to contribute a possible solution, not to watch <profanity>posting. Taking my coat too, i'm outa here. Things getting sorted one way or the other anyways.

A solution? Just leave the existing thread open for all and have a "no discussion" heading on it if required, as many other threads currently have, and let people post and read the news where people have always posted and read the news.

But no. Can't possibly have that now, can we? 🙄

Folks SD just wanted to take a break, it is a thread he created and he manages the information in the first posts. As the OP of the thread if he asks for it to be hidden we will do it.

He has messaged me this morning to thank everyone for their concern, he is fine, again just needed a break.

I will reopen the thread, and close this one.

thank you
