I am having a heck of a time getting the Assembler to function correctly.

When I run the .bat file I just get a quick flash of the command window and off it goes. It does not appear to be working for me.

I have all of the files that it comes with in the zip file placed in my \stable directory in Flaming Cliffs 2.

And suggestions guys??

Have you made your changes to the assemblescenes.cfg file and inserted your own file paths?

Does anybody know where I can get 3ds max 2008? Was looking online and cant seem to a good link for it.

Another question, do these tools only work with lockon? Or can you do things like replace existing textures in a-10 and BS2? It would be nice if there was an at a glance option to see what game these mods work in.

Try and send a message to Autodesk regarding MAX.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Yes, only up to FC2. All DCS products use a different version of terrain tools. you can replace textures in A10 and BS2 currently. Just find the texture, and make your own new one.

Current terrain tools = Up to Blackshark 1 and FC2

LOM tools = Up to Blackshark 1 and FC2

EDM tools = A10C, Blackshark 2, P51

Technically you can use the LOM format for current products, but there is no reason to because of the benefits from EDM

Thanks luckybob. More specifically, i am interested in updating the runway lights of kutaisi and other airports similiarly, from floating blue balls to the runway lights of batumi. Which set of tools could I do that with?

There are currently two types of runways in the game. Old and new. Old ones are made using the old terrain tools where the lights are part of the .rn3 file. No tools are currently available to modify those. New runways use the lights in the regular model EDM format. Those you can just replace the model.

Since Kataisi is in the old runway format, it might take some creative methods that I do not know of to modify it

So in order to replace the said airfield one would need to get the correct diamentions of said airfield?

There are no public tools to export into the .rn3 format. Your only chance is to somehow read into the .rn3 and modify it. The only real direction I can give is that new format uses lights as individual .EDM files. These .edm files are declared in a configuration file under an airfield section (can remember what file). The edm is then placed inside the airfield folder.

But yes, you would need to draw out the lights using splines. Each vert = light

Airport Design Editor for DCS?

Hi pilots,

in the past I was creating scenery for FSX(see my signature). There is a free tool called Airport Design Editor by scruffyDuck. With this editor it is so easy to create Airports. Is there a chance we have that for DCS as well? That tool for FSX is freeware. You can also get a pro version which cost only $9,99. I would also spend $20 for a tool like that for DCS. I am wondering why every company is cooking their own soupe instead of using common fileformats.

I would really like to provide my knowladge in 3D modeling but find it extrem hard to go through all the conversion procedure.

Any good programmers beneeth us who could accomplish such a tool? :smartass:

just my thoughts...

Companies probably dont want people/ other companies to take their work if they all used a common format :)

That is totaly understandable. But there is a copyright law which protects the work. I mean, all I say assumes that ED is interested in ppl outside the ED Team making mods and stuff for free in the first place. I think to limited degree they are. There are already a few like GrandSurf who pretty well know the structure of the game and having released some really cool stuff. Well the more ppl can make mods, the more open the structure of the game is the less we need ED for making updates and therefore, from ED's perspective I wouldn't want that to happen. So it makes sense, that modding is kind of bumpy to the masses.

Just my two cents!

Cheers

You need to edit the assemblescenes.cfg file to declare your items. Look at around 8 minutes in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql8lTUO1pSY
