I had to uninstall my Spitfire module after it started doing weird things.

When I tried to re-download a replacement I got a message saying I already own this module. But it doesn't trell me how to get a replacement copy.

I think (can't try it out) I have my old key number.

So, how (step by step, please, in plain English with no Acronyms) do I download a new copy of it?

Thanks,

Hi,

first of all, it is helpful to know that DCS stepped away from the old key number system some years ago.

Today all your modules are connected to your account. So you don't need keys anymore to install modules.

All you have to do is start the module manager on top of the DCS menu.

Here is a nice and short video you might want to take a look at.

It covers the buying process (you don't need) and from 1 min 3s on it shows where to find the module manager.

In you case you want to select installed modules within the module manager to check for the spitfire.

Thank you, Tom. I got that far. I know keys are no longer required (although I did find the key number for the original). I did numerous repair attempts but they didn't work, so I uninstalled it.

The problem arises when I try to obtain another Spitfire module. It tells me I already have that module. Of course, I already had uninstalled the only copy I had. It no longer appears in the Module Manager list. But the system seems to think I have it.

I was even willing to buy another copy with my money. It still wouldn't let me.

There must be a process for replacing the one the one I deleted.

Hi,

Have you checked already this page:

It has multiple instructions on repairing DCS and/or modules.

Posted

@HotTom Are you saying it has disappeared from the Module Manager in DCS. That means when you have started DCS. To me it sounds like you try to load it in the EStore. That's the only place they will tell you that you already have purchased it. Like Tom wrote, start DCS, and at the top of the screen, you have the Module Manager, click that and find the tab for flyable modules. Renable it, it might have been disabled along with being uninstalled.

As to your initial problem, if you have done a repair, which is exactly like a re-installation. And you still have issues. The problem lies in Saved Games, which a repair does not touch.

Cheers!

Ah! Didn't know the Repair doesn't affect Saved Games.

Still can't fix this. I finally was able to purchase a new copy of the Spitfire Module. ED acknowledged the purchase BUT... can't download or install it.

Any ideas?

Have you checked drive:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft if the folder SpitfireLFMkIX is still there? If so, make a copy (with Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V) and delete the original one.

Also, if DCS is not working after your previous repair, do the same with the folder Saved Games. Make a copy and delete the original one.

Then start DCS, it will create a new Saved Games folder and a repair should install the folder SpitfireLFMkIX back again.

Afterwards you can copy various settings form the old Saved Games back into the new one.

Spitfire folder is missing from both. I have nothing to copy.

Thanks for the tip, though.

Just to sort things out: Are you running DCS in "offline mode"?

No, I am running it online.

I figure I might sort it out if I delete DCS and do a complete reinstall, but that's a whole lot of work.

I have a couple of modules I bought and never learned. Maybe best to invest my time into setting them up and learning them.

But the Spit is my favorite prop air-to-air fighter.

Why did you re-purchase it? That would obviously not help you. Sorry!

Quicker to just rename the folder. 😉

Nope. Installation, update and repair functions are all run by the Updater.exe

To bring back DCS to plain vanilla, run a full slow repair and rename your DCS folder(s) in Saved Games.

Did you open the Module Manager and double checked it's not disabled?

Cheers!

The Module Manager appears to be working. But the Spitfire has disappeared from my list of installed modules. I have noticed the Spitfire icon has vanished from the bottom of my main menu screen. Can't figure that out.

I've run a full slow repair and it didn't do anything. I can do it again but I don't understand your instruction: "rename your DCS folders in Saved Games." Which folders and what should the new names be?

Thanks, Max.

Well, if you uninstalled it, then it should indeed  disappear from module manager's "Installed" tab and from main screen icons as well. So it did.

If you're properly logged into the game (with the same credentials as used in ED shop), it should pop up after you click "Available DLC" tab (I think? Don't remember at the moment), with a question of whether you want to install it.

After you do and installation is complete, the "green dot" switch should also be set to the right, which means now the module is not only installed, but also enabled (as these are two separate things). Example from my module manager is shown below.

Hi @HotTom. You should open a support ticket:

  1. Log into DCS website.
  2. Click Support.
  3. Click Create a new ticket.

Will do

What was the solution in the end in case somebody else has similar problems, or they just did something behind the scenes and then it showed up?

Great! How, if you please?

To answer your question. In Saved Games you have a DCS folder and/or a DCS.openbeta folder. After a full slow repair. If you rename the relevant DCS folder IN Saved Games, a new one will be created when you start DCS, and you have a complete fresh vanilla game.
Cheers!

Support provided a bulk download for the Spitfire. I ran it and it reinstalled the Spit.

Haha! 😄 What I meant is that I can't remember ED support providing an installer, if I understand it l correctly, for a single module before. OR did they provide you a command line syntax to force install it? Can't believe I didn't suggest that. 🤦🏼‍♂️

No, the AI in support just linked me to a download link, I downloaded it and ran it. Easy Peasy! Flappy was ahead of you on this one. 🙃
