Hallo, Kampfpiloten.
We are glad that you are interested in the map and liked the chosen territory. Thank you for your feedback and information, this is very valuable to us. We do not hide the territory of development, we immediately opened the list of airfields and showed the map so that you know what to expect. But some questions and wishes have appeared (you are so insatiable! 😁👍), so we will answer some of them.

Many asked about the date (I will not list them all) for now we can answer that we are planning the release of the map within a year.

@Geschirre, yes, there is Bibturg, it is included in the first phase and, moreover, you will see it this week.

There are a lot of wishes about adding phase 3 airfields and bases located outside the map boundaries. We are happy with this, it means that we have covered all the most important things in phase 1. It is too early to talk about expanding the map (spare your SSDs), but we are analyzing all your suggestions and arguments, when the time comes to update the map boundaries, we will announce it.

@cfrag  about German Asset Pack: we will think about it, if we release it, it will be after phase 3. Cold War Germany map is our priority. You can create a topic and specify the models that you would like us to move to the pack.

We will try to keep you updated and publish reviews of the map every week on Friday and Saturday. Follow the forum and subscribe to the Youtube channel (at your request, we renamed it), sometimes short videos may appear there.

Also, at the end of this or next week, our joint FAQ post with ED will be published

Ich bin weggeflogen!

That's so cool! Would like to do that in my home town (between Cologne and Düsseldorf) with a F-16 too. This will be fun 😄

Ooooh, with those big beautiful German airfields, that's going to be some serious good fun.

Without a doubt, the most anticipated map at the moment! Even if my "homebases" Neuburg and Lechfeld probably won't make it.

One question regarding the Shelters at the FRG airbases like Buchel. The Shelters look a bit odd, unless they're still WIP. Do you have reference pictures from that time frame? The ones we have since at least the last 30 years or longer don't have any edges, as the frames are roundish. Also it looks like the doors (4 per shelter) are missing, and I don't think they were open at the back.

Just something that I noticed, Spangdahlem for example looks perfect.

Cheers

@MAESTR0, any heads-up on this?

Wow, that's a nice surprise, really looking forward to this map. I'm wondering what level of detail the historic city center of Lübeck or Lübeck-Travemünde beach will get. Will we be able to do practice some low-level flybys on an obstacle course around the seven church towers in its city center?

I also do remember that as a child it was quite a sight to watch a rescue helicopter land once every few years on our nearby soccer field. Will we be able to fly rescue missions between (soccer) fields and the local hospital in Lübeck?

Edit: Having obstacle courses around the many wind turbines we have in northern Germany would also be fun. But they were unfortunately only built in the recent one or two decades.

Edit2: Oh, or seeing the Herrenbrücke again would make my heart jump. And being able to fly through it with a jet. When it finished construction in 1964 it was the biggest draw bridge of Europe. It was replaced by a tunnel in the 2006. This bridge would create massive traffic jams for 30mins and it needed a long time to open and close. And has had countless repairs. One story of it is that its architect jumped from this bridge due to the many flaws it has had: https://rainer-wiedemann.de/die-herrenbruecke-europas-groesste-klappbruecke-von-1964-2005/

Stay cool, we don´t need a touristical sightseeing or google streetview map. . . we need cold war military focus on military sites and POI and especially airfields (details on hardware, equipment, layout, SAM and radar sites, ground installations with historical correctness). Dont get me wrong, I love details the more the better, but surely will make no helicopter missions in Lübeck when I can access a Germany cold war map. . . 😉

The more pronounced buildings like churches are very likely to be recreated at least with the common model so I'd expect that to be entirely possible.

If the stadium and hospital with a heli pad are modeled (there are such models ex. on Syria, including the wind farms, btw) you can fly such missions - you have to make the mission yourself though.

Does anyone know approximately how many GBs the map is going to be?

We can only guess at this point. Normandy, which is done by same team and the same tech is 43GB. This seems something over twice in the size, but since it's not sat textures it can't be easily deduced. I'd say no more than 100GB, either way it'll be smaller than comparable sat texture maps.

Only the Devs. Assume 200GB with the first release, and add 50GB for every other season.

200?! Holy crap, my computer is DEFINITELY gonna run out of space after I install it. Good lord! It's gonna be the largest map in GBs in all of DCS. My oh my.

@MAESTR0 One question regarding Bitburg AB.

Do we know if the Roether Zulu Alert Facility will be present and will be possible to place 4 F-15C inside ready to take-off if alarm bells ring ? 😈

Just curious.

Alert?  Lariat Advance!  Send the GOERS to the ASP and get loaded!  Heading to the GDP!  Break out the small arms.  (APR 1976, 3AD - when we started breaking out the small arms ammo I got worried.....just an exercise to judge how long it took us to get combat loaded).....

Iraq's Baghdad performance was a scary surprise. I hope the map is properly ironed out on its autogen to make room in hardware power for the actual missions and scenarios for the average joe's computer, especially in multiplayer in densely populated locations.

Hallo, Genossen!  ✈️
Today we continue our journey along the Cold War map and head to Leipzig, a city where socialist reality meets history, and the Soviet pavilion reminds us of the times when Trabants were a dream, and a line for bananas was a real adventure. When there was a happy childhood and comrades all around.
As part of the GDR, Leipzig was the second most populous city and, thanks to the annual trade and industrial exhibition, served as a kind of calling card of the republic. Leipzig is not only a large industrial center of the GDR, but also an important strategic hub - from here you can quickly get to the Fulda Gap or key targets deep in enemy territory.

Comrades, you are flying to Leipzig: at the same time, take a look at the airport, look at the monument to the Battle of the Nations (Völkerschlachtdenkmal) - a huge monument dedicated to the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. This is a great landmark for navigation. Meet at the Soviet Pavilion (Achilleion) - the Soviet Pavilion was not just an exhibition hall, but a real symbol of the Soviet presence in the GDR

Leipzig/Halle Airport - Gateway to the GDR Skies

Leipzig Airport is a true symbol of the era. One of the key airports of the GDR, where both civilian and military aircraft were based. Interflug Tu-134s landed here, Air France and British Airways operated Concorde flights from Paris and London when the Leipzig fair was held.

Leipzig Airport awaits you!

Sembach Air Base

Now we move west to Germany, where Sembach Air Base (Sembach Kaserne) awaits you. Situated about 19 miles (31 km) east of Ramstein Air Base, it is one of NATO's key bases and played an important role in protecting Western European airspace. If you are no stranger to the A-10, this base will feel like home to you. Here you can take your F-4 Phantom or A-10 Thunderbolt II into the sky and enjoy the beautiful views - the base is surrounded by picturesque forests, making it not only strategically important, but also visually impressive.

I am really not happy about this. It seems to be part of the mapping engine though since it i have seen this in all recent maps, be it Kola, Afghanistan, Iraq... excessive fake elevation by baked in "shadows". It looks terrible since you clearly see it is flat and it is also way too pronounced. Please get rid of that, it kills everything looking good!

Bump Maps. They are truly everywhere in some maps, but if you get rid of them, from high up everything will look bland again, just like Early South Atlantic map.

There needs to be a new tech for high density autogen (3D), with performance in mind, to populate these areas with either rocks or bushes or trees. Add not substract.

germany-baden-wurttemberg-drone-view-of-

I highly disagree that bump maps should be removed. It would be a downgrade if so.

In that video thumbnail with the Mig-29 on the latest post, the bump mapping on the ground pulls off some excellent visuals from that altitude.

I think that Leipzig currently feels too generic looking at it. There are a few landmarks that could be added to define it better, one of the tallest building in Germany at the time, the Uni-Hochhaus and/or the Wintergartenhochhaus. The train station not being moddled is criminal, since it is the biggest in Europe and iconic.
