TrackIr 4 with Track Clip Pro and running TrackIr 5 software. To date, all was well and TrackIr ran fine without any problems. Fired up BS and just stopped dead in it's tracks: No Blue/Green LED on the TrackIr device whatsoever and when I run the software, it says that there is 'No Device Detected'.

It appears that the 3 red LED's are functioning on the Clip however.........Tried everything: Uninstalled/Rebooted/Installed the Software, plugged the hardware into different USB Ports - nothing: Dead as a Doornail!

Any ideas?

Have you tested it with any other sims? Having the 3 red LEDs on is strange, have you checked that the profile hasn't defaulted back to the hat clip rather than the track clip pro?

If all else fails, the TIR 4 software is still available on the naturalpoint website. Might be worth trying that out.

I don't have TIR but have you tried a different USB port?. Is the TIR device recognised/enabled under device manager?. Is the USB port directly connected to the mainboard IE not a powered hub?. Have you tried the TIR website for troubleshooting guide?. Is TIR inside warranty?. If you're outside of warranty open it up and check the 5v DC connection from the USB cable to the TIR device, if you have a multimeter test the whole cable from USB plug to TIR device. On the USB plug the -/+ supply are the first and fourth gold plated connections inside your USB plug.

Sounds like it's either fried or you have a break in the circuit.

Good luck hope you fix it.

Restart the PC

Unplug, replug the usb cable

Uninstall, reinstall software

If still a no go maybe it's dead. I had a TIR4 go on me but it was my fault. I had double sided taped the back of the TIR to my monitor bezel. Over a few months this overheated it and eventually killed it.

Tested with TrackIr 4 Software - Nothing. Plugged into various USB ports that are working with other peripherals, ie Printer etc etc - Nothing. All USB ports tried are part of Main Board and as said, supporting Monitor/Printer at present. Uninstalled and Reinstalled/Unplugged and Replugged countless times - No Go.

Unit approx 3-4 years old......and another aspect: Not recognised (I assume) in the Device manager as there is no mention of TrackIr:

Wish I was technically inclined enough to pull apart the USB cables/TrackIr Unit, but sadly I'll probabbly FUBAR it well beyond redemption.......Possible that it is indeed Dead - would it happen so quickly/immediate? Would have expected a wee Puff of Smoke.......:music_whistling:

Well, given all that you've tried already, I'd say it is most definatly U/S. Still now that TIR5 is out you might be able to get a decent bargain on a new TIR4 if you don't want to pay full price for TIR5.

Look under mice and other pointing device in device manager IIRC TIR is a mouse emulator so it may show up under there. If it's dead you can do no harm taking the casing off and checking the connections from the USB cable to the device. Loads of people throw perfectly good peices of kit away because of something simple like a broken circuit. Because you have no LED's lighting up on the device I suspect you may have a broken circuit. If you lack the skills ask someone who does have a clue to have a look, could save youself mega bucks.

If no lights show up on the camera (the TIR 'device'), and the software's not seeing it, and it's not in the proper category in Device Manager.... I'd say the camera's dead. If the infrared emitters in the TIR clip are still working, and it sounds like they are, all you'd need to do is buy a new camera.

I had a similar problem. I had to use the "Safely remove hardware" gadget on the tasbar AND unplug it and replug it in. It was strange, the track clip pro lights were on just like yours but the camera was completely dead no status light no nothing.

Sounds like a background light source being detected by camera....using a track ir 3 here....still going strong.

Bugged out a couple times yesterday...either frozen or not being detected by windows....nothing a pc restart didnt fix.:smilewink:

well, my first trackir 5 died after exactly two years and one day.

the day before everything was fine, and then the next one, it just was dead.so it can go quickly and without any warning.

I must be one of the lucky ones so.... probably 7 years of trackir 3 use....before manufacturer decided to put a timed kill-switch in their hardware.Got to keep those sales up;)

Agreed. That does not sound like anything is actually broken.

If you look at your photo again, it shows that the hat clip is selected as the target. Try changing it back to the Trackclip pro. I think Eddie has mentioned this as well

You just answered a 4 year old post. I suspect Viper has since solved the problem. ;)

Without so much as a hint my TrackIR 4 seems to have died. Two days ago all was fine, today it's like it doesn't exist (from the computer's point of view). Doesn't show up in device manager, software says "No device detected" and the Windows sounds for plugging/unplugging don't play when I plug/unplug it.

To be sure, I tested it with a total of 5 USB ports on two different computers (1 PC, Win 7, where it ran fine the other day, one Notebook, Win 8.1), including 2 USB hubs and the main USB connectors, but I could just as well have plugged in piece of plastic.

If anyone wants to tell me it's resting... it's bleedin' demised!

Well, 6 1/2 years, I guess there's no warranty to cover that so I ordered myself a brand new TrackIR 5, here's to hoping it'll grow at least as old.

If someone has useful tips where to look for defects with the old device (like "replace cable" or "re-seat processor" or whatever), I'm all ears, though, wouldn't hurt to get it working again and keep it as a backup. :smartass:

Well, it could be pining...but perhaps not! :D

My TIR5 is about four years old, so far so good.

My more immediate concern is whether it'll arrive in time for Saturday's MP session. :D

If it doesn't, I might finally take the plunge and try to take on JTAC/CA duties (if I do, I'll probably report over at the appropriate forum section how it went). ;)

Just last week I upgraded to TrackIR 5, after the mounting of my 10 year old TrackIR 3 broke. After reading this thread it looks as if my new TrackIR will not work for 10 years - I'll keep my old one then and not donate it as I had planned.

Solved

If anyone is still having problems, this is what I did to resolve a "No device detected".

After upgrading my TrackIR software to the latest 5.3 I found it no longer recognized my TrackIR4. It just said "No device detected"

I opened Devices and Printers in control panel, under unspecified I found my TrackIR4.

Right click > Properties > Hardware > properties > Change settings > Driver > Uninstall

Then unplug the USB, and re-plug in. Windows searches for drivers, I just cancelled the search and accepted all the doom and gloom warnings, but the TrackIR5 software recognized the device and now all is working and happy.

I'm running win7 64, with TIR4 and TIR5.3 software.

I have been using mine for just about every day for over a year now, and tonight my camera just died !!! I hope I can just buy a new camera from NaturalPoint. I will look into

if its getting any juice. It does see it in Device manager.

Other solution that worked for me as below.

Background: came across this problem after Windows 10 Update yesterday. Searched the internets and TrackIR support, no provided solution worked. Using TrackIR 5 with 5.4 software and Windows 10 updated as of today.

Detailed issue I had: connected camera, but was not recognized. Camera was listed in hardware manager as unknown hardware. No LEDs would light up and in the TrackIR software no device was detected. The IR lamps on the TrackIR Pro Clip did light up though.

Solution: Deinstalled the 'unknown hardware' from hardware manager, unplugged and replugged the camera. In hardware manager right-clicked the unknown hardware, chose update driver, windows said there is no driver, chose manually install driver, navigated to the TrackIR software folder with the sub-folder 'driver' and let driver update check there - immediately found the correct driver and camera was working and detected as expected again.

Maybe helps someone.
