Milli Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Quick question: Is T/O trim reserved only to setup for takeoff or can it be used to reset the trim whilst in flight? Hi I watched a video on youtube last night of someone re-fueling the a-10 (DCS World, not real life) and I noticed that after he filled up with fuel he pressed the T/O trim button. So i guess people do do it in flight as well as pre-takeoff. I'll try it when I'm next flying. Regards, Milli

You might want to apply the brakes when firing the gun though, or else you might end up stuck in the grass behind the runway. ;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! alexej21 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 GBU 12 in second mission of the first A10 campaign I was attacking column of moving T80U. Half of my GBU 12 missed. Laser was on, whole time tracked by TGP. Enough Alt. I noticed that I hit the moving target only when I was alligened with the column in the same diraction of movement. When I realeased GBU 12 against the movement of the column the bomb just balisticaly fell down. Is it normal ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .....Vladimir, let's go to Sukhoi.......
Ghanja Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 ... Laser was on, whole time tracked by TGP. Enough Alt. ...That's not right because your bomb will loose it's energy falling and tracking the target - you should only lase your targets about 13 or 14 seconds prior to impact. That's probably the reason you did not hit - the bomb fell way too short. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .:: My System ::. .:: My Paintings ::.
alexej21 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Hmm I hit when I realeased bomb flying in the same direction as the movement of the column = longer distance I missed when I released against movement of the column = shorter distance, more energy [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .....Vladimir, let's go to Sukhoi.......
SmokeyTheLung Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 IIRC laser guided bombs have two selectable trajectories, ballistic and optimal. Optimal is the default setting (can be changed in the DSMS). Optimal actually attempts to put the bomb ahead of your Intended target. I think the idea is to have the bomb falling as vertically as possible during terminal guidance so as to have enough energy to manuver accurately. It's possible that this accounts for your bombs hitting/not hitting the moving vehicles depending on the direction you are dropping relative to their movement. I've had the best results with laser guided bombs by guesstimating a bit of lead on the moving targets. Lasing too early shouldn't be a problem, as the bomb won't "see" the laser (and start maneuvering/losing energy) until its fairly close to the ground. Try dropping a bomb, switching on the laser immediately, then press F6 and watch the bomb fall. Try to take note as the when the bomb starts guiding to the laser. WildBillKelsoe Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Here is a question for realism. I read in OAF/KEZ that A-10 pilots were assigned a hard deck. Since most practice mentioned in the book involved Unguided FFW delivery, how can one release a Mk-82 pair or cubby without violating the hard deck ( at least 10,000 ft)? Maachine Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 what do you guys set the CMS system to? auto, semi, manual? just wondering about the pros and cons of each type. do you guys use the jammer and does it work? i recall seeing something about fighter planes being able to locate and lock targets easier if the jammer is on, that true?

I set it to manual. It all goes down to expected threats and density. auto will deplete your stuff quickly, but will jam promptly based on nearest threat (sometimes locking threat). Semi provides means to control dispensing while giving u the option to jam to its priority threat. At least that is how I understand it. 112th_Rossi Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 It should be noted that the jammer in this game isn't modelled at all afaik.

Corrigan Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 That is not correct. It is modelled, albeit not very realistically. Are you sure? The consensus seems to be that ECM has no effect at all. sobek Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Are you sure? The consensus seems to be that ECM has no effect at all. No, it is modelled, but the way it is modelled makes it rather useless. SPJs in the sim fall quite short of their RL capabilities, that is what you should take a way from those posts. ECM and ECCM is a difficult subject to simulate, especially if you don't want to cripple your PC. Hopefully it will improve with modules that utilize radar themselves. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
