shagrat Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 What is the max distance you can launch a maverick that is properly slaved to and locked on a Sensor Point of Interest? 14 nautical miles? When you get a lock, so the tracking gate collapsed and the small cross flashing, the MAV will fire and reach the target. Depending on the contrast and other factors this is usually possible below 9 nm mostly 7.5 nm, remember to TMS up short until you got a lock. The optical versions support force correlate mode, that does not require a lock. You slew to SPI, collapse the gate completely (optical tracking of the point under the gate cross, I guess) now you may launch at any time. To my experience it is vital to have good altitude to get more range and firing from 9-10 nm should mostly result in a hit.:smilewink: Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Schlarty Bartfast Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Couple of quick questions.... Hi all noob Schlart here. Downloaded the A10c via steam and then have downloaded the 4 world files and now got the sim working independent of Steam. I've had it about three weeks and have got a X52 pro based on JB's profile. still learning to fly it at the moment although have made a couple of half decent landings as well (If you ignore the fuel truck that helped me come to a halt once). I'm guessing I need to be at this for about a couple of month before entering the multiplayer world. First question. The R/H ILS button won't turn to set the correct ILS in the landing trainer. It simply turns the volume. Help anyone? Second. I see a lot of you tube clips from the game which seem to be in a different country to the Georgia/ Russia one. I note that on some of the quick missions you can elect to fly in the USA but I don't have this option on mine. Have I missed a file down load or something? Other than to say this is a fantastic site with so much help for everyone available I don't think I would be enjoying the sim as much if it wasn't for you all. Thanks in advance. Laters. Schlart
FreeFall Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) 1. Do you use your mouse scroll wheel? I think there were some bugs with training lessons. Do you have the latest (fixed) training set? I don't know if the latest update has fixed them, but at least updated training missions were available for v1.2.2 http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/250461/ 2. It's the Nevada map, which I think was available long time ago when DCS A-10C was still beta. I suppose it will be available (you can buy it) in the future. Cannot say the schedule. Users that purchased the A-10C beta will get this map for free. Edited April 28, 2013 by FreeFall added info
Yurgon Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 First question. The R/H ILS button won't turn to set the correct ILS in the landing trainer. It simply turns the volume. What FreeFall said, try the rotating the mouse wheel above the knob. I'd like to throw in a portion of the manual regarding the left and right knobs on the ILS panel: Power Control Knob. This two-position switch controls power to the ILS system. Setting the switch to PWR with the outside of the knob enables power and setting the switch to OFF will disable power. Rotating the base of the knob will cycle the ILS frequency (displayed in the ILS Setting Window), by increments of 1 whole numbers. Volume Knob. Labeled VOL, the dial controls the volume of the localizer capture tone and the marker beacon tone. To adjust volume, the outside of the knob is rotated. If the base of the knob is rotated, the ILS frequency in tenths and hundredths will be cycled in .05 increments. In both cases, mouse click rotates the knob and mouse wheel rotates the base IIRC. Second. I see a lot of you tube clips from the game which seem to be in a different country to the Georgia/ Russia one. I note that on some of the quick missions you can elect to fly in the USA but I don't have this option on mine. Have I missed a file down load or something? FreeFall is right, the Nevada map was supposed to be released not long after A-10C, but work was suspended for a rather long duration. There's currently no release date scheduled, but AFAIK it's still in the pipeline of things to come. And man do I hope it comes. Just look at some of the latest screenshots that were posted!
Schlarty Bartfast Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Hi Freefall and Yurgon. Just done the download of the updated training missions and the problem has gone. Great advice, and many thanks. ATB Schlarty

The wikipedia article cites a weapons information book from 2002 as its source for the 12ish nm range for the AGM-65, I guess with enough altitude and attack angle it's possible. Leviathan Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Two questions: - What causes bouncing/hopping when landing on the runway? Any tips on how to work on avoiding this? - How do I have to interpret the big white taxi way center line on air bases like Kobuleti or Batumi, do I have to taxi on the center line or are those lanes to taxi on one side like on a street? If the latter is correct, do I have to taxi on the left side or the right side? Thank you
howie87 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Bouncing means you're coming in too fast or descending to quickly. Try keeping the AOA indexer in the 'o' zone, airbrakes at around 30% and flare at the threshold to touch down gently at around 120 knots depending on weight. Edit - My best technique for landing is to trim out perfectly at approach speed and fly a 3 degree glide slope. Lead should taxi on the left, the rest of the flight stagger behind (2 in the right lane, 3 left, 4 right) Edited May 1, 2013 by howie87
Leviathan Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Does the lead always taxi left, both before take-off and landing or does he taxi on the right after landing?
shagrat Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Hey thanks, this is what I was trying to figure out. The wikipedia article cites a weapons information book from 2002 as its source for the 12ish nm range for the AGM-65, I guess with enough altitude and attack angle it's possible. Yeah, the maximum range is mostly theory because a hit depends on the ability to lock the target, as I understood force correlate takes a picture of the target scenery and guides the MAV to the position in the center. When the target moves, or when your angle to the target is very shallow plus high range, you will miss... In the sim I try to gain altitude of 18,000 ft plus and get as near as 9.5 nm to a SAM before launching. Remember to jam and throw chaff when getting close. SA-15 and SA-6 are vulnerable to that type of attack, don't try this against a SA-10. The challenge is to spot the radar from afar and get the MAV on target. After launch, immediately break and turn 180° you can usually outrun a SAM missile from 9nm stand off, and the second will fall short. DON'T wait for the MAV to hit! Turn and run! ;) Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
howie87 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Always on the left. As you should be taking off and landing into the wind, the flow of traffic around the airfield should be circular.
Soupdragon Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Does the lead always taxi left, both before take-off and landing or does he taxi on the right after landing? As there is no formation landing, taxy after landing is much more spaced out and there is seldom a need to stagger on the taxiway, the commander is likely to be back on the ramp/HAS before the number four has hit the piano keys!

EchoMasterMind Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I tried refueling with the A-10C for the first time since 1.2.4. Has it become easier? I was barely able to refuel for longer than 5~ seconds before breaking contact a week ago, now I refueled everything in one go. It felt like I could manouver a little more without breaking the contact. Anyone know anything about this? Maybe I just became a better pilot during the past week  Also, I don't know if it's a bug, but when my tank was full, the tanker didn't say "Transfer complete" and just wanted me to stay connected. Someone more refueling-experienced should check it out. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Call911 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Had this problem awhile ago with the A10. Rudder/nose steering seems to be stuck as a/c wants to turn, have searched an cant remember how to resolve the issue. though i think it was resetting a key somewhere in controls. Any help..thanx.
Luzifer Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 You need to enable the nose wheel steering system, otherwise it doesn't do anything in response to rudder.

Kickswitch Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 MFCD's won't display on startup Had a look around the forum couldn't find the answer to this question. Question is - Why won't my MFCD's display any information when I am starting up the plane, I tried increasing brightness and toggling day/night switch but no luck Thanks in advance
sobek Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Post a track please. ApoNOOB Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 VHF AM/FM interchangeable? Hi there, on the VHF AM&FM radios is a knob (Frequency Selection Dial in the Tooltipp) with the settings "FM, AM, MAN & PRE". I guess manual&and preset are obvious but what are FM & AM for? For a second I thought both radios were interchangeable (to use as FM&AM) but that didn't work out. Can anyone clear this up for me, what are they for? :D
