I can only speak for myself on that. I have not been without issue on my cougar. I had to replace the pots, and even now the center slop is horrible. Much of the reason I cant wait for the new hotas, because center slop simply is not an issue. However despite the slop, I personally have got rid of many a joystick in the past and kept (and still use) only my cougar for 2 reasons. 1. Sturdy all metal construction. 2. It is the closest replica to the real thing over any other product targeted at the consumer market. But as I said, those are things I value, and other people desire other features and have dropped their cougar in favor of a different brand.

Much the same here.

I modded and repaired the Cougar a dozen times, the airbrakes-switch, the springs in the stick, the center play, etc. Even the small plastic ring holding the throttle-grip in place broke, so you can slide it left and right to the point that it unplugs from the poti. Of course after fixing the spiking really gave me the rest.

Yes, I have a cougar and invested more money in it, than just the original price.

And, yes, I'm gonna buy the Warthog most likely, just because I think that it eliminates all the weak points from the Cougar that led to it's new role in my home: Gather dust.

I understand you Succellus. I am one very disappointed TM cougar customer and this is the reason why I will wait and make sure this time that this is what it is promised to be this time. Im the kind of customer that doesnt go back to buying from a company that sold me a bad product. But im also a combat flight sim fan and that is bigger :D So yeah I might get this new HOTAs in the end anyway, but I will WAIT and I understand what you are saying :)

What i am impressed is people that had many issues with he cougar, shelled many money probably shelling more than the stick itself in mods, and are still jumping ahead of the train.

I want it, and I want it bad.

But I don't want to be a guiena pig. I have had the first production of other products and found out that, "This was not foreseen, we will get back to you". It was always was work out by the manufacturer, but with time and frustration.

I'll wait for the reviews, by fellow pilots.

BUT I WANT IT, NOW !!

I guess its because I never considered the Cougar to be a bad product. I still feel that it is an excellent product that is imperfect. If it had been refined a bit more it would have been perfect. The after market products are the tweaks that make it a perfect stick that will last 10 years. You wont see that in a plastic joystick.

Interesting, you use the word horrible, but also the word perfect. I am guessing you do not have all those tweaks on your own cougar?

i Have a cougar with the ubernxt mod and cub's hall sensor mod. I've had it for over 6 years, and the love, the passion, the friendship, the respect--it's all still there. Seriously, I was twisting and turning the other night and I thought, 'I'm going to miss you old friend.' I also still have the TQS from way back when.

No I do not have the uber mod. I did replace the pots. I was going to purchase one when the warthog was announced after which I decided to save for it instead. My joystick did not always have center play. It was gradual over the five years Ive had it. I still use my stick and if it wasnt for the warthog, I doubt I would ever replace it.

So i am one of the lucky one that still don t have center play? Although i had awesomes problems with crappy pots.

As for plastic, i have CH stuff that still work 15 years after buying it, used them around 7 years.

Even then, i wouldn t go back to plastic.

Thats another point that hurts, trade a fully working device for "almost" the same

As for center play, i wouldn t be surprised to see this also happens on the warthog.

Good luck to the guinea pigs, if many of you survive in good condition, i ll buy the wt. (Jk)

A few months ago I bought one of the last production run Cougar HOTAS. It had horrible center play from factory. I then sold it online and made a bit of profit as the manufacturing stopped. I knew the Warthog HOTAS was coming out and had much better features.

Did it. Got the last one, #10

It sounds like they were pretty surprise so many people are pre-ordering these things.

Expensiveness have only 2 factor in account:

1 - Quality / price relation

2 - How much you will use it and what satisfaction it will bring you..

Think of how much hours of joy they will bring to you if they endure 6 years, translate this in hours

Then take this amount and divide them in hours of movie.

You gonna be surprised on how a movies are expensive.

Life is a matter of economical trade off, not in money, but in happyness.

I just bought 3- 30" LCD's to run Warthog at 7680x1600 resolution for $4k, the Warthog HOTAS was a drop in the bucket. ;)
