metalnwood Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 big improvment since FSX Did the first guy in the first 10 seconds say 'there is something very human about the desire to score'? Must be why there are ways to earn so many points.
213 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 just gave it a little try and found it remarkably bad. the flight model is nearly nonexistent. it felt very artificial and "gamey". maybe it's the characteristics of the particular plane i was flying. the graphics are somewhat disappointing, but the performance is quite impressive, considering how awful fsx was in its early days. i have everything on max, with a few on high. smoothing makes a lot of difference. but the ground textures were fairly bad, perhaps even worse than dcs black shark, but redeemed partially by the highly varied foliage and man made structures. they need to work on their low level noise textures. ms flight...your very own amelia earhart avatar: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4721/gitl.jpg
Ells228 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I just loaded it up this morning, flew around a bit, did some missions, did some multiplayer (good to see the aircraft juming bug is still there...sigh) and am now uninstalling it. Yeah I can kinda see the point of having an "arcade" style game to get interest in flying and then moving on, but as Cichlidfan says, sim is in-cockpit which is very basic to be honest and still doesn't feel in anyway a Sim. I've got a beast of a machine and the ground textures still looked well, FSX'ish. Overall not very impressed at all.

I didn't even look at the price. O'ahu is where I do most of my flying on FSX using the JustFlight Air Haulers addon... doing transport between the islands... and with the scenery I have it looks great. There is so much on that island compared to the large island Hawai'i, that I really don't know why they chose it. In terms of airports, Honolulu/Dillingham/John Rodgers Field, are the top 3 and all located on O'ahu... then there's Pearl Harbor and all that comes with it. I'm sure if they had started with O'ahu, people might look at it a little differently than starting with Hawai'i, which is a pretty dull island. slamraamproductions Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Microsoft Flight - Launch day (i7 2600k) I created this movie in one day. My goal was to have it on Youtube before the end of February the 29th. It was a race against the clock, but luckily I had vacation today. I had only one chance to render and upload, because of the lack of time Therefor the video has some flaws. For example: Interior slow motion shots of the Icon are shocky and there are some other render issues. But again, I wanted this movie to be released on YouTube the 29th of February. I was not involved in the Beta, so this morning I got my first Flight experience. I have to say it is far better than what I expected after reading several forums. It runs a lot smoother than FSX and the flight model ( and yes I have some real life experience, though not much ;) ) feels dynamic. <==DCS Flaming Cliffs 3: Operation Grand Slam <==Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2 Tribute
213 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 why? it looks pretty mediocre. why spend the effort? not the video, of course.

Rider1 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Downloaded, played, satisfied my curiosity, uninstalled. 1 hour. I thought it looked great and ran well.. but no Track IR support. Sorry, but Track IR is a go/no go decision for me. I would describe the game as: Pilot Wings 2012. :)
cichlidfan Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) I thought it looked great and ran well.. but no Track IR support. Sorry, but Track IR is a go/no go decision for me. The fact that there is no TIR support just floors me. Somewhere I read that they intended to support pretty much every controller out there including kinect at some point. I agree about TIR. Since I started using it, not having it for flying feels like something is broken. EDIT: Perhaps MS should have bundled it with some other stuff and called it MS Windows 8 Plus Pack. They might have stood to make more.:D Edited March 1, 2012 by cichlidfan ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! WarthogSmurf Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 hmm with my mouse i fly better then with my warthog ... funny and it aint a sim , simple
andysim Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 MS said there will be no SDK. No SDK = no 3rd party addons. No PMDG/LevelD/A2A/Carenado. Nothing. Its a dead sim before its even out.
element1108 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 It's "dead" to us, but it's alive (and free) to game player base "X". X obviously because they are the unknown. When I watched the video, I could see the writing/notes phase needing to emphasize "you can play this with a mouse"...hinting to the fact you don't need an "expensive joystick" (I picked my first one up for $12 18 years ago and it changed how I flew early flight sims for the better. Anyway I'm not going to (outside my passive aggressive attitude on this title) whole heartidly dump all over this title. It's clearly not for the majority audience who frequent these forums (or who enjoy flight SIMS). Contrary to what the video says, we LIKE doing more than just flying around and looking at things/completing arcade type challenges etc. If I were 9 though I would eat this title up. FREE?!?!?! GET OUT!!! Look at those graphics. I would tire of it eventually and probably wouldn't pony up any additional allowance cash for "add ons"...but whatever. One last thing, they're probably not SDK'ing this because they saw all that potential money go to third party developers and not directly to MS when dealing with additional scenery, planes etc. This time they're going to keep their claws on the golden goose. Although it's more of a bronze goose, because it's a "sim light" product ;).

Although it's more of a bronze goose, because it's a "sim light" product ;). The problem is that a)they won't attract the audience that shelled out big time for the FSX add ons and b) Microsoft is nowhere near having the know how to produce anything coming close to the quality of some of the better FSX add ons. I'm still curious to see how this will fare, although i'm off that train since FS9. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

I'm still curious to see how this will fare, although i'm off that train since FS9. Frankly I don't think they're out to make high fidelity add ons, just more scenery, nicely 3D modeled planes and challengaes/missions, but not to the fidelity depth of fsx's best developers. Nobody in ms flight market will spend $59 on an airframe, maybe some, but not the profitable margin vs development time required. Nothing about this title is retrospective of the current MSFS series so I can't imagine they're banking on that market to dish out. Ultimately I think (like so many things these days) this idea was focused grouped to hell, researched from the ground up on spending paterns of the casual, modern gamer. I don't see much in the way of flight sim enthusiast in the mix here. This is probably a title that would come with the next gen Xbox, with dlc purchases to follow so people can fly from their couch with wireless controller. (lack of fidelity reduces processor so would make it ideal for a console). Hollywood is guilty of this as well, they can sell stars and action sequences over a profound story any day of the year. Who knows, all I know (and no disrespect to those who like this title or will download it because is free) I have no intention of downloading it anytime soon/ever. Its not offerering anything that interests me and my limited sim time is better spent in the ka, SU or a-10 (and eventual 51 and impossible to learn fast mover). :joystick: I would be curious and open however to individual forum members honest opinions of he ame. What they like and dislike etc. My opinion is not written in stone by any means.
