Loz Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) Very definitely worth it, I would say. Unlike some others, I've had my Cougar since it was first released and had no problems at all, with it. Considering how long ago that was, then the value for money with that, was immense. Don't see that the Warthog will not be a similar if not better investment to my Flight Simming for another 10 or more years. Gotta get the MFDs too for the complete set. (Shame they aren't built to the same standards though) ps. Love the little mechanical widget to get rid of the Reheat Detent in the Throttle. Fingers crossed that TM, notice they are missing an opptunity by not updating or increasing build quality of the MFD's. OK I know we are all going to be broke after getting the Warthog, But im sure we would all melt another credit card if TM upgraded these. SO SO much potential. OK Yes Im Dreaming, BUT Now got a full Hotas for A10 so you see dreams Do sometimes come true ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Fighter pilots make movies, Attack pilots make history, Helicopter pilots make heros. :pilotfly: Corsair 570x Crystal Case, Intel 8700K O/clocked to 4.8ghz, 32GB Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHZ Ram, 2 x 1TB M2 drives, 2 x 4TB Hard Drives, Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW, Maximus x Hero MB, H150i Cooler, 6 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans And a bloody awful Pilot
Renato71 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 This one is way too much for my budget, and I seriously doubt that it can improve anybodys flying skill. Like having a Stradivari - it does not guarantee nothing in unskilled hands, then the plain noise. I think that Kamov could make more money selling their version of HOTAS the selling real copters. And the prices would be much, much lower. Same goes for Suhoi and MiG. I only hope that someone in Russina or China will get an idea to make cheaper versions hotas, say using real stick from scrapped fighters. The hours I spend in any sim, it will make any hotas last for decades. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Pilotasso Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 It wont increase your skill but for me for example my current setup is a hindrance. Desperately need a new HOTAS for what I need to have at my fingertips. .
power5 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 What is the purpose of the throttle being pulled up to go all the way forward or back? How will that be handled for non TMWH hotas systems? I love the actual switches on the Throttle though. Does the TMWH not come with pedals? if not, WOW that is an expensive system. I can not understand French, but is this thing FFB? Flamin_Squirrel Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 What is the purpose of the throttle being pulled up to go all the way forward or back? How will that be handled for non TMWH hotas systems? I love the actual switches on the Throttle though. Does the TMWH not come with pedals? if not, WOW that is an expensive system. I can not understand French, but is this thing FFB? They're detents. The one at the back is to prevent you from accidently starting/stopping the engine. The one at the front is to stop you from unintentionally using afterburner. The A-10C doesn't have afterburner, but it's there for other aircraft if you want to use it.
Avilator Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 On the A-10, there is a detent at the lower limit of travel. Lifting the throttle up and over the detent opens or closes the fuel valve, depending on which way you move it. This is to prevent shutting down the engines without intending to while selecting idle. The detent at the upper end of the range is for afterburners, which of course, the A-10 does not have. That one is there so you can use it with other planes. He demonstrated how to remove the upper detent, which is how it's configured in the A-10. No pedals and no FFB in this system. Yes it is very expensive! EDIT: Damn! I type too much. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" blaster454 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 What do you think about the plastic insert that is used to control whether there is an AB detent? When it's set up for an aircraft with AB, I wonder if moving the throttle to full military power (against the stop) eventually will cause wear or a failure? Did it look like that small plastic piece had a metal insert in it? topdog Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Even if the detent wears out, the fact it's removable and not a molded part of the chassis means replacement with a fresh shiny one (direct from TM if not DIY'd, I believe they are quite good at mailing out replacement parts like that) shouldn't be any issue. power5 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Wow. No FFB and no pedals??? I love the mechanical switches and that it lights up. I also like the plate the stick sits on opposed to typical big plastic bases. But for the price, I can not imagine why it has no ffb or pedals. Does it come with a copy of DCSWH I hope? I will just remain happy with my g940 I guess. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
Pilotasso Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 FFB should have no place in a high fidelity HOTAS. I have one with FFB and I regreted it. .
Eddie Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 But for the price, I can not imagine why it has no ffb or pedals. No FFB because many people dont want it and would avoid the product if it was there, it's at wost nothing more than a gimmick and at best just something to go wrong. As for pedals, a really good set comparable in quality to the hotas will cost nearly the same price (simpeds for example) and many people want the choice of what pedals to buy. The logitech setup is fine for beginners and those on a budget, but many of us want a lot more.
Renato71 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I bet you that the Warthog HOTAS is made in China. Virtually everything is made in China these days. Like that lasers and scopes and bunch of PC tidbits - I had both "original" and "copy" and you can actually see the same machining marks on both. Yeah, someone should talk those smart Chinese into making hotas stuff. Succellus Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) YET.... OK I know we are all going to be broke after getting the Warthog, Um broke after ? What abouut.. Before ? The wartogh have a flaw compared to the Cougar, you can t elongate the handle. As i'm ain t hyped anymore with anything any of those company release, i ll wait to see how it wear off. The way it works in the video seem quite weird. Around a ball ? real thing ? not.... I really wonder how a wrist will handle it on long period, too much travel for it to seem good. I wonder why gost is keepinf the hand in the base to fix when he demonstrate Idle and PC triggers... That ain t much promising in a combat situation. But the rest looks indeed quite good. leafer Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I watched a demo vid somewhere and the throttle, when moved, wobbled flimsily. Not that I wouldn't buy it if I could but just sayin'. Anywiggle, I'd be happy with my Suncom F-15 Talon soon enough... :D ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
