One week with beta 3 -verdict

Never been so excited since Jane`s F-15

Awesome graphics. Incredible detailed aircraft.

High res 16:9 with no more coin sized pixel when zoomed in.

Runs great with no stutter in general.

Enough stuff to keep you occupied (learn and hone your skills) for months and probably keep you learning until gold release.

Jawdropping complex - but still seems to be simulated in detail.

Great flight sim as it is -just flying around and making holes in the sky.

Perfect dynamics. Just try to taxi off tarmac into the dirt with nosewheel and up again. Watch tire struggle and skidding to get back.

Frustration:

None of the Shooting Gallery, target practice missions load. Have to practice bombing buildings in a free fly scenario - or jump into the battle heat.

Some important training missions does not load.

Training missions with bugs.

Missing training mission gives holes in knowledge and leads to frustration that exceeds pleasure of learning in some areas.

Some places with heavy stutter.

Final:

To enjoy this A10 beta in all its glory, with all its systems go - you must have more than average knowledge of aircraft/weapon/avionics. If you gave up Black Shark or find Lock On or M$ flightsim difficult, this beta is not for you, wait for final edition with all the training running. If you think you can jump in to page 500 and read Combat Preparation :book:a long weekend and then takeoff for some casual bomb drop - you will certainly have a nasty surprise. They will be stuck on the rails.:joystick:

Shooting Gallery is on the Nevada map, just delete it, Nevada won't be back for a while.

 

There are new training missions available, which still have some bugs but are greatly improved.

Which training missions are you refering to. I've been able to load all of them up just fine. I know in Beta 2 the Landing was inop but with beta 3 I've had all missions operational.

They all have voice overs now and other bugs will likely have been fixed.

My biggest hope for Beta 4 is much improved stability. Beta 3 is for me very frustrating. Only one in about ten missions goes without a crash. If not I think I shall be reverting to flying the shark until stability improves.

 

EDIT: don't get me wrong I love where this sim is going, it is just so frustrating to immersed in the mission suddenly to be unceremoniously dumped back to the desktop.

I hav played this game for about a month now and can say I have only ever had it crash on me once and that was when i was in MP online.

 

A few places it does stutter expecially when flying slow over the coast and you look at the see and the buildings on the coast.

 

All in all it is very playable for me.

 

Some of the training missions the guy tells you to do something but there is no visual marker to show where the button switch is (this was hard at first to find but after a while you find the button/switch and can move forward)

Everything in the game is maxed out and runs at about 30 to 90 FPS

Online or offline, mine CTDs about 15% of the time.

I also have alot of CTDs. 1/4 times I wont finish the mission because of a CTD. Some missions seem more stable than others. Some wont CTD at all, some every time. Offline.

Missions never worked well for me, most of the time my frame rates drop WAY below playable and that just blows the whole mission for me. I wouldn't expect much from the mission experience in BETA's, it's too early for that.

 

What the beta is good for is general familiarization. Button pushing/weapons deployment, flight envelope familiarization. I know that can get "old" fast for some people, but try to simplify, for me at least I never experience CTD's when inside simple, mission edited flights.

 

Not all weapons processes are spot on either, but the gist is there and in a way, once the final release comes hopefully delivering weapons to the target will ALMOST be second nature.

 

I still get a kick of starting up the A-10C....that for some reason hasn't gotten old at all. Landings and takeoffs are always a kick, but I'm a sucker for that aspect of flight ;).

I have a 95% CTD when doing a "Cold Start" - started since Beta2/3... If I start from the Runway - all is well.

Finally got my hands on the beta as well. Love it. Totally. It lived to the expectations. Knowing that many things are still WIP, it is already a fantastic sim.

 

When it takes ~3 hours to learn how to make the start-up, basic handling and employ weapons on a very high-level this really tells something to me.

That is the retail price. You are pre-ordering the retail version.

 

And please do not tell me that you think it's expensive - On par with new release games that retail from £40 upwards.
