Gonzo01 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) I recently received my Saitek Combat Rudder pedals and decided to try them out with DCS A-10C. I have to admit I was a little reluctant, due to past experience with Saitek software. But I will say I am very happy with them. Construction quality looks spot-on and the installation went reasonably well. Best advise is do not install the drivers if your using Windows 7 64 bit, DCS recognized them without there driver and software installed. I only mention this because I had to remove their software in order to get them to work correctly. DCS lets you program and fine tune them inside of A-10C. Took me a little while to get the brakes tuned, but all and all they feel great. I have to say they are the best rudder pedals I have own to date. Nice work Saitek Edited January 16, 2011 by Gonzo01
Slammin Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I am so tempted! Everything I hear on these is the same and I am so worried that I am going to break the spring in my RCS the next time I try a hard left rudder. I've had these since they first came out and am only on my second spring but this spring isn't quite as strong as the original and because I added some washers to it to smooth out the action some, they don't have a hard stop when applying full left deflection. I'm afraid that one day I will get carried away and push it too far. Hasn't happened in the 10 years I've had this spring in them, but... Really, I'm just trying to justify some shiny new rudders :-) Abit IN9 32x MAX- Kentsfield QX6700 @3520 1.5 vcore watercooled D-Tek Fuzion/PA-160/MCR120/2x MCP655 2x2GB G-Skill 1066 5-5-5-15 2T@1.9vdimm 2x EVGA 580GTX 1.5GB SLI 2x 74GB Sata Raptor Raid0 2x 320GB Hitachi Sata II X-FI Elite Pro Dell U3011 Lian Li V2100B Corsair HX1000

TwoLate Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I have the old Saitek rudder pedals. How is the returning to center? Did the pedals feel right or comfortable? How about spiking? More on the egornomics if you please. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SmokeyTheLung Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I can't speak for the op, but I find the new rudders to be quite ergonomic. (they are large, well suited to a tall person with large feet). I don't have a very objective opinion here (my last set of rudder pedals was circa 1998...) but I've found the return to center to be just fine. Its taken me a little effort to get used to but with the adjustable tension I think I'll be able to find a setting that is perfect. All in all I'm very happy with my new toy, they make a huge difference in the sim System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

Wolf Rider Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 looks like Saitek has used the existing pedals pro base, moved the power LED and stuck the newer pedals in. How do the pedals initiate in the controller settings? I find when the settings controller is first opened (I have the Pro rudder) has the pedals l/r toe brakes at 50/ 50, then when first moved the controller reports the l/r toe brakes@ 0 in the little window. ie the red indicator drops from 50% down to 0% City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." skypirate Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm going to order a set this weekend when I get paid Friday. Hmmm.. shall I throw the dice or just follow your example?... Yet, I kinda can't justify trowing my old Saitek rudder pedals (which btw are perfectly fine), and go for the new rudder pedals based on the old model but with new-aluminumy-nice-sexy-pedals-looky features.... Or can I?... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!

Or can I?... My dilemma exactly :) Though I notice that these are different considering the feet position - on the old ones you put your whole feet on the pedals, but on the new ones, the heels rest on the base and you push the pedals not very unlike in a car, for example. I think I'd prefer the 2nd option as I'd feel more relaxed that way, as I feel a bit constrained with my feet firmly in these old Saitek pedals. i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg. CrashEd Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Do the pro flight combat rudder pedals have hall effect sensors as opposed to pots?
Succellus Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Wow thats a who want to be a millionaire question ain t it ? My answer would be POTS after checking the site nothing related to hall. But why the question your sim ped are gameport ? HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. CrashEd Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Wow thats a who want to be a millionaire question ain t it ? It certainly is, and a deal-breaker for me. I no longer use the Simpeds, although there is nothing wrong with them other than not having independent toe breaks and the gameport interface. However, they can still be used via the Cougar base... My Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals spike like crazy. Pots are a thing of the past for me. My answer would be POTS after checking the site nothing related to hall. My guess would also be "pots", otherwise they would be singing and dancing about it on the website ;)
