This map initially started as a 3rd party effort that we hoped to include in A-10C as the location for all training missions. However, due to a number of reasons, that effort stalled and eventually our Minsk team had to take over the project in order for it to get it done (luckybob is still involved and assisting), with a high level of quality, and using the updated terrain/DX11 engine (such as use of clip maps).

 

When released, we see the map as the center for US aircraft training missions, as well as Red Flag and Green Flag missions. We think it would be fun/interesting to first learn the aircraft in the US and conduct exercises before taking on true combat missions in the Black Sea map.

 

Thanks Wags!!! I think the logic behind Nellis is sound and I don't know many who aren't looking forward to it. I also think many see Nellis as it was in Beta 3, which upon release I'm sure will blow that away!

Nevada's definitely on my list when it's out. (I'll have A-10 by then hopefully) I'll probably still have learning to do so doing it at an actual training base is good to me. The screenshots I've seen look really good.

Hi Paul, in many ways, Nevada has been redone from scratch since that beta. For example, the use of clip maps has allowed us to use much higher res terrain textures than the old beta.

 

Once I get the okay from the higher ups, I will try to post some new images.

IIRC clipmaps require textures to be loaded from Disk into system memory then transfered to GPU texture memory. Could well be a few who will suffer frame rate loss from disk access and CPU system memory caching. Unless of course DX11 takes care of all of this by using low utilisation cores/threads?

 

Either way, I have an eye out for upcoming SSDs. Looking forward to more realistic hiDef terrain thats for sure.

Matt great news on the upcoming Nevada maps. Will this new DX11 engine be incorperated into the current Black Sea maps and DCS Black Shark?

Any idea if they would put a Afganistan map? That would be wicked. Russians fought there and now the Americans. This map would make the most logical sence to have for realisic combat operations. Just my 2 cents
