Still no sign of Nevada terrain, have been with this sim since beta release, after a year or two I went mad and purchased both HOTAS and rudder pedals - would love a change of terrain - is there any information about rough release times or has it been put on a back burner? Please dont see this as a whinge as I'll stay with this sim regardless but the Nevada terrain we had in one of the early betas was fantastic.

Cheers

You should check you're calendar again, the A-10C beta was released in October last year, so it has'nt even been a year yet :P

As for the rest of your questions, read the thread.

I suppose I'll have to drink some Guinness now!

:puke:

If so, are we to suspend belief and pretend it is the ME, or will it presume a conflict on US soil?
Oh god, not this again.

Considering no American forces have ever even been deployed to Georgia yet you're content to shoot Russians by flying out of an airbase there, I don't see how shooting Russians in Nevada is any different. In one theater, there's Russians in real life yet zero American forces. In the other theater, there's American forces in real life, but zero Russian forces.

So who gives a crap?

You are right, it is not explicit, and anything could change for any reason, but it is in spatial order, as with these other posts below.

Yes, Ka-50 is current testing focus along with next A-10C patch.

Current the team is mostly focused on the Black Shark update, the next A-10C patch, the Nevada terrain, and our next DCS aircraft.

The fact that 1109 came out before DCS:Next is a helpful indicator that the consistent spatial placement does(likely) indicate either chronology or priority. As long as we are being pessimistic though, there is no guarantee that Blackshark will be able to handle DX11 or the new terrain engine, so I won't be too disappointed if Nevada is hog-only. I would assume the Ka-50 will get Tbilisi though.

Models are still made in 3ds max so its kinda still a requirement

Of course, but I was asking about terrain itself. You've developed some kind of editor for new maps terrain, or is it simple (or not so simple) mesh made in 3ds max?

I don't know people are so interested in Nevada. I'd rather Afghanistan and Iraq. I mean seriously if we want to fly and fight the A-10 in its' natural habitat, puttering around the Nellis range like a bunch of boots is not what I call interesting. Further, if you want a stateside A-10 training environment, then you want Davis-Monthan AFB (Tucson) KFHU (Sierra Vista - since they're ALWAYS eating up our pattern from 0900-1100 and 1300-1600 Monday through Friday) and the Barry Goldwater Range aka Ruby and Sells MOA as well as Tombstone MOA and the rest of the restricted airspace down here. Que aburrido senor.

I have to agree with you,I do not understand what logic to create an area that is not A combat zone???

TO Spend so much resources and time ON area which should be friendly,Go figure.I'm usually not a negative person But I'm looking for logic And I can not find.Do not get ME wrong You bring up an Amazing photos/

Some Question... ¿What imagery resolution can be see in future nevada map? I see that resolution only center on Shadow and visual effects, but the mesh resolution has a bit very low. Otherwise that images has a alpha / beta stage.

For example I post old Flight Resolution mesh photos.

25 meter mesh

mesh25m.jpg

5 meter mesh

mesh5m.jpg

¿What mesh resolution give to the future Nevada map?

Dynamic terrain shadows are a great leap forward, that was one of only two things the MSF$ terrain engine still did better than DCS after all those years (the other one, of course, is the very low mesh resolution, as the people above me are so correctly pointing out).

Nevertheless, a big step in the right direction for an already excellent engine. Now improve that mesh, fix the tree shadows from 1.0.8 and give us RoF-style 3D trees and IMHO the DCS terrain engine will be the best in any flight sim, in every respect - full stop. Pretty impressive!

I totally agree. I think its great, and very badly needed to have new terrain, but continental US is certainly not what i want. Not to take anything away from the folk making it. But a terrain where only training can be done in a realistic scenario is pretty disappointing considering we have had the same combat terrain for so may years now. Just gonna have to pretend its not Nevada i suppose. Considering i'll be getting it for free as a beta user i'm not complaining.. just wish it had been a realistic combat environment.

Yeah, Red Flag will be so totally boring and worthless. :D

Well.... not really understanding what Red Flag is about or how it will be implemented in DCS I don't understand what Nevada will add apart from the terrain itself.

Also I can suspend belief enough to use Nevada as all the current war zones we all want to fly in;)

Compare flight hours of A-10C's in combat zones, and training zones. You'll find that they fly a lot more in regular training grounds than combat - an the Nellis area is one such training ground.

I actually do not understand why it would be hard to see why the place where Red Flag happens would be hard to motivate including in a combat simulator... :P

An area that should be friendly? Again, have you heard about Red Flag? One of the largest recurring air combat exercises on the planet, involving air forces from the entire world and pretty much all manufacturers? Place a guess where it happens and you'll see why this place is very very relevant. ;)

It's a lot more realistic to have A-10s flying in Georgia shooting at the Russian Army. Even though none of that has ever happened.

Would you prefer Afghanistan, where you realistically just fly around shooting at infantry who can't even fight back? Because you do realize the moment you put Russian tanks in it it's ridiculous and "disappointing", because it's completely fictitious again... right?

I agree it is realistic to be flying training missions. Most pilots never fly in a combat environment. But this is a game...that i play for my enjoyment. Personally i have zero interest in flying training missions. I have never loaded my A10 with training ordinance and i never will.

I agree that 'Stan with Russian tanks would be no better. But a new combat environment with an appropriate OPFOR would be my wish, not Nevada.

I'd be happier with a fictional location with a fictional OPFOR, better yet would be a Iran/North Korea scenario.... training exercises simply has no appeal to me.

But what OPFOR can you realistically have be on the Nevada map?

Guys, it's what's in the pipeline, no amount of nagging is gonna make 'Stan out of Nevada. ;)

Hopefully they'll be able to release new terrain tools soon, so 3rd parties can have a try at making more theaters.

Excuse me, there was me thinking this was a discussion forum. Its called expressing ones opinion, not 'nagging'. I stated my opinion once and responded to a quote once.

Allow people to express themselves, gez.

As i said earlier its great to have a new terrain, i just wish it was a combat environment. Don't like differing opinions, tough.

I don't get why Nevada cannot be a combat environment. People pretend that NATO has invaded Georgia, why not pretend that Russia has invaded the US? Or pretend that this isn't Nevada, for that matter. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway, if it wasn't for Vegas. :)
