ED Team NineLine Posted September 13, 2013 ED Team Posted September 13, 2013 There is one: CryEngine from CryTek. Of course, but others compare other engines, like Arma3 and Frostbite, it was a more generalized comment, not completely directed at you. Not now, yes. When EDGE is released we however will have a basis for comparison and it is indeed my hope that when such time arrives that we can compare and seek answers in a constructive, meaningful manner rather than hiding behind respective boulders throwing clay at the opposing faction, calling oranges apples and apples oranges :D When EDGE comes out I am ok with discussing suggestions to make it better for our needs here, if it needs it, but until someone is doing a high fidelity sim with maps the size of what we are expecting in DCS World and the amount of combat being simulated throughout that map, the comparison remains apples and oranges IMHO. I must be too easy going because the level of detail of the screenshots has me really pumped up, yes it looks like they dont have much life in them yet, but they look like a screen shot of an aircraft model in the model viewer or in 3D studio, those still get me excited even though they dont have all the fancy effects and life plugged into them. Cornbread Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I for one think the Nevada screens look great; I am looking forward to more in the very near future. Wags, please don't let the naysayers wreck it for the rest of us; I usually just scroll past their posts anyway. Thanks! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

flanker1 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 The Georgian map will continue to work, but not be rebuilt or benefit from the improvements of EDGE. ok, thank you very much for the quick answer and the guarantee. means that all new stuff will be compatible with old georgian map "engine" and upcoming edge? will there be a european edge theater? will improvements / updates for the old engine stop when edge is coming?
Teknetinium Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) The Georgian map will continue to work, but not be rebuilt or benefit from the improvements of EDGE. That Is sad since many of us don't want to be transferred to Nevada. I would rather see the existing area grow to Turkey and so on. ED Team NineLine Posted September 13, 2013 ED Team Posted September 13, 2013 I dont know what new maps are coming, and assume the old engine will cease to exist... the old map will work with the new engine. ok, thank you very much for the quick answer and the guarantee. means that all new stuff will be compatible with old georgian map "engine" and upcoming edge? will there be a european edge theater? will improvements / updates for the old engine stop when edge is coming? Teknetinium Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) I am sure Nevada wont be the only map... and you can stay in Georgia if Nevada is that disappointing to you. Any new maps are more than welcome, Since we already have a region it would be logical to build on it as ED did before by adding more of Georgia. Some parts of Turkey close to the Black sea would cover everything a simulated war scenario needs. We could have two carrier groups on each side of the Black Sea. ED Team NineLine Posted September 13, 2013 ED Team Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) The issue is you cant add on to the current map and have it benefit from edge, you would have to rebuild Georgia then add on what you wanted to add, if you see what I mean. Not to say someone wont do it, just right now ED doesnt seem to have any plans to. Any new maps are more than welcome, Since we already have a region it would be logical to build on it as they did before by adding more of Georgia. I opinion is that some parts of Turkey close to the Black sea would cover everything you need in a simulated war scenario. VincentLaw Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 but maybe we see a french aircraft carrier in the Golfe de Calvi and not a russian ship (too far on that screenie) If I had to guess, I would say Clemenceau. Images in the left side in descending order are EDGE Carrier, Charles de Gaulle, Kuznetsov, Carl Vinson, Clemenceau Class. My lines and angles are not perfect, but you can see that Kuznetsov and Vinson definitely have their bridges too far astern, and the CdG bridge is too far forward. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

EtherealN Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Now we are comparing a Granny Smith apple (EDGE) to a Golden Delicious apple (CryEngine) and unless there is evidence that disproves the allegation that the CryEngine can indeed cater for the viewing distance needed by DCS then the comparison suddenly becomes valid. Is there? :) You just reversed burden of proof. You can find it in your own post, I'll highlight: "unless there is evidence that disproves the allegation" (Though it should be "assertion". :P ) You are saying that an "allegation" will stand by default unless proven false. Only way to prove it false is to do it. So... Cryengine can do it by default, and the only way to change this perception is to make someone actually implement this on cryengine? Shouldn't it be the reverse; that Cryengine will have proven it's capability of doing this when someone actually does it. I can allege that I can run 100 meters faster than Usain Bolt; the only way to make this not so is if you can bribe me into running 100 meters on your stopwatch. Which I won't do. So... yeah, please consider me the fastest man in the world. :) As you can see, that kind of argument doesn't work, so let's please keep that out of this. You can always open a different thread in Other Sim News or something when some other product or engine shows something you feel is worth discussing. EtherealN Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 How come? Would the unrealistic replies/illogical comparison shots that some people are giving offend ED or some thing?
