DCS World 2.0 and New Maps Discussion Thread

I'm not 100% Sure,

But For the people pushing for the Terrain Editor from the RRG Kickstarter Backing,

I do remember some where that it was stated to have Exporting turned off.

As in, you can edit the terrain, and submit the data to RRG to Export.

If you want to develop a Full Blown separate terrain, you may need more than just the Terrain Editor, or a different version.

But I also hope that at some later point, the SDK will become available to all. The massive amount of content available for other simulators due to the availability of the free tools is testament to what a community can do. Of course there is a lot of junk in the freeware area, but there are many gems that I wouldn't want to miss.

I also remember that ED said something about allowing 3rd parties to do a lot more than just aircraft. Looking forward to this becoming a reality...

Lets Look at this for a Second, the 2 largest 3rd Party Libraries for Flight sims belong to MS and Thirdwire:

MS FS2002,2004,FSX:

GMAX, Terrain Editing Software, FSDS, Max Plugin

GMAX Is Free, Terrain Software I dont remember, FSDS is not free, Max Plugin Requires MAX (which isnt free),

GMAX was Discontinued 8-9 Years ago, leaving only FSDS and 3D Studio MAX for Object and Scenery Creation/Editing.

Thirdwire SFP1, WoV, WoE, WoI / SF2 Series:

MAX Exporter for 3d, Terrain/Map Builders Available are all 3rd Party Written, and took a few years after release to be written.

Again MAX isnt free.

Thirdwire's original Terrain Engine Uses HFD with Texture Tiles and INI Files to place objects

ThirdWire's new engine (SF2:NA) Uses 3D Exported Tiles from Max and INI Files to Position them and place objects.

So other than GMAX, where are these free SDKs you speak of?

Yeah, I honestly hope it will be a paid SDK, I would prefer that to a free one and a mass of hacked terrains get released, I would also prefer that to a 3rd Party agreement required for tools as well so very few people have access.

Sell the SDK/tools for 50 bucks and those that want to make maps and are serious about it will buy it.

However the ability to compile the final map and to let tanks drive or planes fly over the new landscape will not be released out. So, many features that relate to the terrain's implementation within the game will not be a part of the SDK.

Thanks, saves us from 20 different renditions of "WaterWorld" and "DesertWorld" Terrains.

Btw, though I don't know what it's limitations are, P3D includes the SDK if you buy a Pro license.

An updated SDK including many requested features and a new iSimObject API that allows developers full control over their SimObjects.

An all new SimObject API allowing developers to implement their own flight, aerodynamics and physics models in their simulations.

A new custom post-process system which allows developers to write custom effects to be applied to the rendered image to further customize how Prepar3D’s image is generated.

A whole host of other additions to SimConnect, the gauges and panels systems, and the modeling SDK. Please see the SDK for additional details.

I wish for environmental views to be exported trough the network just like instruments are at the moment.

I mean like 6-10 PCs rendering a piece of the environment, not instruments, just a piece of the external view, through the network... then we will be talking.. NASA simulation staff ;)

Which is also not free, and goes back to the original point and question, "what free SDKs?" was mhe referring too?

As for Networked Terrain Rendering, You're joking right?,

Generally speaking, Out of 50,000 DCS Users, 10 People could prolly use such a feature.

it'd be a waste of Time/Money to develop software that complex for nearly no one using it.

Oh come on, there are probably at least 7 people with six or more PCs available and waiting for this feature. :megalol:

I know that our dear Nate is a tester and he has access to stuff that we can only dream about, but I was asking about those three pics, about the little details which told him that those are from the current TFCSE...

What Nate said, the last 3 are not the new renderer.

I am inclined to agree with Suchacz on the Su-33 image. The sky coloration near the horizon is distinctly different from any other DCS images I can find. (And distinctly similar to the first EDGE image.)

That pic is too old to be made with EDGE.

March 7, 2014, too old? If you have a source of it older than that, I'll change my opinion. Maybe you are thinking of this picture though? Note the difference in the horizon coloration between these two and the cockpit one.

so, please tell us why the first two are from the new renderer - looks more visibility range and different shaders only to me

thank you

I think NDA might restrict us going into detail about what is in the screenshots (unless it has been announced by Wags). Remember this is still a WIP in Testing.... Not to mention, EDGE on the old map...
